Was looking for a deal with at least 5GB data and under £30 a month. Cracking deal on Mobiles.co.uk
Use code S8PAYDAY to take £155 off the upfront cost of £240 bringing it down to £85. Gear VR included too. Tried stacking other codes - noluck

I just got a retention deal from EE - £31.99 a month, no upfront cost and 15GB EE Max plan but sadly no VR or Dex. I did ask for it but I was told No :relaxed:
This deal is probably better though with free Gear VR if 5GB of data is enough. I wish I had seen this before :disappointed:

After a brief phone call to Voda last month to get the costs down for this phone were; A: wait until month end pay day deals. B: wait until sept for the Note 8 launch.

I got this phone a few weeks ago on an EE retention deal. Apart from it having a gorgeous screen and being lightning fast, the camera is it's strongest point for me. We had an S7 in the house and a Huawei P8. The camera on the P8 was far superior to the S7 so I wasn't expecting that much of an upgrade on the S8. But it's truly stunning compared with anything we've had before on a phone. Make good use of the camera/vid if you go for it - you won't be disappointed.

30 Aug 17#54
Looks like £50 on eBay is most likely right now so just under £40 after fees and shipping.
4gb can be had for £6-7 with unlimited calls and texts quite a bit on hukd mostly with three. I'll say £8 to be generous. (24*8 = £192)
£756 - (£40+£192) = £524
You're getting the phone for £524 effectively, less if you value the contract or headset more. You're getting 24 months interest free credit on the phone too. (You're stuck in a 2 year contract on the flipside of that though)
Overall you could buy the phone for a similar price from Amazon Italy on a 0% purchases card and do a 12 month SIMO, but it's a bit more work for little return. Plus you can choose any colour on this deal rather than whatever happens to be the cheapest on Amazon.

Vodafone retention couldn't even come close to this price for me, so I kicked them into touch.
One annoying thing with mobiles.co.uk is that you have to complete transaction over phone if you've had more than 2 addresses in past 3 years (which means you won't get cashback from Quidco)
itr786
30 Aug 17#83
So to clear up what I've got is...
+ Galaxy s8 (black) + Free upfront handset (quidco (which has already tracked) & selling the VR set should cover the £85 + Unlimited minutes + Unlimited text + 5gb (4g) EE data
All for £27.99 per month (2 year contract)

The customer service lady from ee claimed they can't transfer my phone number from my current sim to the new one!?..., so will need to use a brand new number!?
I imagine there's a lot of people that have been in my shoes... Is there a solution?

Go get a pay as you go SIM card from another network, port your original number

Get a free or cheap pay as you go sim from another provider and port your number to that. Then once that has completed just port it back. I haven't needed to do this but shouldn't be a problem. Just a word of warning. Mobiles.co.uk aren't the most reputable company, and have appalling customer service. Should you have any problems, your only point of conversation is a 1-way contact-us form as their customer service email is a no-reply email address. Incredibly difficult to have a conversation with that. They ask for proof, yet provide no way of sending it. Refuse to give an email address and ask that screenshots be sent to them via facebook/twitter (where they don't accept your friend request) or royal mail tracked delivery.
Have had to fight with them recently due to them attempting to scam me, recouped the money via Vodafone in the end after being lied to and threatened with false legal ramifications which I called them out on.
The most I got out of mobiles.co.uk was a nice Irish lady who rang me up telling me she was a manager, and to shout at me down the phone and refuse to listen to anything I had to say, basically trying to scare me off. When challenged, had the phone hung up on me. She seemed very shocked that I wasn't cowed by the tirade, giving me the feeling this was just another tactic in the long line of them.
Absolutely appalling treatment. It takes a lot to make my lazy ass fight instead of just writing it off, but these guys pulled it off.

Screen aspect ratio is not good and not with an industry standard, theverge.com/201…dge that may be the reason price is going down. People don't want to buy stretchy screen. Previously 3 lines of message would be now 9 lines now.
tinky13
30 Aug 17#149
Wrong. It's not like they made it narrower. They made it longer, allowing for on screen buttons. Your statement about 9 lines is incorrect, it will still be 3 lines. You can fit more lines on the longer screen before you need to scroll.

