Well, Openreach finished the works to renew a section of cable in the pavement along from our house, in order to correct a fault they found on my line, and I now have phone line again, as well as Fibre Broadband. Cant complain over the £60 engineers visit charge, as I've had my moneys worth! Hehe.

During the phoneline downtime, the BB has been pretty solid since connection, and I have no complaints with the service (so far).

Just got another few weeks (28th) to wait for my redemption code for the free gift, and hope they have some of the Sonos speakers left.

Its a little odd that that charge you up front for the broadband you haven't yet used?
I wondered why my bill was £34.17.

Right guys, i decided to phone the company running the promotion direct and told them voda had said most people wont be getting gifts, he said he couldnt comment on what they had said buy said they will do their upmost to make sure everyone gets what they ask for............ time will tell i suppose but i cant claim my gift until Oct 26th he said (ordered on 11th sep)

My claim date was the 26th of September. Put my claim in that day and still heard nothing back. Apparently it can take up to a week to generate the code that allows you to claim your gift (!) As always with this sort of offer the hoop jumping will induce most people not to bother (remember mobile phone contract redemptions!?).

To hear they are already running out of gifts (if true) shows this was a simple attempt to grab as many customers as possible in a dishonest and underhand manner. Noted. Last time I take a Vodafone product!

Just received my email from Vodafone about claiming my free gift, and my claim date is 28/10/2017.

If they are planning to give credit in lieu of the free gift, then I hope they notify us soon. I can see them waiting till you claim, then telling you they have none left, and then you're beyond the 30 day cooling off period and faced with a fight to get an equal value credit or leave.
Simonlovell100
29 Sep 17 #426
Surely if they do go down this road people will heave reasonable grounds to break their contract even if they are outside of their cooling off period. How on earth can they be running out of gifts already the website only opened a week ago, and that is just the first stage it takes another week to get a code for a gift. All smells very fishy to me.

Hmmm, that will be a bit disappointing, as it was certainly one of the hooks (a free Sonos) that made me choose Vodafone.

However, if they credit my account with the same value (£199) then that would cover 6 months payments I suppose.

I'm still within my 30 day cooling period though, so if it looks like the credit offered is significantly less than the amount they put on the Sonos, then I may have to think whether to cancel myself.

Glad I cancelled and stayed with Plusnet then. I was very late to take up this deal (10th Sept). Would be interested to know how much the credit will be though considering the pre-paid card was £75 and the Sonos were valued at £199..

On the mobile app, I can see 'something' about the fibre contract. But it doesn't give me much detail, just monthly cost. As expected, customer service are terrible, one person reset my account, claiming that I had to login elsewhere to view the fibre contract and I should have received a temp password through email!
Anyway, am looking to move from Vodafone... check this thread forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/…045 about MITMing ... I guess any provider could do the same but also having to use a workaround to access Imgur gives a bad impression. There could be more sites that i'll have trouble accessing...

Mine similar and it also went live on 22nd. I already had mobile with them, and in My Account it only has my mobile number and landline number listed, n mention of the broadband/fibre. There are no details available under the landline number yet either.

Maybe they wait until your 30 day cooling off period is up?

I also haven't received any email about the free gift claim yet, however I have an ongoing issue with my line that Openreach are still working to resolve, so don't now if that has held anything up with mine.

That said, the fibre broadband is working ok, I just still have no phone line at present.

I received the following which tbh i expected mightve happened
"Oops! Something's not right:We recognise your details but you’re not able to claim just yet. You need to wait until your home broadband is active and you’ve passed your 30 day cooling off period, this is typically up to 44 days.

Well, had my install on friday and the openreach engineers have found a fault on the line (part of the cable along to the cabinet), which needs the pavement digging up to replace a cable. When it went active, I had a phone line but no internet. However since Openreach have been, I now have internet but no phone. I am told it could take up to 3 weeks to sort out (once they get permission to dig up the path), so if I am without a phone until then, I will be onto Vodafone for a credit back for any of the service I cant use.

Anyway, as for the internet service, I have run a few tests, and I am getting roughly 30-40mbps over wifi, but connecting direct with ethernet cable, the speeds were between 65 and 76mbps over varying tests... so looks like I am getting a full / decent speed. I just need to look at the wifi channel for the signal speeds.

I checked out the free gift claim page, but it didn't recognise my details - probably expected as I need to wait my 30 day cooling period before I can claim... which will be 22nd October.

But the fibre service seems ok so far... just a shame about the issues openreach found with the line - but I guess that wouldhave been found if I went with any fibre service through the phone line?

To those worried about Sonos availability, the terms state that the choice of colour and size is subject to availability, not individual items. They do state that they may substitute a gift to one of equal or greater value in the event of unavailability beyond their control.

I opted to change over one of our broadband lines to Vodafone, using this offer as we had it with BT, and the price was due to increase, so we've moved from 52 Mbit/s to the 76 Mbit/s service, and reduced the cost by £7 per month, and will hopefully receive the Sonos speaker (one Christmas present sorted :p) soon.

Rather than use the supplied router, I have opted to use the same Asus router we have been using with BT on this line for the last 11-12 months. Luckily getting the relevant information was painless, just popped on to a online chat, and asked for my PPPoE username and password, to use with my BT Openreach approved equipment. On the day my line went active, I just put the new details in the router, enabled 802.1Q and set the correct VLAN tag to 101.

I'm pleased to report that I am getting the full 76 Mbit/s down, and the full 18 M/bits up and have had no drop outs, I've done some large AWS backups to test this, and a few downloads ~400GB and it's rock solid.

