This was 399.99 as recently as yesterday (14/08/17). The black console on its own is 339.99 from Game at the moment. Another tenner gets you the limited edition coloured console plus Destiny 2 with pre order bonuses and expansion passes! Great Deal!

I don't think Sony have anything to fear from the XOX. But I have been saying that I do feel Sony will announce a price drop off the PS4 Pro and Slim just before the XOX releases.

At least that is what am banking on as I want to buy a second Pro console. Ill be keeping an eye on the FIFA 18 Pro bundle. Still £399.99 at the moment. I wonder if they will drop the price for that.

You have to have a decent sized (unless you sit very close) 4K HDR TV to really benefit from the Pro. If you have a an average sized basic 8 bit 4K TV without HDR, the results are pretty minimal. That being said, framerate is often fairly noticeably improved on the Pro, and you have the added benefit of downsampling if you still have a 1080p TV.

I honestly wouldn't recommend the spend though if you're TV isn't up to the job. Besides, if your TV is 4K it will upscale the quality to some extent on a regular PS4.

I think it's safe to say the Pro will go to just south of £300 when the X launches which with the sell on value of the Destiny 2 stuff still makes this a rather appealing proposition but I'm still not sold on it also still very happy with my silver Batman edition.

Not to mention I am pondering a Switch especially if they realease a special silver edition console for Odyssey which has been rumoured.

I have had a 65 inch Sony XE9005 since March but even with that I have struggled to justify upgrading to a Pro, all the more so now with thoughts of getting a Switch in the Autumn and the added temptation of the X dropping too.

Probably not for me but deal still a great deal by the way so heat from the Chas

I imagine the PS5 would be in 2019. At that point the PS4 would be 6 years old. I can't see there being another 7-8 year gap between consoles again. I recon we will hear the first details of the PS5 come late next year.

That's about Sony fanboys being threatened by the existence of the Xbox x. A rumour that's more likely to put gamers off buying the Pro than the Xbox.
Pro isn't even a year out on the market yet. It's mid gen upgrade. Ps5 is end of 2019 at the very earliest. 2020 probably. And then you may as well wait an extra year for the more powerful next gen Xbox...or wait a few more years for the more powerful ps5 pro...and so on..

Just get the pro, will do you for Sony's impressive line up over the next couple of years.

Probably 30-35, season pass you could sell online for about 20 easily and depending how the other codes work 10-20 for them too. At a guess anyway. Fairly certain you could offer the game and all the dlc online for 60 or so though considering that would be a really decent price for it (79 elsewhere I believe).
ocelot20 to Mathaeus
16 Aug 17 #15
This bundle also comes with the season pass. Depends if the code is inside the PS4 box or the Destiny 2 box. Destiny 2 you will get about £35 for it. If the code is on it's own then I imagine about £20 for that.

This is a great deal considering the content you get for the price, however:
- I'm not a fan of white consoles.
- the base game is on disc... I'm an 'all digital' guy now.
- I can't help feeling PS4 Pros will be sub £300 (possibly with a game) come November 7th(?) when XOX launches.

The PS4 Pro already supports Rapid Packed Math, little to no games have taken advantage of it though and if you think suddenly the PS4 Pro is going to magically have its performance doubled across the board then you are going to be very disappointed.

See the comments in this Reddit post.

This is a hot deal, hoping to see PS4 Pro maybe dip under £300 in a deal around Chrimbo time though.

I'm happy to stand corrected that although it supports it, the feature itself (RPM) is not enabled yet and would have to be from an update by Sony. I always buy both consoles, that way I have all bases covered. I do however disagree with what you say, all being equal and with RPM enabled on the ps4 pro and unable to be anabled on the xb1x, the ps4 pro will be more powerful.

SPARTAN086.Mike
16 Aug 17 #42
It's not going to be more powerful though and not a single one of the reputable websites that have covered the topic have said it will be either. It might close the performance gap in specific instances in specific games where the developers have optimised for RPM, but that'll be it.

