As others have pointed out you can usually get windscreen repairs on your insurance with little or no excess.
However for those of us with panoramic glass roofs the windscreen cover does not extend to this part and would be a normal claim with corresponding excess and premium bump the following year (as would the side or rear windows). So this is potentially useful to those people!

Is this a regular issue for panaromic glass ? Debris falling from trees etc Does anyone have experience and recommend not getting as an option when buying car ?

When purchasing my current car, that has a panoramic roof, my research found that while they're very strong they're not impervious to damage. I did read some stories on forums of people's roofs being chipped or cracked and it costing a fortune to replace (upwards of £1000 for the glass alone). Would imagine they're less likely to get chipped than a windscreen though.

Just done a quick google and this question has been asked many times on many forums. Most respondents are from unqualified sources (like me!).
"It’s worth mentioning you’ve made a windscreen claim when an insurer asks if you’ve used your insurance, because technically you have.
How they then use that information depends entirely on individual insurers. Some will take a year off your no claim discount if you’ve made a windscreen claim, some might increase your next premium. Others won’t be in the slightest bit interested." directline.com/car…een

I had an interesting discussion with my insurance company regarding this, They suggested that you don't even need to declare it, If you declare it of course they may take that into account when calculating your premium. Yes you should declare everything else.

the days are gone when comprehensive meant just that, these days comprehensive is nothing more than just third party fire and theft with as little as they can get away with included

Any windscreen claim with an insurer has to be declared for the next 5 years - although it does not impact no claims I believe it does have a small impact on the premium.

Errr sorry , you are misinformed . I had a windscreen repair done 2 years ago (a small stone chip on the peripheral zone ) . I double checked with the insurance company and the ABI (association of British Insurers ) and have it in writing (or print out ) that glass repairs / renewals need not be declared as a "claim " .

Have a look on any car insurance website - either the comparison sites or any company's own site. Under the question "Have you made any insurance claims in the last 5 years?" answer yes and you will get a drop down box with several options. One of the options is "Windscreen Claim".
I can't remember where I heard about this - I think it was a newspaper article. I previously did not declare windscreen damage claims but do now.
It does make a small difference to the premium - using a comparison site if you run a quote without a declaration and then with a declaration you will find some insurers no longer quote and the prices are slightly different.

they put that option in for the numbnuts who don't understand it's not a claim, otherwise they ring the site up and ask why they can't fill in the form, or go to someone who does have the option.

Yes ,repairs are seldom free on your insurance now - £25 for a repair is the norm with most insurers .
Windscreen repair kits are only £3.19 delivered from UK Ebay sellers , so no need to rush to Asda.

Or just get your insurance company do it for free. I've never had insurance where this is not included.

Not for windscreen repair . But a great deal for the thousands of uninsured drivers out there :worried: And you will only know if you have repaired it legally if it passes its MOT . If the chip you have repaired is in the central zone of the windscreen it is probably illegal . Spending £25 with your insurance company would have got you a legal repair or a new windscreen .

No it doesn't! The windscreen is the one part where you don't get stung for. Even to get the windscreen replaced it'll only cost around £75 and not affect your premium or no claims. Might be worth reading your policy.

Fair enough thought all claims did still cheaper than £25 for me so worked out well same process auto glass would have done took no time at all.

This link is from confused.com who do suggest that previous windscreen claims need to be declared. support.confused.com/con…ent
And found this from Direct Line's website
