What's wrong with your S8? :P
m.ad to dvcsummar
26 Aug 17 #10
Whats wrong with it? I currently have an iphone 7 but do miss Android, but saying that, the 7 just works and works well. I switched from an iPhone 4 to a Galaxy S2 years ago and hated it, mainly due to the TouchWiz interface. From what people say about the latest Samsungs I thought things had changed?

Curious to know why. I have the S8 (not +) and loving it. Far above any phone I've owned (although tbf the last iPhone I had was 5), the camera and screen are the particular highlights for me. The S8 felt a bit narrow/long for me at first and I wished I'd got the S8+, but after a short time I really got to appreciate it - it's handling on one hand is perfect and you get a lot of real estate because of the screen resolution. I now think the S8+ would be too cumbersome, and know I'll be happy with my phone for a long time to come.

so, I was thinking, we restrict access of dangerous goods like knives and guns, we aren't allowed to take water through airport security, tobacco advertising is banned, and satnavs attached to your windscreen can be determined to be illegal or something if its placed somewhere that a police officer might personally consider a bad place but based on his judgement and not a pre defined list....

...however we are still able to buy a Samsung phone.

at least we are still allowed to live dangerously in one way, Samsung roulette.

Phone cost £533
4gb SIM only £10x24=£240
Total for this would be £773.

Why not just get the above deal then sell your iPhone?
CHUNGHO1 to niron_ev
26 Aug 17 #18
Don't you mean that the cost will be: Phone £689 + SIM contract £240 = £929?
Then you have to sell the iphone, which would have to be at least £136 (929-793) for it to be a deal.

If you work for one of the EPP Partners beware it is still cheaper to buy those phones as they provide 15% and you do not need to send iphone to them. An example screenshot below;

But if you don't have access to this, it might be worth it, however prices of the devices have been cheaper through Amazon IT etc...

These have been cropping up for about £500 from Amazon recently supplied and despatched by them directly.
You're paying more and having to give away your old iPhone that could sell on eBay for good money.
Amazon Italy have one in purple for just under £540 right now even:

If you want 0% just take out a 0% credit card.

Quoted the Samsung EPP program price of £586...( this is if your employer has a deal with Samsung to offer it's staff Samsung products at a reduced price, in the case of the S8, it's 15% off hence the £586 price in his pic)

The actual price to buy from Samsung's UK store is £689 as detailed in the pic below....

I know what you mean, I've had 5 chinese phones. Check back in with us after 12-15 months and see if it's still working how you expect it. Xiaomi are probably the best of the Chinese phones and I had one where the digitser just gave up after 12 months. Still cheap over 12 months but very annoying and inconvenient. Getting content off a phone you can't unlock as the screen doesn't work is also a challenge.

Mobiles.co.uk have a Samsung S8 for £75 upfront (minus £10 with NODRAMA10), and £34 pm with 16gb of data + minutes & texts. This totals to £881 over 2 years and comes with a free Samsung Gear VR headset..

Surely this mobiles.co.uk deal is better than £533 (and you've traded in an old iPhone) plus lowest priced high data sim only plan (£16 pm for 20gb with BT from the looks of it). This totals at £917 over 2 years..

Indeed. Regular price, can't understand why people voting hot - NOT A DEAL as can easily buy for same price without giving away old phone.
Had S8+ and wasn't happy with it, back to iPhone 7 Plus. I really don't like S8 fingerprint sensor on back-just worst of the worst I have seen and Iris scanner just piece of crap. Also don't like screen on S8 by its size. Too tall and even S8+ is not big enough for me; I like wider screen, not taller...

Hate these type of deals! Why just an iPhone? Obviously everyone has their own preferences on which phone is the best, but this makes it look like Samsung is desperate to get iPhone users on board. Personally, I would never switch back to Android, even if the Essential Phone and Note 8 do look appealing I must say.

Don't worry TOO much about an item being just outside it's warranty, as, with consumer law, an item still has 2B
A, Fit for purpose
B, Last a reasonable amount of time, and
C, Be of "Merchantable Quality"

Example...Item cost £600, and expected to last 5 years, but dies 1 rear 1 week later, so a week out of warranty, through no fault of yours....You will of had roughly £120 worth of use out of it, so you are down £? roughly £480.

