I'd recommend asking them. To clarify what this means. For most imported items, customs duties are low or non existent, it is the VAT that causes a problem. Check when they say 'customs taxes' they will include any local VAT payable on import

I'd say good. If it used a proprietary battery you may have issues getting a replacement, as it is made out of common ones there is a high chance you can just remove dead cells and replace them as needed. I have these batteries in my camping torches among other things, they seem to be a new standard for high drain items (obviously a 250w scooter takes more of them than my torch does!)

Why is this not road legal? I have seen several people using similar sized manual scooters in London. Who will know this is powered? Its also got cruise control, so no need to exceed the speed.
Read it, was wondering disability vehicles being driven on footpaths dont need a license, do they?

Mate those old people on disability/mobility scooters are crazy - they seem to drive on THE ROAD...and on the WRONG SIDE too...and on a ONE WAY street you've got them oncoming head-on! It's fine indoors, or places that are not public footpaths or roads. It might be fine in parks too, depending on local bi-laws etc. Private property would be fine too. Lots of places would be fine, but obviously the most useful places would not be.

I've got a carbon fibre s3 model, all the batteries go in the steering column, apart from the slightly wider tube, it looks the same as a child's push scooter. The same 250w hub motor. It won't tolerate hills but it'll get me to my work a mile and a half away in 10 minutes, with the occasional kick up the hills. I asked a number of police colleagues about being prosecuted on one and they said it wouldn't be worth their time. I've actially rode past arms distance from a policeman and several police vehicles and nothing's been said. I suppose if you ride like a teat and draw attention to yourself it would be different. Had a 1.5kw scooter with a removable saddle, 35 mph top speed but too much of an attention pulled but that was fun

While these aren't road legal electric bikes are, so long as you've got a 250W motor that doesn't kick in above 25km/h. This thing is so close to being legal but I think one requirement to be an ebike is that you have pedals attached to the drivetrain.

Some good reviews by the guy below. Good tips on what to do about punctures (using slime puncture product) as it sounds like a pain to repair the tube on these. Also, he mentions on eco mode he gets around 20km which sounds more believable and 13-14km in standard mode.
If these things become more common and pedestrians and even cyclists annoyed at bike lane use start to complain, i wonder if the police could start cracking down on them the way they did with segways, "hoverboards", etc - actually, whatever happened to hoverboards, did police crack down on them or people just stop using them. Manual kick scooters are so much slower that it makes sense that they're allowed alongside pedestrians, less so on bike lanes though.

I've seen a guy who rides an SXT scooter in Chelmsford and London. I've seen him on combined foot and cycle paths and no-one seemed to comment when he passed. His actually has a numberplate which I looked up to get the brand. It's more powerful than the Xiaomi (costs about £600 though) and it looks less casual but I've never seen anyone moan about the space it takes up on the train.
Anyway, I don't suppose you know as neither Essex nor London are known for being hilly, but is the KERS useful for extending the range or is it just a gimmicky braking mechanism? If it comes to it is it comfortable to scoot manually and would 30 mins manual labour get 5 mins of range back for the final straight?

Problem is as laws currently stand, could be charged for driving without insurance, and if you have a car license, actually banned. Unacceptable, but true.
wakeywarrior
1 Sep 17#77
Its just a matter of time before some jobsworth reports you, or some difficult bobby spots you and decides to make your life hard. If they charge you with no insurance, or registration, and you have a driving license, you could be disqualified from driving. This will then result in your insurance on your car being difficult when you get your license back, and many insurers not touching you. If this happens it is a massive whole heap of hassle coming your way. Unacceptable but true, so be careful.

Well firstly someone using one of these would need to be caught. Would a foot pursuit of one of these be within health and safety guidelines if the user wasn't wearing a helmet? Secondly in court the prosecution would have to prove that the motor was being used right? I'm not sure how much noise the motor would make but could possibly obscured by traffic for example? CCTV may be a risk but that would probably surely the investigator would consider a cost vs reward before even bothering to request it and decide not to bother?

The link they sent me doesn't work and cutting and pasting the tracking number into the courier's website shows "item not found".
Also, sent their customer services an email, but I've had zero response so far.
Also, if you use the same tracking number on the UPS site, it is still at the very first stage (label printed).
Shall we start an e-petition for a law change?

I've contacted them on facebook and twitter now and written public posts about where my order is after 45 days, needless to say they have deleted my posts and blocked me for asking where my order is, I assume as to not put off potential victims from buying

I have ordered successfully before with tomtop but I think these chinese sites have a short lifespan. It will probably close down soon and re open as something like tiptoptech.com and say they are celebrating their 30th birthday.
Anyone had better luck getting through?