"This is important since with the feature now also available on PC with AMD’s RX Vega GPUs, more game developers could be encouraged to use Rapid Packed Math across the board, PlayStation 4 Pro included. It’s important to also note that this won’t be enough to completely close the performance gap with the Xbox One X since it’s simply too wide and FP16 operations cannot be used in every instance." - wccftech

"However, Horbury cautioned that although performance would be increased, he didn't think it would quite be doubled. This is because the overhead involved with splitting operations into two 16-bit floats would eat into the performance gains. It’s also important to note that this increased performance would only be available when 32-bits of precision are not required. Developers will also need to code for the new technology in order to take advantage of it. AMD has revealed that upcoming shooters Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus and Far Cry 5 will do so on PC, but it’s currently unclear how large the support base will be when it comes to the console. " - Techradar

RPM isn't a feature that needs to be enabled, it is already enabled, it is just that little to no current games have been developed to support it. You are talking about it as if it is a feature that Sony just turn on in a firmware update which in turn boosts performance across all games, which simply isn't true.

I own a PS4, Xbox One, and a Gaming PC so I'm not trying to take sides here, but saying the PS4 Pro is going to be more powerful than the Xbox One X specifically because of RPM is simply spreading misinformation.

I completely understand. I my self own a Pro and even though it's not a massive jump from the standard PS4. But I think it's worth while getting one if you do own a 4KTV. I don't know what games you play. But a fair few games have been improved thanks to the pro. The Division looks really nice in native 4K with a solid 30FPS. While on the OG PS4 I remember suffering from some FPS drops.

Hitman on the Pro is 1440p upscaled to 4K with an FPS of 50 - 60. While on the base PS4 its more like 35 -45. Dark Souls 3 is a target of 60FPS and 30 on the standard. I know it's not always 60FPS but it's much more enjoyable on the Pro imo. Destiny 2 beta looked incredible on the Pro. Only issue I have with both the Pro and XOX is the really poor CPU. If both went with a Ryzen based CPU then 30FPS games would of been a thing of the past.

As for the Switch yer I highly recommend getting one. It's a fun system to own.

There's no patch in the world (and it's not really a patch here, it's a feature that devs need to implement) that's going to double the power of a console overnight. When they talk about it narrowing the power gap, they mean narrowing marginally, not meeting or exceeding the XB1X power. That's not how all this works.

They are just rumours. Sony would be mad to release a new console before 2019. It would give 6years on the PS4, 3 years on the PS4 pro and leave the Xbox One X at only 2 years with no comeback. Sony have all of the cards.

Now, if I could get a Pro bundle with these games specifically, I'd jump on it. I'm just completely underwhelmed by the bundles on offer at the moment with the Pro. I've been swithering over buying one for a couple of months now. I had initially thought I'd get the XOX, but to be honest, I'm not that impressed with it, particularly since I already jumped from my original One to an S, and I don't really appreciate the quarter of an update the XOX is. That said, the Pro is nice, has a bit more power than the S, but it's not impressive enough to be worth the price tag attached, just for the 4K upgrade to the normal PS4.

This is a good deal, in terms of being able to sell the games and DLC on launch day and thus reducing the price of the console, but it's still not a good enough deal to tempt me into parting with the cash yet. Heat added though.

The PS4 Pro will not be more powerful than the X1 X. It has less Ram, bandwidth, CPU speed, and a GPU that is around 2 teraflops less powerful. This false news story about RPM is clickbait. It may improve the performance of some games on the Pro that are able to take advantage of it, but it won't be able to be used on every game, and devs might not want to code for it.

From system architect Mark Cerny through Eurogamer and Digital Foundry said....

"One of the features appearing for the first time is the handling of 16-bit variables - its possible to perform two 16-bit operations at a time instead of one 32-bit operation. In other words, at full floats we have 4.2 teraflops, with half-floats its now double that, which is to say, 8.4 teraflops, for reference the Xbox One X has 6 teraflops of graphical performance.

SPARTAN086.Mike
17 Aug 17 #68
Interesting that you aren't linking to the source of this, probably because you are intentionally misrepresenting his quote? The actual quote is:

One of the features appearing for the first time is the handling of 16-bit variables - it's possible to perform two 16-bit operations at a time instead of one 32-bit operation," he says, confirming what we learned during our visit to VooFoo Studios to check out Mantis Burn Racing. "In other words, at full floats, we have 4.2 teraflops. With half-floats, it's now double that, which is to say, 8.4 teraflops in 16-bit computation. This has the potential to radically increase performance."