Company will say "sorry, it's out of warranty", and it is , but you are still protected by law.

I THINK it's the manufacturer you need to contact after the warranty has expired, but I'm not sure.

Made the stupid decision to switch from an iphone 5C to a Samsung S7 Edge.
Wow - what a mistake. After the incompetent idiots at samsung took nearly 2 months to eventually replace the phone after they diddnt repair the faulty screen (it was in the midst of the Note 7 fiasco so they were concentrating on those) - in the meantime i had already bought an iPhone 7+ and dont regret it for a moment.

Was wondering how long the boring Samsung cat h fire jokes would take. Its all apple lovers have left in their locker due to pumping out the same old tech.Strange how Samsung now have the .ost regorius testing of batteries then any other phone company.Apple were quick to cover up faults with their devices and it's well documented about battery faults with the 7 just apple quickly cover up.Toyota had issues and it wouldn't put me off buying one of those unlike VW who are the same as apple and would fob people off with excuses like your holding it wrong.Do some research and see how many note 7 were confirmed in the UK of catching fire?

Wife took this deal this week (traded a 16gb iPhone 4 with shattered back).

S8 arrived quickly and was very quick to top up charge (came with 55% charge) - first experience of fast charge and impressed - topped up to 100% in the hr.

Instructions for returning old phone to them was clear as mud. Nothing on the package.

Samsung posted that out separately (arrived a couple of days later) - considering you have 7 days to send the phone to them following recipient - that is a bit naughty

Verdict - she loves the phone, been using a oneplus x for last 18 months and despite the increase in phone size (marginal), it has been an easy migration. Only taken a quick view of it myself but does look a good bit of kit. Camera very impressive.

My Pixel (also a hotukdeal) arrives tomorrow. Hopefully I will be as impressed as she has been.

Was looking at a new phone after having Sony Xperia Z3 Compact for years. Funny enough it still sold for £100 which went towards a deposit. Had an iPhone 4s 8GB with cracked screen to recycle. Seems like a good deal if you need a phone and don't want to part with £500+ straight away. Worked for me, voting HOT
soldierboy001
2 Sep 17 #144
So I was thinking that could be funny if it was anywhere near the truth, one faulty product, which no other company has had, makes it Samsung Roulette does it. Go sit in a dark room for a few years.
soldierboy001
2 Sep 17 #145
This is not a true trade in as you get the same deal whatever the phone you send in when if you sold seperatly you would get differeing levels of payment. Not saying it is a good deal for s4 owners but surely you would get more than £156 for ans S7?

Sorry I think you have mistaken me for an Apple fan, I hate Apples childish behaviour especially the holding it wrong part.
Samsung did try to cover up blaming it on the fact some batteries were 3rd party sourced and tried to blame it on them, the truth did come out that it was also Samsung batteries.

You ask me to do the research and find the confirmed number of phones in the UK that had battery issues, well Samsung never gave a number.
the clearest number I can give you is a US figure, within 1 month of launch almost 100 phones had been reported in the US.
Since Samsung never clarified the numbers and we take the figures to be roughly accurate then if in the us they sold approx. 2.5 million that was reported and 100 battery faults were reported in the first month then the chance was 1 in 25,000 that it was your phone. if you think that number is favourable remember that if they hadn't recalled it at that point the odds would have kept increasing as by recalling they stopped the number of reported cases increasing. but lets pretend that the odds would have stayed at that. there is a large portion of the population who believe that that's great odds. the lottery jackpot is 1 in 45,057,474, to get even just 5 numbers your chance is 1 in 144,415
I only quote the lottery odds to prove that according to the human mind many believe those odds are in their favour otherwise they wouldn't play it however you are 6 times more likely to buy a phone that could explode in the 1st month.

now if you want to do some research on numbers sold and numbers reported in the uk that's fine but seriously I doubt your ability.

Remember saying this?

Such a gem, yeah did you hear about windows, such a dud, while I don't like Xbox myself lets call that a dud too.
you seem like such a level headed guy.