So, now all I need is the Quidco to surface, and the ability to claim the free Sonos speaker, and Vodafone will score top marks for the short term review, lets see how they do long term. BT's service was faultless, other than one billing error when we cancelled the TV portion as it was not being used. I wish I could say the same about the Virgin Media service we have, constant issues, and woefully slow sometimes, continually giving credits against the bill for disrupted service, and being throttled even on the HomeWorks package. I miss the days of Telewest 512k, when it was uncontended , and throttling wasn't even thought about. :disappointed:

My service was going live from midnight last night, and an engineer is due today to 'install a new line'. However, I have just plugged in the house phones, and tried it and got a dialing tone. So I rang the number from my mobile and the phone rang... so it appears I have a line and its all active and working!

My router is due for delivery today (missed 2 previous attempts) but I'm assuming that is just plug in and go to get connected online too?

So, once the engineer has been if he confirms that everything is already in place, then I'll be chasing Vodafone for my £60 engineers fee refunded or credited to my account.

Just a shame their online order process didn't give the option not to pay it, with moving BB from Virgin, when I already had a BT phone socket from a previous service.

Do the people whose broadband has been activated and have received the gift email have any more information on the availability of the gift? One of the main reasons I signed up with vodafone except for the good offer was to get the Sonos speaker but not sure whether I may then be told that there were only available in low numbers and hence would need to settle with one of the other gifts instead?
I asked their customer support but they said that there is no such department who deals with the gift availability and as such there is no guarantee I'd be able to get the gift I wish for...

Any feedback would be welcome :-)

If you're still within the first 30 days of placing your order with Vodafone I'm sure you can cancel it. I rang them to cancel after receiving a similar phone call from Virgin, though they haven't yet sent a confirmation email.

I asked Virgin if they'd match my effective cost with Vodafone (£20) and they did, and after reading comments on hukd I managed to get 100Mbps too (after initially being offered 50Mbps).

Cancelled with Virgin following their price hike, my service with them finishing on 30th Sept. Signed up for the Vodafone 76MBps service on the 31-Aug, received my router about a week later, assumed I would receive my installation date shortly after. Still heard nothing after another week so I gave them a call, they said the order had been cancelled, they had sent Virgin a letter but heard nothing back so just went ahead and cancelled my order, no notification whatsoever.

Of course at that stage I knew there was no way I would be getting my Sonos gift, they would long be out of stock by the time I got activated and waited my 30 days. However because they had just started their next offer of 20% off I accepted that for £24/month, so I wasn't too fuming.

Then I get an email saying activation will be 6th Oct, a week after I get cut off from Virgin. I call up again (same problem as last time, long ass wait on the line or request a callback, I did the latter), I explained that I would be without internet for a week and they have already messed me about, the representative said they couldn't move the installation date any earlier. I complained some more, didn't help, they said it was down to availability of BT engineers and this was the first date I could be activated.

Pretty crap start so far.

Stop talking to them on chat and pick up the phone. This is what I had to do! get them to honor there promises and record it in your call notes
I had purchased mine two days before the offer started and so I was going to cancel and reorder but there assured me that I was put on a list and would receive the gift redemption email. After a few date setbacks I went live on the 1st instead of the 30th (originally 23rd) and the email came through But there was a discrepancy on the home number which could have invalidated my gift claim. So I emailed the people running the gift on behalf of vodaphone and a couple days later they updated my number with a new email. I've just checked this email address and it's specially tied to my gift number so I can't forward this to you.
The main take away here is do not come off the phone till you have the broadband team and customer services agreeing to your terms

Some observations:
I went for this deal on 16 August with a start date of Monday 4 September. Blurb stated that a router would be sent a few days before the start date, but it was not. When I rang them they confirmed no router had been sent, but gave no explanation. To be fair he promised to get one sent on the next working day, and did, but I never got any texts or emails and missed the delivery as a result. I had to instigate contact with the couriers myself to get a one-hour time slot the following day. So I was without internet for two days, not too big a deal, but annoying.
I did not receive the promised email with instructions "and unique code" to claim the free gift, so no idea if I will be able to claim it once the claim website goes live. And of course once this deal ended they dropped the price from £25 to £20 for the standard speed, so if I don't get the gift I will have lost out.
The actual router and internet connection has been fine, and the speed just the same as my previous ISP; EE.

But such a bad experience with the Vodafone online chat support - I have not experienced anything like it since I ditched NTL / Virgin many years ago - it is an almost surreal experience with the 'support' staff answering totally different questions to what you have asked, and randomly stating absurd comments. When I tried the chat support to make sure my router had been dispatched, the operative first informed me don't worry, I would get the router before the go-live date of the 4th September - but this was on the 4th! She then informed me my order had been rejected, and I should cancel the direct debit to Vodafone immediately! In another chat I asked about the email regarding claiming the free gift, and all he did was copy and paste the T's and C's from the Vodafone website - which included the part about receiving an email with instructions within 7 days. He totally denied that you get an email with instructions (he did not actually read what he had sent me) and just kept saying I had to wait 30 days before claiming - it was a farcical conversation and he never did grasp what I was asking. He did state that all customers could switch to the new pricing plan, but given the experience I will not take it as gospel

I had a similar problem, I had slower speeds and frequent disconnections. It was down to the Vodafone router being sensitive to electrical interference in the line.
I replaced it with my own modem/router and got full speed.

I've just had a call from Virgin loyalty and been offered 50Mbbps for 12 months for £20/month!
Damn - they've matched the effective cost I'd be paying Vodafone. (Based on selling sonos player for £150 and £30 tcb, minus connection fee and line rental lost ).

Now I'm going to have to ring Vodafone and cancel this deal. After all that fussing!!

Has anyone had any issues with cancelling their broadband order? Will they just refund the £60 connection fee?

Thanks for the reply Thar

I guess I must've missed it then. I just assumed that the letter would've made it clear that I would be getting a new number then I could've contacted them before the switch date.

