I went for the Philips. For the price difference between the two, the Philips seemed a better value for the £90~ difference. From the DisplaySpecifications site and comparing the two, this looks to have a VA display and is edge-lit LED compared to the Philips' IPS display and direct-LED.

Argos also have a Samsung for £602 after voucher code. About £28 more than Philips. I'm undecided. I've ordered the Philips but my brother says Samsung is better. Anyone got any views?

Looking to that TV, it looks like it's actually a 55MU6100, probably just rebadged as 6120 for Argos only. It has an extra input here and there, but not a big step up from what I can see on the DisplaySpecifications compare page. The Philips is also A+ energy rated, compared to the Samsung's A rating if that matters to you.
Also, the Samsung is a PLS display, which is basically Samsung's name for their IPS. VA displays are good all around but not at all for gaming due to their long response times (from what I can understand here). For me, £90 extra to see deeper blacks or brighter whites isn't a priority for me, but it depends on what you want out of your TV I guess. The Samsung linked above also looks to be an 8-bit panel, not a 10.

The higher spec model is only £50 more before discount on Argos. That seems to be a better deal?

On closer look, the only difference between the 7002 and 7073 is the motionflow (100 Vs 400). Does anyone know how much the difference is?
Edit#2 I picked one up from local Argos, so far I'm happy. The brightness looks uniform and no obvious motion lag.

That is true, IPS is better for viewing angles and no worse for bright-room viewing, but its picture quality is generally still worse due to bad contrast ratios.

I've also widely heard from people about that Samsung that a problem is motion, although for others, they can't notice a problem, so it may depend.
But a larger issue is that the MU6100 seems to have an 8-bit panel with no dithering whatsoever like other TVs in this price range instead of a 10-bit panel.
This is hard to say for sure. The US version of this TV seems to have a VA panel and is capable of 10-bit colour depth.
One thing for sure though, is that it is useless for HDR content.
I'd rather wait for much better TVs to drop in price in the coming months as they are overpriced now, though you can still a better TV near this price.
Can you tell me if this model also has the discount code working on it please, I don't have an Argos account and getting to payment screen seems hard work!

I would always go for a Sony as it has an Android platform, allowing you to install Kodi, Mobdro, Showbox etc. Why pay for TV when you can watch for free using Andriod Applicaitons.

U don't side load. The tv has android os So you install as per any android device via the play store.

It runs AndroidTV as the OS, which is compatible with standard android but is a different OS with its own curated play store that you wont find may apps in. You can sideload other android apps if you have the .apk, using ES filemanager is probably the easiest method. Its hit and miss on how these will work as most expect a touch screen but if you have a wireless mouse/keyboard combo its not too bad.

I have one matey. Loads of apps and no need to sideload anything in terms of kodi. I wouldn't recommend this particular model though, reflection is terrible and lots of light bleed. Wait for XE9005 to drop which is compared to OLED.

Well "matey", how did you add mobdro and showbox like asked by h0thead? i sideloaded them since they aren't in the play store since they breach the store terms and conditions. There aren't really that many apps on the AndroidTV version of the play store, its widely seen as a weakness of the OS by most users.

I bought this model on Friday:Sony KD55XE7002BU 55 Inch Smart 4K UHD TV with HDR If you have links to a discount shop through your work or something, you could get vouchers and get an extra 7.5% off. I went into Curry's to view the televisions side by side and I found the following:
LG = very dark Samsung = picture not very sharp Sony = very sharp and bright pictures in comparison to the others
Sorry, I didn't see the Philips o compare.
I have tried the following so far:
Used the WIFI for streaming and using the shortcut buttons for Netflix & Youtube, no issues, very quick and no connection issues so far.
I ran 4k videos from Youtube, I was blown away with the picture quality.
This television replaced my old Sony Bravia, the sound is much improved. It only has two 10w speakers, but the sound enhancement means I no longer have an issue when viewing Netflix, the sound used to be very quiet, but now the volume stays loud. I haven't had to use my sound bar yet.
I ran some movies from my android box and the picture was amazing again, it does depend on the quality of the movie your viewing too.
I will be trying it on my Playstation 4 sometime this week, I will update and let you know of ay lag issues if there are any. The price tag on OLED is still huge, but the quality is breathtaking, maybe one day I will be able to afford one, but until then, this television is outstanding.

The television is true 4k and what's better is the technology:

This television is: Up to 3840x2160/60p 10bit
I haven't tried an SD card yet, I will let you know, but I really don't see there being an issue. The television has a $GB hard drive and you can attach an external drive up to 2TB to record channels.
FRC is also used to enhance the colour depth of 8-bit panels, boosting them from their standard 16.7 million colours to 1.07 billion in the case of "10-bit" panels (8-bit + FRC).

Anyone know if its worth spending the extra £50 on the next model up? Only seems to be motion rate that changes from 100Hz to 400Hz. I watch a lot of sports and have the PS4 connected so will the extra 300Hz benefit me?