So Apple are bad like VW (in this thread) and you seem to indicate you don't like that? and then you bought an iPad (in the other thread)?

Now we will see, I doubt my logic will be able to be absorbed by someone like you but miracles do happen, I'm not holding my breath as the odds you could comprehend logic aren't as good as the chances of an exploding s7.

Isn't it cheaper to get a new contract? My wife wants a new phone and top of this £19.99 per month she would have to get a sim and air time contract.
hopefully I have got this right.
Someone please clarify best optio
MarchinAlready
2 Sep 17 #152
I would say it would likely be on a par with getting the phone on contract (circa £32+ a month) BUT doing that would tie you in to a 2 year deal with both phone AND SIM.

No sense in that whatsoever as tariffs will change in price frequently in that 2 years so you could potentially tie yourself to a very uncompetitive deal

In the email is a reference number to track, go to the website and it will show what drop number you are and where the delivery driver is. This will give you a rough idea of time.

It might be worth hunting about for S7 deals.....

..... the S7 was (at release) one of the fastest smartphones, and even today is faster than most.

The S8 doesn't bring much to the party that the S7 hasn't already got. (The S7 camera was and still is great)

Any thoughts??

I'm SO confused with what to buy! My iPhone 6 has done its time. Running really slow. I like the look of the Samsung S8 but played on a demo in a shop & didn't love it. My OH also has a slow iPhone 6 & he's decided on the ONEPLUS 5. He's going to order in next few days (annoying that their student deal doesn't allow NUS though).
I do like the look of the Huawei P10 but have been told they are releasing a new one next month & tbh I normally like to play it safe & go for a well known brand... OPINIONS???
Thanks in advance

Does anyone know if you have to go through the uploading of your id bit after paying the deposit....i didn't do it because i hadn't got any id with me. Will the order still go through? Not had any email from Samsung confirming the order.
jsmith1
13 Sep 17 #228
what do you mean ID bit it didnt ask me.
if your credit application is processed you should get a couple of emails and a confirmation email from samsung.
You will then also get an order shipping confirmation from Samsung
in your original email you will get a link which you can check the status of the order

13 Sep 17 #229
After paying the deposit it went on to ask me to upload proof of id, a scan of passport or driving licence.

Just purchased this and got £16.14 TCB on top! Missed it last time due to the black colour being out of stock and not wanting any of the others.

For those wondering, it will ask you for the device model (including storage size) and IMEI of your iPhone when you purchase. Was not asked for any additional ID. Process took about three minutes - surprisingly fast! Emails with all finance documents come through straight away, as does confirmation from Samsung.

Confirmation email doesn't mention Gear VR :disappointed: , but fingers crossed it will be dispatched with my phone (S8 Midnight Black). Not sure if this is because of the colour. Previous comments only mention silver and blue colours.

Question for those who previously bought this and received a separate envelope for your iPhone - is there a document inside the envelope to identify it is from you, and does Samsung inform you that they have received your iPhone? Thanks!

EDIT: Quick update! Gear VR is in fact included with Midnight Black too. I have refreshed the order status page on Samsung website and it is now showing as "remaining to be shipped", despite not originally being on the order confirmation page or emails.

Dont do it - I jumped over to Samsung for an S7 Edge - Regretted it BIG time.

Samsungs tech repair support is no patch on Apples, you'll be waiting months for your handset to come back (no joke!)
Got fed up of waiting in the end and bought a new iPhone 7+. Definitely the right decision, you can keep your crappy Samsungs.

Enjoy your lack of support. Samsung are well known for abandoning phones usually after just a couple of OS version releases - and even then get the update a long time after they are released from android.
Apple are still supporting the iPhone 5S with updates - a device first released in 2013.

Oh did i mention device security and stability?
robdevil
17 Sep 17 #240
I've hot both apple and samsung device and also sony. Apple is in the drawer just in case I lose or damage other two. If apple had so many models as other brands they would never ever keep supporting old ones. Its so easy to do updates to only a few same looking similar hardware devices. Security in iPhone is same vurnelabke as in android. Both can be hacked. Only difference is iCloud can not be removed by external tools.