I have just been on the phone to Vodafone, and they said that cancelling now wouldn't guarantee getting the old number back, so the best option is to attempt to get it back first, which they offered to start the process immediately, then I got cut off

Regarding the gift versus termination I got an email saying 'Broadband sorted, now for your gift' explaining what I need to do and when. At the bottom of the email was this small print.

Please note, this offer cannot be used in conjunction with any other promotion, offer, discount or voucher unless stated otherwise. This includes (but is not limited to) price promotions, Switch My Broadband ("Early Cancellation Credit Offer") or employee Home Broadband and Phone discount.

The support guy didn't think that would be the case though and was going to clarify for me (before I got cut off).

Thanks for the clarification about the cashback tracking at £0, hopefully that will be ok then.

Meant to add that the speed whilst fine, is slower than I had with Plusnet (52mbps as opposed to 55mbps) but according to the letter from Vodafone my minimum guaranteed speed is 67mbps.

Could there be something wrong with the copper line (I'm about 120m as the crow flies from the cabinet).

I'm having a dilemma. I switched to Vodafone on the 1st Sep. Service has been ok, but they gave me a new phone number (don't remember seeing anything to specify whether you wanted to keep your existing number on the application).

Can't get the number back until after the cooling off period, and I'm not sure whether it's guaranteed even then, whereas I assume if I cancel it'll revert me back to Plusnet with the old number (but that may be wishful thinking).

Topcashback has tracked but at £0, so worried there may be an issue here. Now just seen the comments about not being able to get the free gift and the termination fee credit.

Not sure whether to hope for the best or cancel before the cooling off period expires?

Decent results then. Be interesting to see the same testmy tests at peak times. I was with SSE and the throttling from them was horrendous. funny enough, I do live in the area but virgin is still unable to complete installation (10 days after supossed instalation date, no updates other than "we're sorry, problems with cabling").

As much as people complain about vodafone, I've had some issues with overcharges etc but every time it was sorted with some kind of a compensation. I've signed up to new broadband instalation 5 days ago and because they've had to change my instalation date to 19th from 11th they gave me extra 50gb x2 mobile data for 14 days....virgin? £2 less every month and I still have to pay for installation fees and still can't give me any answer of what's hapenning.

I was on the matched SSE deal with Plusnet. My deal ended in July and the price has gone up to £19.99 plus the line rental saver, so I'm now paying £35.48. I've been on holiday so only just seen this deal. The cashback is now £30 but better than nothing. My line rental saver doesn't run out until 25th October but the £30 cashback and monthly saving I'd get with this would be worth losing that. I was going to give Plusnet retentions a call this morning but it seems pointless from what you've said. How they've changed in the last two years! Did you go with this deal in the end? Right now I'm using the Asus DSL-AC68U

It has a built in modem so was pretty easy to set up. The router itself has great coverage and customisable. Not a single drop out. Maybe expensive if you buy now but look at Amazon warehouse. Also could sell the gift from Vodafone and reimburse yourself with a quality router that's pretty much future proof

The Asus NT 6..something? Is great too. Much cheaper but doesn't have a modem built in. You could use the Vodafone router or an old BT open reach one to solve that.

I had Sky installed last year (used to be with Virgin Media). I have the telephone, tv and internet and an Openreach BT box was installed on the wall - one side for the telephone and the other for the Sky router. For this Vodafone deal above, would they still use the Openreach BT box that I am currently using, or would they need to install another box on the wall? Thank you.

They would use the Openreach BT box that's already installed

Funnily enough I have found the Vodafone router to be excellent - much better than I expected and probaby better than the BT HomeHub5 I have had for the last 3 years (first on BT and then Plusnet). My Vodafone service went live on 30/08

For the first few days the broadband may be settling down and some dropouts may happen.

You're lucky. The first day I had 32 disconnections and I'm not even exaggerating. Second day the internet barely even stayed on. I tried resetting, changing the settings in the router but nothing worked. I'm assuming the router couldn't handle the amount of devices in my household. When I switched to my Asus I haven't had any drop outs.

I was on BT before this as well and get the same speed so in the end I'm happy too.

I've got the 76mbps package and I have to say, it's awesome. We moved away from Virgin, purely based on price and haven't noticed a single bit of difference between Virgin 100mbps speed and our one. Vodafone seem to be the only guys guaranteeing you a MINIMUM speed, so if you're on Sky or Virgin and paying for 50-100mb speeds and only getting 2mbps, you're stuck.

We haven't had any drops in connection either since we signed up in May of this year, so overall I can't really rate it highly enough.

A little late to game on commenting on this one, but absolutely agree with you here. I only opted for the lower 38mb package as that is more than enough for my needs. But the service has been nothing short of perfect for me having started my service, like you in may. The transfer of the line from BT to Vodafone, the activation of the service, the quality of the service since activation and their broadband router with the focused wifi feature are all brilliant(the latter not some marketing gimmick, it actually works). Not a single dropped connection, no need for constant restarts of the hub (as with BT, who refused to acknowledge a problem after an engineers visit, who said just restarting the hub would solve most problems, even if I had to do that at least once a week. Couldn't wait to leave BT quick enough). I get that it is BTs network that is being used, but the one and only time I have had to call Vodafone Customer Services, over a billing query which proved to be nothing (an error reading the bill on my part), they were prompt, courteous and knowledgeable. Heat for me for the deal, some cracking wee gifts to claim, not available when I joined, but those are the breaks! You win some you lose some! Ha ha

I'm in two minds about what to do. I paid Virgin my line rental upfront last year but they've sent me a letter allowing me to leave. My broadband has been completely fine with Virgin.

If I leave them now I lose 3 months of line rental which is about £45.

