Picked this up a couple of weeks ago. Thought my £21 Sports and Movie package was good, Now just £16.50. Now if Talk Talk can do a deal with BT before the Ashes?

Incredible deal to get cheap Sky Sports! Though I believe I'm right in saying that there is no HD option, which is unfortunate! If you can live without HD, I doubt you'll get it any cheaper than this!

We have this offer too amazing deal for the price! Also I'm not sure if it's my eyes but it seems to be in HD quality as they sent an update to the Talktalk box and it's now clearer than the sky box when watching the cricket!

Perfect timing. My Sky TV contract ends in a week after declining the Sky customer retention team's best offer to stop me cancelling as It was more than my current deal so I will take up this offer as an existing TalkTalk customer instead. It makes sense as I rarely watched any Sky channels other than Sky Sports channels anyway and not having HD is no big issue for me. Shame it doesn't include Sky Sports News with the free TalkTalk TV box (live pause/rewind and 7-day catchup but no recording facility) option though. I will probably still opt for the free box as I already have a BT YouView+ box for recording Freeview channels and rarely need to record Sky Sports programmes anyway.

last time we let ours expire then the next day went to the "come back to sky" website. got everything minus sports and movies for £7 a month over 12 months AND £100 credited to our account. might be worth waiting to check. link for the previous deal (not sure if it's still on). hotukdeals.com/dea…986

My mom has talk talk, would it be possible for her to activate this offer and me to use it in a different address? She has a youview box but doesn't use it so I could use this, can it be used independently with a password or does it automatically detect you're a customer from your phoneline?

No. It doesn't just have to be a Talktalk line, but has to be the line that's subscribed to it. Openreach use Multicast for all the Youview IPTV channels. The line is configured to receive certain channels.
You need a router that supports IGMPv3. Sometimes the option might be labelled as IGMP Snooping/Multicast forwarding.

I would take this except last time I had a play with talktalk TV it would only work with the talktalk router (so swafe that would affect you trying to use it elsewhere I assume.) From what I've read it sounds like their router is more hackable - and anyway I have lots ot stuff tied into my netgear router (even though I do get my broadband from talktalk.)
Also wrt HD, in order to get sky sports with sky in HD you have to have the family\boxsets package before you're even allowed to add the sports hd pack so it costs a fortune. 22 quid more than original + sports in SD (before any % discounts you negotiate.)

Have been looking into this deal, and here is some info that might be useful:
Talk Talk TV is SD quality not HD (but then so is Sky's basic offering)
Talk Talk TV comes with a free TV Lite Box, however the website now mentions a "Flash Sale - FREE TV Plus Box (worth £50)"
The Talk Talk TV boxes do not have wi-fi, and so need to be connected to the router using a ethernet cable (or get some powerline adaptors).
The Sky Sports Boost does not include Sky Sports Mix or Sky Sports News.
The Sky Sports Boost cost is £8.50 a month for 18 months, however you can cancel this boost at any time - "no long-term commitment".

I just asked a few follow up questions on the account web chat: the TV box is connected via Ethernet cables, this would be inconvenient as the router and main TV are in different rooms. TalkTalk do sell a pair of power line adaptors for £20 (these seem to take Ethernet rather than USB cables at both ends). The basic box is free and does not require the Starter TV package (I can't think that we would ever watch them) so it is possible to take just the Sky Sport bundle at £8.50/month with no extra costs on top of the existing broadband package.
We don't use the supplied TalkTalk router, but our Netgear one should work fine with the TV box.
This seems like a good deal if one needs Sky Sports - I suppose I have to decide whether we do or not now.

As I mentioned above when I had a play with the talktalk box (albeit a while back) it wouldn't work with my netgear router - only the talktalk one.

I had to sort a neighbour's talktalk TV problems out many years ago. It turns out TV over the internet requires the router to be able to handle IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) services. The firmware in her very old router was not able to handle IPTV. Most modern routers and firmware will have the correct settings already enabled. You would be very unlucky to have problems today.

Oh thanks for that Cooltide. I thought I had a pretty modern router at the time - and can certainly watch TV over the internet now via amazon firestick etc. But definitely sounds like I should give it another go ...

This offer can be a great negotiation piece with Sky to get your bill down. Keep an eye out for their £28 all in deal too, great example to give to Sky to "cancel" and then get a great discount.

The picture quality of SD is poor on Sky I wouldn't be surprised if they were broadcasting in lower than normal resolution to make you buy the HD. They're so greedy, you're already paying your subscription then they've got the cheek to say extra money for HD and even more extra money if I want to watch on Console. I switched Sky Sports off on Sky for this offer I was paying £16.50 and that was with 40% off. There was a Groupon for half price BT Sport on Sky box making it £11.50 if you want to look for that as I got that too.

The frustrating thing is my sky contract isn't up for a few months and sky won't entertain discussing a new contract offer now. So talktalks deal runs out in a few days and sky may or may not offer me a good deal in November. I suppose I could trial the talktalk offering and drop sports off my sky package only if the picture is up to scratch (can anyone tell me how it compares to sky's SD offering ? Any buffering issues ?)

Got the Sports Bundle today and think that Talk Talk are selling themselves short by calling the picture quality SD, as it's almost on par with that of the NOW TV service which is sold as 720P HD.
Seen a couple of buffering events, but other than that the feed seems to be rock solid (even though my box is currently connected to the router by some ancient powerline adaptors).
The Talk Talk box also does subtitles for these sports channels and includes apps for Netflix and UKTV Play, unlike the NOW TV box.

I have a 2011 Netgear DGN2200 router and theres no mention of multicast or IGMPv3 in the manual so I've relunctantly come to the conclusion that it won't work with the talktalk tv box. (if anyone knows where I should be looking in the router login page to know for sure that would be great)

If you go for TV Plus box then i presume they can be recorded. I only have the standard TV box and they definitely show in the EPG. Standard box allows you to pause/rewind up to 30 mins.

After more research my router definitely doesn't support this multicast functionality and don't want to use the talktalk one - sounds like its security is weak like talktalk in general. So deal is dead for me, shame....