Note in the actual quote, he says that this has the potential to radically increase performance, and it would only do so in games that are specifically coded to use two 16-bit operations instead of one 32-bit operation.

In a game that is optimised to take advantage of RPM, there is the potential that the game could run at close to, or better than the Xbox One X version of the game. The vast majority of games will still use 32-bit operations (even some of the games that are optimised for two 16-bit operations will still require 32-bit operations, I highly doubt there will be ANY games that use solely 16-bit operations).

I don't think you really understand what RPM is, but either way the proof will be there once Far Cry 5 and Wolfenstein come out as those titles will feature RPM optimisations.

The only reason RPM is news-worthy at the moment is because the new Vega cards use RPM handling and the previous Polaris cards didn't. The PS4 has been capable of RPM since launch, but no developers have taken advantage of it, presumably due to the extra resources/time/cost needed to specifically optimise for RPM.

The reason websites are highlighting the release of Vega cards as being "important" to PS4 owners is because the theory is that if the Vega cards are succesfull and sell well, then more PC developers will want to specifically code for its unique features (such as RPM) and this will increase the likelihood of PS4 versions of such games having the same benefits.
Dekard97
17 Aug 17 #69
Both. Some games may well be able to utilise it but may not actually get the support from the devs regardless of its potential. But for the games that do get the support (and hopefully they will) they will be still running on a 4 Teraflop system, but able to utilise twice as many computational commands 'like' an 8 Teraflop machine would (but not the same as). It means RPM has the potential to run more operations per teraflop because it splits the units in half. This can only be used on identical lower resource operations that that can run on half power, so it's not twice the power. For want of a better analogy, splitting a cake in two maybe better than one whole depending on how hungry the two people are, but one whole cake is better for someone who wants/needs the lot - in the same way you wouldn't say two half's are more than one whole (although maybe beneficial).

It's the same with upscaled/checkerboarded 4K, it's not the same as native 4K. Or that framerate interpolation at 30fps is the same as 60fps, both are good, but not the same as the full fat version. RPM is definitely a good thing don't get me wrong, but don't expect it to outperform a console with more power in every respect.

This is pretty funny. Xbox x also supports it I believe, or least a variant of it. It will not make the ps4 pro magically more powerful though...it's software not hardware. It will probably allow the pro to get 1 or 2 more FPS if it's used than it would have...it will still be lacking compared to the Xbox x. The Xbox x is £100 more for a reason...the pro is never going to out perform it. I know you won't come to accept that, but it's true and will be proven true.

18 Aug 17 #79
As I said, I'm quite happy to stand corrected, but if you are talking potential then you have to take that into consideration for both consoles. I could have written my words more carefully by saying the ps4 pro will be more powerful into the ps4 pro has the potential to be more powerful. You wont have every xbox game taking up the full 4.2 teraflops of performance in every game, same as ps4 pro, but if a Sony made game, by Sony devs take full advantage of RPM then it could surpass 4.2 teraflops giving the ps4 pro the edge in that game.

As for your last section, how are you defining a consoles power ? by what framerates it pushes out ? its minimums ? Generally in consoles you normally measure by teraflops. I'm interested in what you think about that ?
Dekard97
18 Aug 17 #80
You sound like a fanboy :persevere:
Dekard97
18 Aug 17 #81
I hear what you're saying, but it's a misunderstanding of the technology - probably because of the deceptive way journalists write about this stuff. PS4 Pro cannot surpass 4.2 teraflops no matter what. That is it's computational limit, end of. In the same way Xbox One X cannot surpass 6TF. What PS4 can do with RPM is split certain computational tasks into half (for certain commands if they are identical, and of a low performance) but it is still 4.2TF even with RPM. This can help PS4 utilise more performance where applicable. This doesn't mean it is 8.4 TF, or the same as 8.4TF. It means it can potentially unlock more performance per TF under certain conditions.