They also said they will save an offer for me when my current contract finishes whereby I pay £146 for the line rental saver, £9 for first three months and then £14 for the last nine months. Which is effectively £25/month for 70Mbbps. I don't know whether to trust them on that offer being available in 3 months!!

If I switch to Vodafone it's £25/month for less speed and I have to pay £60 for the open reach engineers. It all comes down to the free gift!!! Is the switch hassle worth it for a Sonos player?

Decisions decisions. ...

Tried to get this and got rejected by Vodafone as failed their credit check...which doesn't make sense as my credit is good (I even checked Experian and Equifax after this I was so shocked by the rejection). Pretty annoyed by this.

I'm currently on BT Infinity 1 - but contract is up later this month.

Anyone get any decent retention deals when staying on BT? BT seem pretty lousy and there are better deals to be had (seems like new customers for most providers shouldn't pay more than £25/month for both 38mbps fibre and line rental and often with some kind of cashback thrown in to make it even cheaper).

Hello all,
Few questions before i get this.
Did the post code checker, says i can get fibre 76 and the estimated download speed will be 50-69Mbps. The estimated upload speed will be 15-20Mbps.

Underneath it says estimated download speeds on standard broadband 17 2-4Mbps. The estimated upload speed will be 0.70-1Mbps.
If i get the 36 Fibre, i should get the max 36 as the fibre is capable of 50Mbps? The standard broadband would be using the ADSL and phone line?
Said on website an engineer would have to install new line... and a new phone number will be provided... Is that correct? Virgin Media had to dig up the garden and put a line in to the house, but we could keep the same phone number. Would really prefer not to lose the phone number. Would it be possible to say only broadband and forget phone if it means keeping the current number?

People using their own routers, are you using them on their own, or letting the Vodafone router get the internet connection, then LAN wiring your router to the Vodafone one? This is how my current Virgin Media one works, so the Virgin Media cable goes to Virgin Media router. That is set to modem mode, then a Billion Router provides the WiFi etc. This way dont have to reset up WiFi and all devices. But when we had Sky, we entered the username and password into Billion and that on its own, provided everything. As Vodafone is fibre, presume have to do the 1st one as the Billion is only an ADSL router.

1. Won't need to change number of current line is a standard one owned by BT.
2. Routers with built in fibre are rare and nearly always rubbish. You want a VDSL modem and router separate.
3. People "who use their own router" do 2. after obtaining the user/pass from Vodafone. This takes 5 mins and you will need to say you have a certified openreach router that has built in VDSL.
4. Yes you would expect to get the maximum speed easily as your line supports well over 38mbps.
Having said that those predicted speeds indicate you would likely get the full 76mbps if you went for the higher package as the speed test lookup does not provide guaranteed maximums above 55mbps in any situation, as this is the only speed that can be guaranteed to even if your line is capable of much

After having read some of the negative comments about the supplied Vodafone VDSL router I have been very pleasantly surprised by it so far! It does 2.4/5GHz with split SSID, NAT, DMZ etc. - I am pretty confident it has more user control than the BT HomeHub5 which I have had for over the last 3 years. Still locked down in some areas and not for everyone!

It has also been solid with good throughput so far. As my line is only predicted to support ~44Mbps I have taken the "Fibre38" product - and that's what the VDSL speed solidly is.

Actual data rate 39994 (Kbps.) 7947 (Kbps.)

1. So we would get another number.. Wont the original line be disconnected since it wont have any line rental paid on it? If not, we would call out on the Voda number, but still receive calls fine on the current home number?
3. I have a Billion 7800N, the website states this about the product. Would this be ok to use with the Vodafone modem? I want to keep the Voda to get the internet, but just LAN wire to my Billion to run WiFi, DHCP etc...
Currently have it set to EWAN mode or something with my Virgin Media router, but didnt have to enter any settings. Not 100% but when we had Sky im sure it was PPOE username and password... the same with Voda?
Thanks mate.

"the 7800N works just as well with cable providers, such as Virgin, and also new superfast broadband packages from BT Infinity and other providers using NGN (Next Generation Network) technologies, including FTTC, FTTP and VDSL."

Yeah but in some areas Virgin are terrible.

I was paying for 152Mb, I had awful ping-jitter, terrible upload speeds at all times (2-3Mb), during peak hours download speeds were between 3-5Mb, and I also had awful single-threaded download speeds at all times (under 10Mb). This wasn't a Wi-Fi issue as my gaming devices are all wired in. The engineer came multiple times and couldn't fix it, in the end VM admitted they were massive over-subscribed in my area.

Basically meant it was impossible to play online games or even stream Netflix, which is the basics now-a-days.

Just had a quick google. As of March this year fibre to premises was to 435,000 premises in the uk. ONS says there were approx 27,000,000+ households (there's obviously a lot more businesses). The person was moaning about having to pay line rental when they don't use their phone line. The comment wasn't about the overall cost. Whether it's all in one package or separate doesn't really matter at the end of it, £18'ish of line rental will still be part of your bill.

The article Google turned us just stated that virgin media do not use BT's copper network.

I incorrectly assumed this to be a fiber solution.

You're correct. They use a coaxial connection from the cabinet, which is a copper core - surrounded by low loss shielding.

Interestingly, virgin own and install these cables. So do they still charge line rental, say if you don't want a landline?

Coax is a much higher bandwidth and better screened cable than phone wire - but Virgin adverts implying it’s all fibre annoy me. They use their coax cable for TV and Broadband but, as I understand it, a separate thinner cable for phone.

They sell TV, Broadband and Phone and, if you take Phone, then Line Rental IS charged. All their “Bundle” prices strongly encourage taking their phone service - by making it almost as expensive not to!