30 Aug 17#150
Lol you have no idea what you're talking about if a tiny change in aspect ratio means it's a "sketchy screen"

30 Aug 17#152
I just compared with note 3 phonearena.com/pho…311 definitely its narrower by 1 cm by body size and believe screen also narrower in width.

30 Aug 17#153
I'll update the deal in a bit. Tried adding AUGPAY10 to knock a tenner off but looks like they only accept one voucher at a time. Even with £100 still a good deal I personally think.
tinky13
30 Aug 17#154
It is narrower by 8.9mm. Half of it or even more will be taken by bezels on Note 3, so we are talking what, 4mm difference maximum? Note series has (used to have) different form factor allowing for writing using the s-pen. It's changed with N7 and N8 where it's more like Galaxy series now hence people choosing not too pay the premium for the Note.

Guys, I take it the company has a returns/ cooling down period?.. How good is this company with returns? I think I've had enough time to think it over, and decide I'm better off staying as I am. Having a sim only contract, and keeping my xiaomi Redmi Note 3 pro. It works out far cheaper. The only downfall is the (not so good) camera.

Finally!!!!!
Some truth to the matter.
Do not get me wrong. This phone is absolutely beautiful and one of the best looking mobiles ever made.
But creating a whole new aspect ratio is asking for trouble.
You are reliant on all the android app developers optimizing the apps for the Samsung 2017 18:9 ratio or whatever it is.
Video content is 16:9 for the most part and will continue to be. Youtube or other video companies won't be creating tv series, movies or video content for this phone so you will more than likely have black bars unless panning in and losing some video outline.
I'm not going for any phones that muddle the AR ratio as it leaves you in uncertainty of whether your favourite apps and video will be updated for this ratio.
Great phone without a shadow of a doubt, but people need to know that by making the phone taller and not as wide to accommodate 16:9 it could make for some weird visuals.
Heat for this deal as it was seriously good value. I won't be biting but appreciate all the helpful info the OP has put in and the posters in the thread.

Direct with EE retentions. To be honest I had to do quite a lot of haggling mentioning mobilephonedirect Three contract for £36 a month with 30G of data. Also had a £6 loyalty discount. Normally they would apply if you have been with them for few years.

£450 for a Oneplus 5, plus £10pm (£240) minimum for a half decent simo contract. The gap between the flagship and the flagship killer is closing, so I reckon if you prefer the Samsung, what's an extra £100 over 2 years.
I can't login to this website, when requesting the Id number, I still can't login, now retinitis to ring them (off what looks like a premium rate number) lines are busy!..

Hi, I'm a total idiot when it comes to the phone upgrade. Is it possible for someone to tell me what to do to try and get a good upgrade deal on ee for the galaxy s8?

For the life of me I can't remember registering, and now that I've purchased the phone, and before having it delivered realised I'd made a mistake and return it as soon as I get delivery.

Still haven't decided if to buy it of this site or to accept the deal I got offered by Vodafone today.
£39 a month for Unlimited calls & texts plus 16gb data and £10 upfront cost for two years.
Reason why I haven't bought the deal on that site is I haven't used them before or heard of them, so not sure how reliable they are compared to the Network companies.

For whats its worth, 10 days later, ive cancelled.
Thought it wasnt much of an upgrade from the S7 Edge and i hate commitment to a 2 year term when I'm currently now on a decent SIMO deal with Three, who for all their shit CS, arent bad coverage and speedwise plus Feel At Home is great. Not knowing what EE are like is a concern.
Called mobiles.co.uk, fairly easy, they even offered free 1 month line rental and and an extra £20 to keep me on, so worth a try if you can be arsed.
Gonna wait for the price to come down on the handset itself to buy it outright, or wait for the S9 which should be more worthy of an upgrade come release date.

Did you already open the phone box? Did they ask if it was opened? What about the vr headset? Did they ask you if it was opened? I might try this myself.

