Quick heads up, if you know someone who has access to a blue light account (NHS discounts) you can get this for £35

I've just bought a compatible phone (Note 7 FE!) - are these just glorified cardboard devices or do they have a use/wow factor above this?

£12 for a type c converter is a little steep. I bought a pack of convertors for less than £5 off Amazon - maybe this is worth a post itself!

Anyone have any tips with how to deal with overheating issues? I have the s6 and after a bit of use.... It overheats!

Thanks for this, been keeping an eye out on Gumtree for a cheap one after I sold my Oculus Rift DK2, but this is even cheaper than a second hand unit, ordered!

I have one and they are great, not comparable to the cheaper £20 options you can get from gadget shops or those cardboard options. I've tried loads & this is the best you can get for a mobile before moving onto console headsets. The quality of the lens, the viewing angles are calibrated better and it keeps the light out better. The whole thing feels more solid and it interfaces with your phone without needing additional batteries it runs off the phones power.
Some pointers based on questions I spotted :-
- works fine with s8
- adapters needed for USB C are special ones specific to the gearVR
- the VR2 doesn't come with the new gear vr controller (which is really good)
- has built in touchpad on headset to control onscreen with buttons for back, menu and volume etc (ok for general browsing and watching vid & Netflix not the best for gaming so recommend getting a Bluetooth controller)
- can make you a bit nauseous/sick first couple of times you use it like with the playstationVR, but after a few more short uses you brain adjusts and copes with the disorientation.
- ok for games haven't played anything amazing yet, but I only play free games,might be some decent ones to pay for, but I use mine for watching downloaded movies, YouTube & Netflix, feels like your in a cinema (headphones on lying on your back in bed you can watch movies without waking up the other half lol)
- runs oculus store automatically when you plug phone in, which has a greater range of dedicated apps for vr than just google cardboard.


Hopes this helps, their cool but not life changing. I'm after the new official Samsung gear controller that comes with the latest version of the headset if anyone knows any deals? The cheapest I've seen is £35 (just for the controller) happy to buy direct if someone has one the don't want/use .

At first glance, the stable of games available for the Samsung Gear VR seem modest compared to Steam. But what if you could play PC games with your Samsung Gear VR? Wouldn’t that be cool? Well you can.

You will need a few things to get it working though. You will obviously need a Samsung Gear VR, but you will also need a PC with an Nvidia graphics card compatible with Nvidia Shield GameStream, an app called SideloadVR and Wi-Fi set up on your PC with your cell phone connected to it.

Play PC games with your Samsung Gear VR
GameStream is Nvidia’s streaming service that can play games on a TV or SHIELD tablet. Most recent graphics cards are compatible as GameStream is part of the GeForce experience. As long as you have a compatible GPU and are using the latest Nvidia drivers, you should be good to go.

1. Download and install SideloadVR onto your Galaxy device.

2. Select Signature setup and copy the ID of the device and follow the steps in the SideloadVR setup wizard.
It may take a couple of attempts to get this right but you should end up with a working app store within SideloadVR.

3. Install the Stream Theater app from within the SideloadVR app store.
Perform a search within SideloadVR and install Stream Theater. Let the app install into Gear VR.

4. Type your PC’s IP address when prompted by Stream Theater.
Type ‘ipconfig /all’ on your PC to get your IPv4 address. Stream Theater will then give you a four digit PIN.

5. Start the GeForce Experience app on your PC and add the four digit PIN into the SHIELD part of the Experience app.

6. Select a game to stream to your Samsung Gear VR and select a scene to play in.
You can play in 2D by using the Theater modes or in (mostly) 3D in VR mode. You may have to manually add games to SHIELD, just select the ‘+’ and navigate to the executable to add.

Not all games play nicely with this setup but you can experiment to see which works for you. Elite Dangerous works as I play it myself. You can even set it up for head tracking too!

Hey! Serious question... I googled if you could run this with PC games... and apparently you can use Nvidia streaming (moonlight might work too?)

Unfortunately I only have a 750ti Nvidia card. I upgraded to an RX470.

Could I use my RX470 for playing the games and then the Nvidia for streaming it?

And if so, what could you do/play with this combination?

i spoke to samsung via live chat and they said that there is a connector included that you can swap out to use USB C for the s8. The only thing i would say (ive researched it a lot) is that the s6 and 7 do heat up a little because of the processing power needed from the CPU on the phone. That being said - it works fine.
I was tempted by some of the cheaper non branded variants but after watching and reading lots of reviews - i think the sensor and light seal around the samsung one is better so its smoother and less light leakage.(oh and more comfortable)
Looking forward to trying to out soon because this is my first time using one (apart from some cheap one my brother in law got from ebay which didnt seem built that well)
I've downloaded a few films to watch and theyre pretty big so time to look for a cheap deal on a microSD card !

thanks for posting heat added i have the original and it was great now i have the psvr i use that more often the samsung vr is a great introduction to virtual reality so would recommend it to anyone that has a compatible phone.