Engineer fee? I tried to sign up and it said not available ( even though I had already checked it was in our exchange )

Went online and was told to check again.....and it is available? We already have ee broadband and Virgin.
Does anyone know if they "might" try to charge an engineer visit as we will be keeping Virgin and just using the ee line?

I went through Quidco, but it hasn't tracked yet.

An earlier post on here from someone who claims to work for Vodafone reckons they cant tell whether an order has come through a cashback site, and it shouldn't affect claiming the gift.

The claim site doesn't go live until later in September anyway, and then you can only claim 30 days after your install date, due to the cooling off period.
BrianM to johnson293
30 Aug 17 #291
On Topcashback it HAS tracked - but only at a token £1 level. I queried this and they said that Vodafone register all cashback claims (broadband, mobile etc.) centrally initially and - (like the "free gifts") - don't start to process these until well after their 30 days cooling off period!

The offer was showing in quidco adverts 2 weeks ago, and the quidco page showed the image being used in the offer so i would abe very surprised if it wasnt.

That said...quidco will happily stitch up its customers, so there are no guarantees  . Ive had 3 quidco payments cancekked this year because the company in question has left the scheme and there is nothing you can do about it.

The web-address where the free gifts will be claimed has already been posted in this thread!

However you have to wait for 30 days after activation of the Broadband (due to their “cooling off” period) and the Claims site only opens on 23rd September (presumably 30 days after the earliest possible order was installed!)

30 Aug 17 #293
I'm in the same boat, sick of Virgin putting the price up, I'm just about to order this deal and presume the £60 is for a phone line to be installed as the virgin one will be no good.

I'm the same, moving from Virgin and have paid the £60 engineer fee.

However, I had Sky BB and phone before Virgin, so already have a BT/Telephone master socket fitted, and Virgin installed their own separate socket/connector when they did their install. So i'm not sure if the engineer will need to do much to mine, or is it just a case of reactivating an old line, rather than fully installing anything?

If he comes and has little to do, I'll be chasing Vodafone for the £60 credit back, as 'Throttle' was advised about above.

I had that and have now been charged £60 during sign up yet before i signed up i did talk to Vodafone on there live chat advising them that my line was under 4 year old attached some of the chat before.

David: Hi Natasha, i was looking at prices on unlimited 76 fibre broadband yet even though my line is under 4 year old and has had fibre with Plusnet in the past i get "We're able to provide Vodafone Broadband at your property by using a new line" and a £60 engineer cost added on the end  I'm currently with Virgin Media so i'm only looking at prices and deals about as my contract ends in October with them.
Natasha:
Hello DAvid

Natasha:
Once you enter your address the system picks if new line is required or not

Natasha:
So if it picks the new line installation the fee would apply

Natasha:
The technician who comes to install service, if he finds new line is not required, than you will get the credit back okay?

David: So if the engineer comes along and sees its not a old line i will get the £60 credited againts the account then ?
Natasha:
yes correct

Gonna ring virgin later to put my cancellation in. Just checked, and the 50mb fibre I have now will rise to £34/month at end of November when my deal ends, and thats fibre BB alone with no phone line/service.

Had a quick look on Vodafone site through the order process, and I can get an install date of September 22nd, which will be near enough the end of my 30 day notice to VM.

Also looked at Sky (as a TV subscriber), and their fibre is £20/month with a 25gb limit... £30/mth for unlimited, both of those with up to 34mb speed.... and £35/mth for fibre max, with up to 76mb speed, and all with18mth contracts.

So the Vodafone deal is looking the best option (for me) at the moment.

I recently switched to Vodafone broadband from BT. I like the simplicity of the charging model - flat £30/month and no nonsense with Line Rental Saver and obfuscated billing.

On the Fibre 76 product, I am getting a sync speed a little slower than I did from BT, resulting in about 56Mb download when I used to get 64. This is a little disappointing but upload is syncing at a very respectable 20Mb. I suspect that there is higher latency with Vodafone and ping is slower on speed test sites.

People were asking about using your own router - you should be able to, if you can get customer services to provide your authentication credentials - which are pre-programmed into your Vodafone router. They will only release this information if you quote an Openreach-approved router. When you have the details, set your router up for PPPoE and set the supplied username/password. More info here.

I used a Netgear R7000 router and a BT (Huawei) HG612 modem combination successfully. However I switched back to the Vodafone router, which is managing the connection and DHCP while the Netgear acts as a wireless access point.

Hope it helps someone.

13 Aug 17 #122
That's a little worrying about the latency increase. Is it a big increase, and also does it occur on ethernet as well or just wifi? Thanks
digitaria to mattpwill
13 Aug 17 #125
Always testing on wifi - but it's like for like with the BT setup before I switched to Vodafone. 8ms ping on BT and around 18 with Vodafone. What that means in reality is anybody's guess, but it seems less snappy and I noticed some video stuttering on All 4 when it's buffering the programme and I don't recall the same while on BT (I'm not a gamer). I am nitpicking a little - Vodafone is a much better deal.
mattpwill to digitaria
14 Aug 17 #128
Ok great, thanks for the info. I don't suppose you could see if the latency goes down by a lot when connected via ethernet please? I'm only guessing but the extra latency is probably at least partly caused by the router. No worries if you can't, and thanks again!

Finally got back home and in my absence, the Vodafone router has resynced at a faster speed and suddenly ping values are much improved.

Testing on Ethernet was as follows: -

but (using a Netgear R7000 in Wireless Access Point mode) the wireless figures are little different.

Received a letter from Virgin Media today advising if a £1.99/month price increase for my superfibre 50 fibre service, saying that until 30th September I can cancel without penalty if I'm not happy about it.

I am currently on a discount offer (£18/month for 12 months) which finishes at the end of November which is when the increase will kick in for me, but being given the opportunity I might bail out now without penalty, so I wont need that offer from Vodafone.

