Have a Galaxy Tab S 10.5, which is a year older than this. Similar power and specs but a 10.5 inch wide screen. With SD card and Netflix HD support it is a perfect tablet for holidays to load up with Netflix and Amazon Video downloads. AMOLED screen quality is amazing with perfect blacks, something no iPad can claim. Understand iPads have more specific tablet software but if all you want to do is browse the Web and watch video this will be a better option than most.

Whilst I totally prefer Android phones to iPhones (HTC U11 user currently), I just can't understand why anyone would buy this over a similarly priced iPad. iPad is the king of tablets, it truly is.

This comment makes no sense. It's like saying "I prefer apples over bananas but I just can't understand why people would eat apples when bananas are so bendy."

No it isn't, that's a ridiculous retort.
What I mean is if you only have £35 to spend on a Fire tablet, or £99 for a Lenovo, then fair enough, Android tablets are 'okay'. But at £300, you can buy the real deal.
The reason I mentioned that I use HTC phones was to demonstrate that I'm not an 'iSheep', but when it comes to tablets nothing truly competes with iPad.
I have owned a Tab S, and I currently also have a Tab A (supplied by work). I have had a few other Android tablets too previously, Lenovo etc.
i kinda want them to be better than an iPad, but they really aren't.

Have you got or tried the new similar priced ipad?? Nothing like the older better made Air's or Pro's (add £200 approx to the price)that are probably the best tablets out there (and this also coming from non "isheep" as you put it).

So you are comparing that budget Tab A with an iPad that costs double, at least? Cool story bro.

I'm talking about the user experience and functionality of iOS vs Android on a tablet.
Yes of course my iPad Pro has better sound than the Tab A for example, but that's not the point I'm making.
£300 is way too much for an Android tablet.
For a more balanced comparison, I had the Tab S and the Air 2 at the same time - for starters the Air 2 had about 2-3 times the battery life...

Just to demonstrate that it's pretty much a fact, rather than simply my opinion;

Still waiting for you to make a relevant point other than whining how the expensive iPad is better than the Android tablet that launched 4 years ago. Well done on that observation.

My comparison was this at £300, or the latest 'standard' iPad at £339 (plenty of places selling for less).
Techradar say it's the best tablet on the planet (they are of course factoring in the cost because obviously a Pro is better again, but as you rightly say, is twice the price). I'm sure most other sites/mags would agree, but I just used Techradar as an example.
The Tab A I have was launched in 2016, which wasn't 4 years ago (10.1).
I have owned several Android tablets (including a Nexus 9 btw) and they are simply not as good.
The way I see it is others will make the same mistake I did - trawl through a load of Android tablets and finally realise that they should have invested in an iPad to begin with.
Believe it or not, I am just trying share the benefit of my experience.

Yeah, there really is no better tablet experience than being completely locked-in to having only software and apps that Apple want you to install on a device you've paid for and own.

I was honestly of this mind set, having used Android smartphones since 2008/2009 or so, and being a bit of an iPhone 'hater'.
In reality, the ONLY issue I have ever had with iPads in this regard is that it's tricky to install Kodi, that is literally the only app or function I have ever found 'missing', and it can actually be installed with a little bit of fiddling around anyway.
That one drawback is easily outweighed by all of the positives though.

OK ezzer72 you've made your point. People took the bait and off we go on another interminable debate about apple vs everyone else. As someone in the market for a premium android tablet to replace my 16gb Nexus 9, i'm interested in the relative merits of this deal and its android competition.. I fancy a Tab S3 but they cost silly money but £299 for a Tab S2 looks a good deal to me. Hot.

I went from the Nexus 9 to the Tab S2. The tab S2 is everything the Nexus 9 should have been. That extra 1GB of RAM makes ALL the difference. The tab S2 isn't that fast but everything happens at exactly the same speed.

For the majority of tablet users you are probably right ezzer. For some though, iOS is way too restrictive which makes this a good buy.

Well damn.....didn't know these topics can still get this heated, why not let everyone have what they want, each to their own....if they enjoy Android tablets, fair enough, if they enjoy Ipads then fair enough too.
I have been looking for a tablet trying to decide what to get, and without an inclination to either side heres how I see it. The regular Ipad 9.7" compared to the this S2 at this price point is a shitty deal....the display is not as good, they removed the LCD lamination leaving for a stupid depth gap that you can notice, the S2 tab has a pretty damn nice display, also room for expansion of the memory....which in the case of the 128gb Ipad costs like frickin £430 so already you are in completely different price brackets.
Now the Ipad on the other hand has a much better battery, the only reason I havent pulled the trigger on the S2 aswell is because who on earth puts a shitty 5900 or something Mah battery in a tab with a display with this kind of res.....but I suppose thats the tradeoff at this price point.
I would really like to get the Ipad pro for the benefits of the better battery and the display being how it should be.....but I don't want to pay an extortionate amount just to get the 256gb model...where 64gb still isn't the right amount tbh.....been searching for tablets for a week now, and I think I have given up, because there is no "perfect" tablet or "the best tablet in the world" right now, not at a reasonable price anyway.....getting to the point where I'll just get some stupid budget tablet for like 250 or something around there. Unless one of you guys can point me to a good deal on either another android tab or an Ipad deal....which would be much appreciated.

This is kind of the point I was addressing, like I said I've tried many of the seemingly better value alternatives, before finally accepting it has to be an iPad - I certainly wouldn't waste £250 or so on a tablet you won't be happy with.
I can't understand why the 'gap depth' would be an issue to you on the current iPad, I haven't actually handled one, but can't imagine it's a deal breaker.
Why don't you try and find an A1 condition used iPad Air 2 for around £250? I truly think this would be your best option.

Did anyone notice how Samsung manufactured 7", 8", 8.4", 10.1" screen models.

The Tab S2 is available in both 8 & 9.7-inch sizes. They still offer tablets in 10.1 and 7 inches. It's a shame you have such a chip on your shoulder, but if yuou are going there, I wonder where Apple got the idea for their iPad Mini?