6 Sep 17#214
Did you already open the phone box?
Yes, as neatly as i could (not tearing) i also got as far as charging it and switching it on, connecting the wifi and having a little go on it. I left the screen and handset protectors on though so it looks pristine still.
Did they ask if it was opened?
yeah they asked if it was opened
What about the vr headset?
i didnt open this, i tried selling on ebay for the £85 but was only getting offers of £60-£65, didnt sell it anyway so itwent back with the handset.
Did they ask you if it was opened?
Nah they only asked for it to be included, i think you could sent it back opened as long as its not been used to an extent it looks scruffy and not resaleable.

so...I told a few people about this "free phone glitch" at work and they bought it. Friday night, they start getting phone calls to say that it was an error on their part and they cant honour the free phone but they're happy to knock off £50 off the price of the phone meaning people only pay £100. This was met with a big fat no, as you can imagine but as it was Friday night, the managers had gone home so people are now waiting for a call back with a counter offer. just thought i'd let people know

Opening post
Was looking for a deal with at least 5GB data and under £30 a month. Cracking deal on Mobiles.co.uk
Use code S8PAYDAY to take £155 off the upfront cost of £240 bringing it down to £85. Gear VR included too. Tried stacking other codes - noluck
All comments (240)
No gear VR either
2. If no luck - Order this deal, get any other network sim only, transfer number there, transfer it the new deal.
Got one, many thanks xx
This deal is probably better though with free Gear VR if 5GB of data is enough. I wish I had seen this before :disappointed:
A: wait until month end pay day deals.
B: wait until sept for the Note 8 launch.
It looks like this is happening, I'm still stuck in contract with them until December on a sim only plan, but can upgrade now...I need this deal, how can I get out cheaply?
It might have a RRP of £119, but going price seems to be £35-40, which is not quite what I was expecting.
Still, pretty good price for the phone though.
They are literally the same - the pen, they even have bigger battery.
Also I guess the 2x zoom, but not worth the extra 400pounds.
Good deal indeed, best in 3 weeks as we've been looking daily for the wife. Tempted to go for it myself but find it really hard to justify upgrading from S7edge. Will see what S9 is like
hotukdeals.com/dea…e=1
30 gb data, Unlimited minutes and texts, 29 pound per month but they will get s7 edge
mobilephonesdirect.co.uk/con…all
Is that in camera or printed also?
Pros for Xiaomi
- £137 + 2 year plusnet of £10pm => approx £380 compared to £775 galaxy (with expected monthly cost with inflation)
- dual sim and no contract
Pros for Galaxy
- UK deal
- VR set
- better phone?
hmm.. confused confused confused :disappointed:
One annoying thing with mobiles.co.uk is that you have to complete transaction over phone if you've had more than 2 addresses in past 3 years (which means you won't get cashback from Quidco)
+ Galaxy s8 (black)
+ Free upfront handset (quidco (which has already tracked) & selling the VR set should cover the £85
+ Unlimited minutes
+ Unlimited text
+ 5gb (4g) EE data
All for £27.99 per month (2 year contract)
2. the oneplus 5 is £450-£500. add in a data plan and its a comparable cost.
3. who are you to tell people how to spend their money? each to their own
The customer service lady from ee claimed they can't transfer my phone number from my current sim to the new one!?..., so will need to use a brand new number!?
I imagine there's a lot of people that have been in my shoes... Is there a solution?
(trakker1 beat me to the answer)
Doesn't matter anyway, even if I get £50 for it, it's still close to a free handset, which I never thought I'd get
And personally, I avoid taking financial advice from people who struggle to spell. It's not a good proxy for a sharp mind.
I just spoke to customer service and they informed me...of course it could be a pack of lies to encourage people to take the deal but if anyone is on the fence about it, make up your mind quick!
Cheers OP
(Still got my basket up from earlier, refreshing it remains at £85... just deciding whether to go for it or not before I close the browser!)
People should not be so quick to throw away their statutory rights, this lets big business walk all over us and continue to shrug their shoulders and fob us off onto the manufacturer when they feel like it.
No email from Quidco yet, who are offering £30 cashback for EE contracts (likely won't work due to using a voucher though)
a Moto G4 goes for around £120 doesnt it?
How good is this company with returns? I think I've had enough time to think it over, and decide I'm better off staying as I am. Having a sim only contract, and keeping my xiaomi Redmi Note 3 pro. It works out far cheaper. The only downfall is the (not so good) camera.