So I may now go for this, and hopefully claim the sonos gift.

I will just need to pay the £60 engineers visit fee.

Is Vodafone Broadband just as good as BT Broadband?
M1K33EE
23 Aug 17 #270
For an extra £5, i.e. £30 pm you can get up to 76Mb. I've been stuck with Virgin for the past five years waiting for capacity to be added to my local cabinet I tried to signup with BT yesterday via MoneySavingExpert's new Broadband comparison tool. The BT website told me there wasn't any free space available, tried for the same address on Vodafone, no problem, including the Openreach installation of a new lBT Line - Remember I have been with Virgin Media. My install date is for the 10th and I cannot wait to be able to call up Virgin Media and tell them where they can stick their Broadband & their constant price rises etc. I cannot wait.
with this Vodafone deal too one of the options is to receive a £75 PrePaid MasterCard which you can use toward the monthly charge. Personally I'm going for the Sonos which I can then flog on fleabay for more £'s than £75 and use that to pay my bill. So depending on how much I can get for the Sonos I could potentially save myself £150-£200 off of my years bill. Oh and it's an 18month contract too with no price hikes and it's truely Unlimited, not fair use. The only problem I can envisage is trying to get my PPPoe login details as Vodafone don't like to give it out, which might prove to be a little tricky as I like to use my own equipment (Draytek & Cisco)
anyways, I'll stop waffling now, but of all the deals out there, this is one of the best currently I spent hours researching and comparing. Regards, Michael

I signed up for this but cancelled before going live after negotiating a better deal with BT my existing provider. I signed up with BT for a 24 month contract @ £26.99 (52mb with weekend calls & line rental). 12 months was available @ £28.99 although they won't offer either of these retention deals straight away - you need to negotiate a little. The fact that BT were aware that I had started a switch to Vodafone may have helped. On balance I decided that the risks with switching outweighed the benefits of the Vodafone package, which for me would have been the speaker & £50 cashback if my TCB claim was ever honoured downstream - my purchase never tracked automatically. I get a solid BT infinity service the package includes weekend calls, caller display (+£1 with Vodafone), BT WiFi, 100 GB Cloud storage, anti virus etc. If it ain't broke don't fix it

Know that unless on top tier with virgin (expensive unless whole package tv etc) virgin throttle to pathetic speeds in the day. Unless you require most large downloads 10Gb plus in an hour instead of two or multiple simultaneous downloads under the same requirements, most people wouldnt see the benefit. Also.... if we're downloading from 'those places' most popular/new downloads have too many leechers to give you what you're top speed is anyway.

  • Please note, the Offer cannot be used in conjunction with any other promotion, offer, discount or voucher unless stated otherwise. This includes (but is not limited to) price promotions, ‘free’ product promotions or Vodafone employee Home Broadband and Phone discount.

So it looks like you can have the free gift *or* them paying early termination charges..

I called into the Vodafone store at Metrocentre earlier and asked about their Broadband and these offers, as I am considering it.

I asked if it was a choice of free gift OR the early termination payment, and the guy in store told me you get both.

Can the Vodafone advisor who posted earlier clarify this please?

I'm very tempted to switch away from BT as I'm out of contract from today, but have a couple of questions:

1. If I find the Vodafone router gives inferior / flaky wifi performance, can I use it as a modem and simply connect it to my BT Smart Hub to provide my wifi etc that way? I've read through the thread and some people seem to be confirming that you can get your User ID and password from Vodafone CS but I want to be sure.

2. How frequent are these disconnections that a few people are complaining of? Is it the broadband connection itself (loss of service) or a router problem?

Estimated download speed range*

7.61Mbps to 12Mbps
Minimum guaranteed download speed**

6.01Mbps
Estimated upload speed range*

You do NOT need to cancel Plusnet! I changed from them and I got a "See your leaving" email from Plusnet about an hour or two after I had signed up to Vodafone - the action of the new provider booking the line change notifies the existing broadband supplier.

There is no mention of any fixed quantity of free gifts - and, as the time you can claim depends on when your changeover day is, there had better not be!

It was weird...i would have expected traffic shapping to reduce my speed to medium or low at busy times but to provide a consistent connection.

Vodafone throttle traffic too.

I must say though I've been with Plusnet for around 7 years and I've never noticed any traffic throttling during peak times. Their service has been exceptional for line stability and speed.

However, this price and offer is too tempting. I would definitely go back to Plusnet if Vodafone ends up being terrible.

After ordering this Vodafone called me up today to say that they couldn't guarantee more than 6-7mb on fibre for my house even though I currently get 16-20mb through plusnet fibre. It is a bit disappointing as I was looking forward to getting the headphones and hopefully getting a better upload speed than the rubbish one I get with plusnet.

Pah they only do the snail pace copper broadband in my area.
My housing estate is 3 year old and has had virgin fibre from Day 1. Why on earth BT havent connected to the estate is beyond me. I know BT fibre reaches the main road connecting to the estate as my relatives are with them who live on that road.
Basically im stuck with Virgin and cannot negotiate deals because they know theres no BT fibre to my house. :rage:

I've gone for it. Been with BT for 1 yr with no issues but as a happy vodafone mobile customer I've had my eye on their pricing and this offer has swung it so I'll hand over my dollars. Worth noting that as an existing customer the sign up process was ridiculously easy - logged in and all the details were pre-populated. The credit check (if they even did one) took about 5 seconds.

other half wants a Fitbit for Christmas so that's sorted too!

Will be interesting to see how the Vodafone router compares to the BT homehub 6 - early indications are it's pretty good

I've just taken the bait for the 76Mb service. I've been cheaping out on the 10Mb Sky service which is currently plodding along at 6Mb, and I've got so many devices (3 IP Cams, WeMo, Alexa, Philips Hue, Phones, Computers, Laptops, TVs, Amp) that the whole experience is just getting painful.

