Samsung Galaxy S8 PLUS for £619 from Giffgaff - fully unlocked and UK model
Not quite as cheap as the eglobal deals and such but UK retailer and consumer protection is worth the bit extra. this is £779 at carphonewarehouse for example
potentially £45 TCB if purchased with a new sim+activated

Samsung's are generally poor with their ram management and performance but 6gb is unnecessary.
Clean android or Sony is the way to go.

Samsung has come a long way, despite using TouchWiz.
Definitely not as bloated or as bogged down as it once was.

If only it was a dual SIM variant. Anyway, still cheaper than the Samsung EPP prices.

If you haven't got a giffgaff SIM then you will need to purchase a goody bag which will be £10, but you will only need to do this for the first month so it is still a good deal

still a better deal on mobiles.co.uk for £199 and £29 p/m and you get free VR worth £70 on ebay if you dont want it ....4Gb, unlimited, unlimited
adamspencer95 to johndavies1
31 Aug 17#20
sure, because £895 is less than £619....
johndavies1 to adamspencer95
31 Aug 17#21
suppose you could just look at it for 2 years ...after all its a nice lookin phone
johndavies1
31 Aug 17#22
so if you say a decent price for 4Gb data , unllimited calls and text is £10 pm .....then add £70 for free VR (on ebay) then that's worth £310 over two year ....£310 off £895 = £585 ...BETTER DEAL IMO
termite to johndavies1

The data plan is pointless with this type of phone, buying it free of tie is a much better option.
adamspencer95 to johndavies1
1 Sep 17#32
the vr is realistically worth about £30 on ebay so still seems worse by my reckoning:
10pm x 24 = 240
895 - 240 = 655
vr = £30
= 625 all in for your deal if you want the vr which most people wont
johndavies1 to adamspencer95

BTW this is the 2017 VR with controller so fetching around £70 on ebay

The warranty is not international it's region based. An Asian market phone can only be covered in Asia. I know because I unwittingly bought a galaxy s3 Singapore handset a few years ago and when it went wrong I was told by Samsung UK I would have to contact Samsung Singapore. Any official European phone is covered under European warranty. My last handset was from giff gaff no issues at all

You could check in the menus about the software version on the phone and then search that version online, but I guess mainly stock has not got the service providers "splash" screen on startup and also does not come with the extra apps the service provider puts on there (my Three Galaxy S5 is not too bad, but my works Note 4 has loads of Vodafone c**p on there).

adamspencer95
4 Sep 17#75
The 'S' series is usually announced in Feb/March and released in March/April, at least since the S6 so its not exactly far off the mark assuming a Jan announcement and a February release
its still over 4 months away, at which point a note 9 will probably be only 6 months away - why not wait for that?

Got to say I received the phone yesterday and am loving it so far (upgraded from my 3.5 year old Galaxy S5).
It's cost me a fair bit more than the £629 as bought a 128gb memory card (£40), case (£7), screen protector (£12) and a couple of USB C cables (£10).
I really like the new TouchWiz and may stick with it for a while to see how I get on as I normally use Nova Launcher, but some of the reviews say there are issues with the S8 (the only thing I'm really missing is the icon pack I bought which does not work with TouchWiz. :disappointed:

I guess it's worth it if you can get a decent amount for your old phone, but it's only really the screen that's an upgrade (although I like to have the biggest screen I can comfortably handle and this I think is the one).

how is the customer service on giffgaff for example if i have a problem with the phone, is it easy to return for exchange?
I didn't see this deal as i got the s8 plus from amazon for £688 (seller is amazon and not some third party) as i dont have giffgaff the total will be £629 compared to the £688 i already paid. The phone hasn't yet been dispatched so i could cancel it.
I was wondering if the £60 was worthing paying extra just in case as amazon customer service is quite good.
