Nobody wants to re-enact scenes from Jingle All the Way at Christmas, I still remember the trauma trying to get a Tracy Island & those awful hamster things a few years back! Thought this might be a great way of a) buying popular toys that may be oos nearer the time & b) spreading the cost to make Christmas a little less stressful & more manageable in terms of outlay in one go.
I've had a look at the offer & it really does seem very easy to do!
• Choose your items instore, go to checkout, tell the cashier you want to do a layaway. • They will give you a form to fill in.( it's not a credit check) • The cashier will scan all your items, you will have to pay 20% of the total on the day, plus a £5 administration fee. - not bad when you think that they are storing the items & what the cost of 3mths credit card interest would be! • Make additional payments at any time or pay your balance in full before your reservation term has ended.
There are 3 terms available for you to choose from – a 4 week, 8 week or 12 week reservation, if you choose 4 weeks, you pay 100% at week 4, 8 weeks, you pay 50% by week 4 & 100% by week 8, with 12 weeks, you pay 33% by 4 weeks, 66% by 8 weeks & 100% by week 12
It's not a credit or finance agreement, there's no credit check, no ID is required, it is so simple!
You can add anything to a layaway, including toys, items from Babies R Us, video games, games consoles. If you buy products on special offer, that will be the price you pay when you pick up your items.
I am really tempted by this, one of my girls wants a Nintendo Switch & I have been worried about stock issues, but with 3 significant birthdays in October, I have been reluctant to buy it now (plus by buying it outright now & putting it away, I effectively lose nearly 4mths warranty, this way, it would only be around 1 mths)
This can also be used at Babies R Us, so ideal to put away nursery furniture & bigger items until nearer the time with the added benefit of spreading the cost
Link goes to the offer details, will pop a few links to special offers below
is it worth putting the £5 charge in the title? Comes across as being "free", which isn't technically true.

Wow, what a scam. Five quid admin fee is out of order. Voted COLD.

Why is it out of order?
Credit cards will charge far more for that period of interest plus trying to hide 2 bikes, a trampoline, a nerf battle kart & go kart was a nightmare last year, had them all over the place, this way, shop stores them, you pick them up nearer the time

Why are people being so negative? Like what do you want? Someone to do your Christmas shopping for you? Wrap it all up for you? Open it for you on Christmas morning? Heck they could even take out all wrapping left on the floor and if your really lucky they will even eat your Christmas dinner for you. People complaining £5 is CRAZY!!!! Have fun paying the prices people will charge on eBay for the must have toy or explain why Santa didn't bring what they wanted. I think this is a good option for what has been pointed out, the must have toy or people who have more than 1 bike, go kart etc to hide with the little spare space they have. Stop hating, if this isn't for you move on plenty more too see.

Well next time your talking to Santa can you get him to double check the address he has on file for me. As its costing me a fortune buying the presents each year. Even all the time I spend wrapping, thats precious time I could be spending with my unicorn. Like really he needs to sort himself out.

Came here expecting this to be a terrible "give us your money incrementally now, and we'll give you credit at Christmas" type deal but in actuality the offer is very good! Even forgetting the comparison to a credit card (as 0% purchases are readily available just take a look on MSE) the fact that they will store these items for you for £5 is a bargain.
Definitely going to take advantage of this.

This isn't a comment on the deal as such, ( it could be hot or freezing depending on how much you intend to spend over what period of time) but how are they pretending this isn't finance (0% or not)?? If you "default" on a payment do they return all your money?

From T&C - Item isnt even guaranteed to be available
"The cancellation fee on all reservation contracts is £10.
If, when you make your final payment, we are unable to provide you with the merchandise specified in this reservation contract, you will receive a full refund of your deposit and all subsequent payments made under this contract except as provided by law."

I would think this is to cover there own back in case of worst case scenario like fire or theft of reserved stock that is unable to be sourced elsewhere.

And that helps the person who misses out on the presents for the kids how? "Don't worry Timmy, they'll even return the admin fee for the service they didn't provide. It's a Christmas miracle."

This is an awful concept - clearly designed to trap people who can't get decent amounts of credit in to buying stuff they can't yet afford.
If you can get decent credit - this is a stupid idea.
If you can't - save up, and save yourself at least a fiver. As noted above, this scheme doesn't even guarantee that you will get the stuff you're paying for.

It looks like you can't afford the items and it is a scheme designed to make you buy those items anyway. If you have enough disposable income available, just buy it outright, here and now and don't pretend it's hard to hide a _portable_ Nintendo Switch? Locker at work or something?

Sorry this is a cold from me . TRU are basically charging you a £5 for you to provide them with credit .
Worst thing of all is if you take out the longest payment term you are risking 66% of the value of goods plus £5 . If the worst was to happen and they go into administration you are an unsecured creditor and among one of the last to be paid out So even if you get the money back , its unlikely to be in time for Christmas .
We had a discussion about this at work the other week after a local paper run an adverstory about it . Plenty of people said stuff like "Christmas is the busiest period they wont go under" But with the growth in internet retail and the competitive deals in this period you can never say never
Me id rather save my money and do the Christmas shopping online at the last minute , the closer to Christmas the more competitive the deals become . With this scheme you are locked into the price you agree at the start of the scheme . So even if TRU are selling the toys at a discounted price to what you agreed you wont get that price .