I'll be needing that £100 bill credit though as I agreed to remain with Sky when they reduced my bill to £15/mo after sending their fee increase early cancellation details.

How many months left have you got in your contract? Sky can charge £15 for each month left for broadband
dkl_uk to Vistrix
16 Aug 17 #203
I'm in contract until March.

My current deal is £15/mo all-in. They weren't able to tell me on the phone what the early cancellation charge will be, quoting only the "line rental" portion which would be about £40.

Sky have now provided a similar deal, albeit ever so slightly more, but a 12 month contract instead of 18. I'm probably going to cancel Vodafone now.

Sky offered me:
£36(ish) per month for Sky Max.
£50 bill credit (which takes care of about 9 month's worth of the additional £ required compared to Vodafone
£15 activation instead of £50
Free router delivery, plus upgrade to their higher spec router for free.

Checked online, even new customers can't get close to that. Also, I only just entered into a 12 month contract back when the prices allowed us to attempt to leave, so they didn't need to offer any sort of retention as i'm only half way through that.

Personal opinion of Vodafone Fibre is that, for the most part, it's quick and stable. The customer service is pretty decent but their modem/router is absolute dogshit. It would constantly drop connection, reboot and kill the LAN ports, forcing a full factory reset to get it running again, until the next time.

One I switched out for an Asus AC68U (I think that's the model, I'm not home) and obtained the PPPoE details from CS (they only recently changed their minds and allowed this to be shared), I've not had a problem aside from some often-noticeable throttling.

So, when using my own equipment, it's mostly fine, but I'm looking forward to next March when I can leave them.

I’ve been very impressed with Vodafone since switching from BT to the 76MB package. Not had any issues with the connection or the router and I use it heavily with many devices connected. Both wireless and wired have been spot on and the speed is always good.

16 Aug 17 #200
Does anyone know for certain that you can't have the free gift AND the (up to) £100 switching credit? The offer page mentions both things but doesn't seem to say its one or the other.

I am currently with Virgin on their 50MB Fibre, which I got on a 12 month deal for £18/month with no phone line (Black Friday deal). That offer ends at end of November, then it'll go up to nearer £30/month.

I am tempted by this - have checked, and it reckons we could get estimated speed of 63 - 76mbps, and a minimum of 56mbps. I think we may now need a home phone line again, and with the free gift (we'd also go for the Sonos speaker), then this looks decent value, even for 18 months.

However, with changing from Virgin, its saying we'd also need an engineer visit at £60, so if I can also get the credit to cover my last 3 months with VM, then I'd go for it... but don't want to be paying VM to opt out early + the £60 engineer visit to Vodafone.

Not particularly bothered about going through a cashback site, but would like to get the gift and switching credit, if possible.

i didn't vote wither way, but imo it's not a great deal unless you really want a sonos, mostly as it's 18 month contract. which some prefer.

assuming sonos would sell for 150 & 50ish quid cashback, this works out at about £14pm. again not everyone switches every time, but I do, so it makes more sense to go with the better deals to be had on 12 month contracts with BT who chuck in BT sport, give more cashback and have better customer service than vodafone. currently BT have £110 topcashback + £150 prepaid mcard for £32pm + £60 activation for faster BB - not bad, effectively £15pm, with sport. (my current deal works out at just over £11pm for 54mb)

crucially though you don't have to wait another 6 months before embarking on the whole silly merry-go-round, which is a plus for some.

I've gone for this. I'm currently with Sky and that contract doesn't expire until 11 October but to fair play to Vodafone it lets you select when you want the service to start, this is something I've not seen before. It's a few quid more than my current deal and yes it's an 18 month contract but the free Sonos Play 1 speaker has swung it for me to add to my collection and if you add that in to the mix it's a great deal. I was going to go with Talk Talk as I've used them in the past and had no issues, unlike BT' service which was unreliable and a nightmare switching away from them as I had BT sport and they wouldn't let me give notice on BT Sport (even though they e-mailed me advising I might want to consider carrying on with it as price would go up with not having broadband) until I had switched broadband, thus they had me tied in for 60 days, 30 of those being at full price. I'll never forget that and probably never go back to BT Rant Over

I don't get fibre in my area. Does anyone know if Vodafone's ADSL broadband is any better than sky's? I need to get out of sky for 2 reasons, my contract ended, and is terribly slow. speeds vary throughout the day.. downloads vary between 2 - 3 mpbs and uploads comes to 0.11 - 0.44 mbps.. sometimes internet is unusable, i tried all my best to fix this issue for ages, but no luck. It uses the same Openreach connection until it gets to the exchange (after that it's on Vodafone's kit, which used to be Cable and Wireless), by the sounds of it your speeds are limited by the length of the wire, rather than issues with the exchange.

How far from your local Openreach cabinet do you live? If it's more than 1/4 of a mile you'll have issues.

You can find out by following this:

1) Go here: dslchecker.bt.com/ and find your cabinet number
31705203-7zaa2.jpg2) Now that you have your cabinet number you need to find its location. This may involve scouting around your area or use of Google Maps. Green PCP cabinets will have their number spray painted on them.

My Plusnet 24Month (where they price matched SSE) deal has come to an end which was unlimited downloads 78M download and 20M upload for around £20 per month including line rental. Will go up now to nearly £50 OUCH!!! The retention department was hopeless. I am interested to hear from anyone else who was on this deal and what they did.

hotukdeals.com/dea…e=6

Time to move I guess, for this £25 per month for 38M down 10M upload which is enough for me, using Topcashback for the £52 cashback (currently tracked) and will wait 30 days after being connected to claim the gift of the Sonos speaker. I have also checked Vodafone's terms, they do not throttle speeds during peak and for heavy traffic users.

