Bought this amp to replace my Onkyo 705, and despite making many tweaks to the audio set up it just doesn't give me the same detail or sub response to my 10 year old Onkyo 705, which shocks me a little.

I think it's time to order this and replace my 2006 Onkyo 705 receiver!

Have owned the Denon 2300 for a couple of years now with a 7.1 setup including Atmos. It is awesome and highly recommended for just a little more £

I've currently got an old Samsung HT-C5900 5.1 amp and speaker package. I'm assuming I'd need to replace all of the speakers I currently have as they're rated 3 ohms? Really tempted to buy this amp at this price but only have £100-200 for replacement speakers. Any suggestions on what to go with?

Unfortunately, yes you will need to replace the lot. I’d say that maybe these would be a good choice at that price range. richersounds.com/pro…blk
Leaves you with a bit of change to put towards speaker wire too if they don’t come in the box.
I have personally heard the Denon speakers myself and they definitely represent good value for money in a starter set. All three will be an improvement on your Samsung system.

I understand that Denon avrx2300w is a well reviewed amp.. lots of positive feedbacks, but is this yamaha better?

For the price its worth buying. The speakers you buy are going to determine how good it sounds. Atmos and DTS X are not essential if money is not a problem go for the Denon

Bah, if only it has 2 HDMI out ports

How does the sony mentioned above and this YAMAHA compare to DENON AVRX2300W?
That amp doesn’t have Atmos or DTS:X support though which I’d say makes this the better buy. The downside is that this has less HDMI inputs on it

The Denon 2300 is fantastic, I'd highly recommend it.

HDR pass-through also missing which was the big deal breaker for me. The Denon is great value at current prices. The main advantage the Yamaha has is the web/multiroom connectivity and it's shallower (if your cabinet, like mine, limits your options)

Is there any disadvantage of using this with a 5.1 speaker setup?

No none at all. It just means in the future you can add more speakers/sub if you wanted to.

I haven't heard this model but the X2300W is much more feature packed and sounds good!
