Is this food grade? i use it with my cake decorating and wouldn't want to poison anyone!

How can a toxic alcohol be food safe? I know nothing about sugarcraft so perhaps you can enlighten me why you might want to use isopropyl rather than ethanol?
I don't know why it's preferred to ethanol in the sugarcraft world, but I've been using the food grade isopropyl for years and if you go to any cake shop etc and also look at the online stores it's mostly food grade isopropyl that's used. You add it to lustre dusts etc to turn it into a paint, so when the alcohol evaporates the dust is left where you painted it
The cake craft type branded ones cost a couple of pounds for 14mls, so if it's food grade and costs less that would be great but unless it says food grade somewhere I'll keep it well away from my cakes
That link explains all, thanks  So 99% ethanol would be just as good, but the nanny state won't let people buy it without a licence.

Should be, well I've used Isopropyl to clean screens for years and never had any issues.

Voted hot. This stuff seems to what I need to get the car windscreen clean. On a more somber note! Reminds me of an incident where a friend's brother and a few of his friends got hold of some pharmaceutical alcohol, drank it and at least two of them ended up killing themselves in the process.

Maybe that was pre-brexit and in the 3 bottles for a pound isle in poundland, next to the fizzy drinks tins.
Thats the ingredients. SS also known as Rubbing Alcohol.

I don't think it's really the same, the US "rubbing alcohol" is specifically isopropyl alcohol, whereas the British "surgical spirit" uses methylated spirit, which is ethanol denatured with methanol.

One of the great uses which I don't think anyone has mentioned is wiping permenatnt pen marks. e.g. for those times when you use a Sharpie on whiteboard and everyone in the office hates you.

Quick fix, go over the Sharpies writing with the whiteboard pen, let dry, rub off. So to speak!

Somebody's making a lot of profit! darrantchemicals.co.uk/iso…wcB Or club together! ebay.co.uk/itm…726 I used to use tons (literally) of this stuff everyday. Used to cost pence per litre, but I think tax is involved for domestic use. As far as I know it's the active ingredient in screenwash-certainly smells like it- I think they get a lot of it from discards from chemical/pharmaceutical industry.

Will this get rid of the smell in my automobiles washer bottle? There seems to be some green/ black gunk in it which I would presume is mould.
xp2500 to 666FU
30 Aug 17#31
I think you can use a small amount of bleach then fill the rest with water then empty the bottle by disconnecting the hose or running the washers. Repeat until smell is gone
Segata-Sanshiro to xp2500
30 Aug 17#39
Is that ok if the hose is rubber, i thought bleach caused rubber to perish?
compadre to Segata-Sanshiro
30 Aug 17#41
I don't think you would have any problem. Use only a mixture of bleach and water, leave it for an hour or so and then drain. Probably best to drain with out using the washers as if the gunk is thick enough it may float off and block your jets. If still bothered by smell, use white vinegar (not white wine vinegar) it may be called spirit vinegar. Again a mixture with water, and then put it through the jets. Great stuff white vinegar for getting rid of nasty niffs. Put it in a spray bottle (fine spray) and try it on anything smelly. Once your washer bottle is clean standard screenwash should keep it sanitised.

I buy the same brand but 5L @ about £18 from Amazon - so not sure this is such a great deal. Sorry OP.
I use it to make record cleaning mixture, in case people wonder what I need 5L at a time for. Makes up 20% of the mix (along with the excellent deal on here for deionised water from Eurocarparts) and is enough for 1,000 or so records
Edit: Actually about 3,000 records (quick recalc in my head - I'm on my second 5L bottle)

I don't understand how they can ship at that price. It costs me £15 to ship a few grams of non-hazardous solid chemicals rather than a litre of flammable liquid. Clearly not done according to regs.

Nothing to see here. My company is. A manufacturer which uses tonnes at a time. We don't sell online but do so for callers at the door. In fairness, the price has rocketed in recent months but, if you contact a local company, chances are they will beat this.
So it's probably a deal if your interest is in something cheaper than you can buy elsewhere online. If you actually happen to want ipa, you probably know where to get it cheaper already.