A point to note Plusnet's 38M package is 2M upload whereas the Vodafone deal is 10M upload on the same service. The 78M deal has the same upload speed of 20M for both if you are interested in that one.

How straightforward is it to use the Vodafone router as a modem, then use my existing BT Smart Hub as my router, handling DHCP, Wifi etc? Can you access the config of the Vodafone router to switch off DHCP and Wifi then simply connect it to the BT Smart Hub?

Most of the comments about Vodafone seem to be about the flaky router or port customer service. Is the fibre broadband service/connection itself reliable and consistent in terms of performance?

At the moment you can get that for £215 but with TV (pause and rewind freeview channels + BT sport) and calls included. (Around £18 a month)

If you're not interested in the free gifts it will work out cheaper (per month) and it will be a 12 month contract.

Best deal I can find on BT currently:

Unlimited 52mbps fibre + weekend calls + basic youview box + BT sport is £30 a month + £60 installation = £420. Minus £80 gift card & (possible) £130 cashback from TCB = £210 for 12 months (17.50 a month).

You would need to cancel after 12 months because the price goes up to at least £500 a month thereafter.

Is the BT Sports in HD at that cost or SD?
captainbeaky to strocky
11 Aug 17 #80
Pretty sure that it's sd on the youview box with the cheapest package but whether you can stream in hd via the web/ app I don't know.
aratkin to captainbeaky
11 Aug 17 #82
No it was in March I think. It was BB+phone for £29 a month + £60 setup fee. £100 TCB + £150 BT mastercard made it £158 for the year. There were some days where you could get a £200 BT mastercard instead. But yeah he will move to virgin after the year with BT is up. Compared to virgin which was around £300 it was a no-brainer to go for that. I will contact virgin media next time to see if they can match.

That's the same deal which I looked up last night, difference was TCB was offering £125 instead at the time.

It definetly makes it worth it to have a good look around.
gogboy to captainbeaky
11 Aug 17 #90
Is there a way of doing this when you are already on the BT rip off price of way too much?
captainbeaky to gogboy
11 Aug 17 #91
Cancel & take out a new contract using a different name & payment details (partner, girlfriend, housemate etc.). It's worth noting that your cat, dog or gerbil probably won't pass the mandatory credit check.
gogboy to captainbeaky
12 Aug 17 #101
That sounds like it's going to have the hallmarks of a lot of Internet downtime possibly? So if I do that in the wife's name what happens at the end of the contract and the price goes back up again
kimyt11
11 Aug 17 #87
How do you actually claim the prize. Purchased yesterday for installation on the 29th
aratkin to kimyt11

Usually you can claim after the 30 days. In your order does it say that you're entitled to a free gift?

Just ordered after escaping virgin. If you've received a price increase letter from Virgin you have until 30/9 to cancel your contract and walk away...

This is very tempting. Not sure if it's tempting enough to cancel my Virgin broadband though.

Could you use your own router? I have a BT home hub 6 which is pretty decent!
snaphappy71
11 Aug 17 #86
How does the Vodafone router compare to the BT Smart Hub? We have had excellent wifi performance from the latter, but I am reading very mixed reviews of the Vodafone offering.

It's a good deal but only if it's stable, reliable, and as fast as advertised...
ZeroEx to snaphappy71

It's a very good router, don't worry
misterashraf
11 Aug 17 #79
Vodafone's broadband router is very unreliable. First one packed up and it took a week of no internet to convince Vodafone the router had stopped working. Second one keeps changing channel frequency randomly, having to reset the router box every few days. I'd buy one off the shelf but Vodafone broadband only works with routers that they supply.

Only for the fact I still get BT Sports free with BT I'd be all over this!
snaphappy71
11 Aug 17 #62
Can your phone line still be used to make/receive calls with this offer?

Also has anyone with Vodafone fibre got wired devices connected to the ports on the router and wireless devices all working OK?
pibpob to snaphappy71
11 Aug 17 #72
That is a basic function of a wifi router - if that doesn't work, the router is broken.
Walshyd1989 to snaphappy71
11 Aug 17 #76
Yes you can still use the landline, there is just no charge for it. You can buy call bundles, evening and weekend calls or anytime calls and I have my ps4 direct through Ethernet cable and works a treat!

You can use the landline if you want, you can opt to pay o'er minute for calls or add a calling bundle. Either evening and weekend calls or anytime calls are available as extras.

I was with vodafone for almost a year. Their router is a terribly faulty piece of kit. It was quicker to use the 4G on my phone. Streaming from the NAS kept buffering. Luckily for me they increased their prices which allowed me to leave the contract early. Won't be going with vodafone again.

  • TomTom Bandit Action Camera
  • £75 prepaid Mastercard® card

Been with Vodafone for over a year and the speed is good. The router has decent coverage but is locked down and has some weird issue with wired and wireless networks not speaking to each other so ruined my home network.

I fixed it with BT Whole Home though so I will probably renew in November - anybody tried to get this deal on a retention deal?

I hope youve explained this badly, because what I've understood is they connected you in a week and you expect a newly released offer to be given to you even though it's not in your contract or part of the deal you agreed. I'm all for slating companies but get it right.

Tried Vodafone, router was less than impressive. Internet when not dropping out was fine.
Too erratic for sensible use, cancelled and went back to BT whose home hub 6 is actually very good. Paying more but the quality of the broadband is worth it.

How does the £100 bill credit work? Is it only if you are in contract with another provider?
V6ALFISTI to moody

I just looked and it covers "up to £100" to cover costs relating to an early termination of another contract. So not a £100 credit for simply switching.