And you're right, the achieved performance of a game is not directly comparable to the performance of the console. I was using it as an example to illustrate the notion that something 'like' something, is not the same as that something. So upscaled to 4K, or checkerboard 4K doesn't mean the same as 'true' 4K. I've heard some people say 30fps interpolated to 60fps 'is' the same as 60fps, it's not. So, PS4 at 4.2TF with RPM is still 4.2TF not 8.4TF! With any luck this this technique will yield some great results for us PS4 users, but back to the original topic, it will never be as powerful as Xbox One X - not that I think Xbox one X will be that amazing anyway mind you

It's enough performance to bridge the gap to PS5 or Xbox Two (or whatever they call it) I'd like a X1 X but I can't justify the spend. Apart from Forza which is amazing, I'm not really into any other Microsoft exclusive. Like others, I'm fully expecting a 11TF Zen based Vega SoC for next Gen, fully capable of native 4K 60fps high/ultra graphics settings - can't wait!

My budget loan from the dole has just came through and it just so happened to be £348. So that's a free ps4 pro courtesy of the government. Thank you very much!

How much would the game and the season pass sell for on ebay then roughly? Ive no interest in this game so would sell to make console cheaper!

Went into my local store this weekend, Norwich, displaying on their digital display the price as being 349.99. Asked regarding if they were going to have any offers for trading in an old ps4, and they informed me there should be but couldn't confirm as it was to soon to say.

Can't wait for this to come out now

I just preordered in store (I thought it was an online exclusive) and cancelled the online preorder. I can now trade the old PS4 for instore credit to pay some of the balance which would be better than trading in for cash and putting toward the online order.
bigjugs4me
22 Aug 17 #92
Oh, it's a pro. That makes sense....
SuperBayZ
23 Aug 17 #94
You could trade in the ps4 for instore credit and put it on a gift card which you can then use online

Just a heads up as I found this out last month when I was getting ready to trade stuff in for this,GAME don't price match anymore. So might be worth seeing what the case value is at CEX for some things if you're going to trade them in. They offered me £50 quid for a limited edition 3ds, where as CEX offered me 70 cash. Just have a look around

Great deal - heat added!
I want to trade-in my 500GB PS4 to help pay for the PS4 Pro from GAME. Has anyone got any experience of console trade-ins with GAME? I'm just wondering how long I will be without a console for...? :worried:
I see the payment for the pre-ordered PS4 Pro will be taken around 7 days before the console is released - so how would I use the GAME gift voucher (for my old PS4) to help pay for the PS4 Pro? Unless I literally trade it in now, wait for the gift card to arrive, and THEN place the pre-order?

If you want your trolling to get some miracle grow you should have said "that's a free PS4 Pro courtesy of you taxpayers" rather than the government :unamused: better luck next tim
SuperBayZ
23 Aug 17 #97
Depends on when you take it in, they said to me it will take 20-30 minutes to carry out testing (Make sure you factory reset to clear all the data and info, plus back up saved game data to your online storage)

Go instore and trade it in, ask for it to be instore credit and put on a gift card. Then purchase online using giftcard and cash. Then sit back and wait for it to come to the door, or in my case wait 30 minutes for testing to be done then get new console. Sell game back for instore credit if better than CEX cash (unlikely) then buy psn credit on cd keys and download the game along with everything else when I get in.

Gumtree or facebook? Tends to be local groups so you can sell face to face. Or CEX. If you take it all sealed they'll probably buy it but maybe not the best price.

Used Shpock for the first time to sell a soundbar about a month ago and it worked out sound for me no pun intended:

listed it at 200 quid, first response a few hours later asked if I'd take an offer, I said yeah if it was a sensible one, he said one n half I said yeah and he drove from about 25 mile away to pick it up the following day. Nice geezer, absolutely no dramas and so will list on there again when eBay ain't convenient

So i order this up. 2x PS4 500Gb C condition (marks on the shinny cover) £132 Each (10% extra) (but should of been £148 as i am an elite member (25% extra) and they scanned the wrong code. going back to day to talk to them about it)
when in to the shop yesterday to pay for my pre order in full and they added a keyring and cayde 6 figure to my bag ready to collect to tonight. even tho my order on the game website does not say anything about the figure or keyring

The 2nd PS4 500GB i found on facebook for £90 without a controller (i have like 3 controllers that i never use)

