Their new privacy policy reports new software and hardware and they're playing with they're building an Alexa skill so I'm guessing it'll be like the Echo.
swfarrington to LOL_is_stupid
5 Sep 17#26
That's true. If that is the case I think I'll stick with a speaker rather than a listener
I've not bought any of the Alexa-enabled gear. Recently when working at a client address and finding their Dot devices interrupting mid conversation, it really put me off getting one for my own home. Although if the security services want to listen in to me telling the cat that it's not time for more food, it's their time they're wasting :joy:

I'm expecting updated Play 1 (with 2nd gen Play 5 styling) with built in microphone for Alexa integration.
The_Hoff to knack
6 Sep 17#37
Play 1 doesn't need a refresh. It's the Play 3 that's by far the oldest design now.
I heard the Play 1 features a mic alright but is disabled at present, we'll see.
If anybody is questioning a SUB, of you have the means, BUY IT.
knack to The_Hoff
6 Sep 17#38
Agree it doesn't need a refresh - I think it still looks good even though the styling is based on the original Play 5. My expectation is based on a comment I read elsewhere from someone who is beta testing new hardware.
I do wonder about the Play 3, can't imagine it's selling nearly as well as the 1/5 and design wise it looks very old.
The Play 5 that has a disabled mic, don't think there's one in the Play 1.
tank86
5 Sep 17#18
Looks like the Play 1 is £180 @ Amazon & Currys, so with 15% off this it's a £153 so decent price. Still more than I paid when I originally bought it last year though!
Damn didn't realise they had raised the prices so much. Bought two play 1s for 260 which included 50£ of Apple vouchers (which I sold on) in Ja.
I have these and a couple of play 3s, but a question, won't sonos sales be hit now considering other alternatives i.e. Amazon echo?
I do wonder how long the premium price will hold with very popular alternatives which probably has less soundquality but more functionality

Literally bought a refurbished PlayBar over the weekend for £529, managed to get some discount on. Using the 5x Nectar points and using some of my nectar points on the card. Getting it down to £506! With 12 months warranty However a brand new one with the discount from John Lewis (2 years warranty!) £560! :disappointed:
Sure mine is a bargain, but could have got a new one with more warranty

Alexa also does multi room this week I read and sonos won't do dnla bluetooth or USB input that some other vendors offer . It's a competitive sector . I think sonos were also privately owned and there is pressure to go public.

I've got a Play 3 in the study, Play 1 in the kitchen and Play 1 in daughter's room. Want to buy something for the living room and did consider a Play 5 before but think I was advised to get two Play 1s instead.

I bought one shortly after they were released, brilliant when paired with 2 Play 1s for surround. In the terms and conditions it states :
'Discount Codes are available for one-time use only and cannot be combined with any other discount or promotion'
Products purchased as part of another promotion are specifically excluded from this promotion.
So if say Curry's are doing the play 5 @ £449 (Already a discount of £50) then the 15% discount code is probably not valid.
I read the same thing on the Sonos forums, i would like to be wrong though.

Hi, No, you can only use the code online at time of purchase on the sonos website direct. If you buy from an authorised dealer such as Richer Sounds then you have to pay full price at checkout then go to the website in your email, enter the discount code, upload a copy of your receipt and add bank details etc. They then say (if i recall) it could take up to 30 days to pay the money into your nominated account but they will keep you up to date by email/text.

So to clarify what you said, you have to pay the full price..so if it's a play 5 and the full price is £499 but Richer Sounds are doing it for £449 you have to pay £499 to be able to use the code??
When i emailed Sonos that's the way they told me it has to be done.. IE pay £499, but when i phoned them the rep told me that it was still ok at £449, although to be honest he sounded unsure.....totally confused.

ordered a playbase from sonos last week. got an email on the 7th to say it had shipped. No sign of it by the 11th, checked with the courier (DHL) who said they hadn't received it from the supplier yet.
contacted sonos, who said it must be a problem at the courier end, they well check and get back to me.
heard nothing back by today (12th), so rung them again. This time they tell me they are struggling with demand, mine has not been shipped, and they have no idea when it will be shipped.
I asked them why they had emailed me 5 days ago saying it had been shipped, they say that just means it has completed a certain stage at the warehouse, not that it has actually been shipped!
I asked to cancel my order, and was told this is not possible as it has "technically" shipped.