Also traded in some games that PSN+ have released as free so no point having the CD's anymore)

All in costing me around 150 (inc the 2nd ps4 (hoping to save around £32 more once I speak to them today about the Elite membership as trade in of 25% extra and not 10% Extra on conceals if buying hardware/ps4 pro))

also made around £17-19 Store credit

P.S the guy in the store tested both PS4 (took him around 10-15mins) but was also showing me the other destiny stuff like keyrings, candels and so on

£350 for PS4 Pro with a game and DLC valued at around £70 (assuming you want this game), or Xbox One X with nothing for £450, only you can decide what you believe but the question you need to be asking is whether the Xbox One X is worth £150-£170 more than the PS4 Pro, or to put it another way 50% more.
Chasloyal to nige182

The X has got loads more under the hood than the Pro has and the Pro has been out a year now too, so it's obvious you're going to pay a premium for the X at launch.

Case of déjà vu here as had this same chat yesterday. I myself have pre-ordered a couple of the Project Scorpio edition Day One X's because I genuinely feel it's a major step up from the S but I still haven't jumped on board the Pro yet because I'm not convinced it's that much better than my original PS4.

The Pro was available for 286 quid with Horizon and the Uncharted add on here yesterday, remains to be seen if Currys honour this glitch mind, and I feel it's a sign of things to come. The Pro will definitely drop to an RRP of under 300 quid once the X launches and a wild stab in the dark says MS will drop the RRP of the X rather lively in response.

I doubt there will be any serious knock downs for Black Friday well perhaps on the Pro but not on the X though I wouldn't dismiss a rather substantial reduction on the X in the new year for those willing to wait a bit.
adamfairweather

I thought about that but for some reason you can't use a gift card towards an online pre-order? I'll still see what Cex offer me though just incase.

The X is more powerful, and I will own both as always. But being objective, you always need to consider the games and if you want to play with friends, what platform they have. No point in buying the One X to play online with all your mates if they all own PS4s. There have been many times when a more powerful or advanced platform was not the one that came out on top. Betamax anyone? Or looking at consoles, Game Gear came out in 1991 in full colour, Game Boy Color wasn't released until 1998 yet the Game Boy from 1989 despite not even being in colour was the better performer. I'll skip the Dreamcast as the PS2 came out only a year later, but look at the original Xbox, that was quite a beast of a machine really, it came out in 2001, yet the PS2 from 2000 stayed ahead all the way through the generation. On the flipside, the PS3 was released in 2006, a year after the Xbox 360, but it took a long time for the PS3 to build up it's market shares and the learning curve for game development meant that for a long time games were built for Xbox first. The price jump for the PS3 just wasn't worth it at launch. Development learning curve isn't so bad any more as both consoles are based on PC architecture, but devs are always going to focus their investment into the greater market share.

So looking at games, first to consider is the exclusives, no point buying the One X if the exclusives someone wants are on PS4. Secondly is third party titles. If the exclusives alone can't help someone decide between the two, which platform runs third party titles better? And if it is the One X, are they that much better to justify the price jump? The thing to remember with third party titles is that the refinements made to improve things on the PS4 Pro and One X over the standard consoles may be pretty much the same, until the One X is highly adopted it makes little sense putting tens or hundreds of thousands into further refinements for a platform with a low market share.

Personally I own both Xbox One and PS4 and just bought the PS4 Pro to replace my PS4 in the recent Tesco deal which was the bundle that made it my biting point to upgrade. I'll likely wait until the new year for Xbox One X but I know I'll be buying it eventually.

I get the impression you will probably end up getting both consoles too and will decide your own time to buy them, but for someone considering between either the PS4 Pro or Xbox One X, or even which to get first, power is not the only thing to think about.

I had a Game Gear from about a year after it came out but I never bought a Game Boy till 98 at Gatwick Airport before jumping on the flight to our holiday in St Lucia though I totally make you right, the devotion of the Nintenuts has always trumped fan boys n girls of every other platform in gaming. Just look at how every Switch 'deal' at RRP goes tropically hot even now!

I got my first PS3 about 6 months in after the first significant price drop, it was the 60 gig phat boy with PS2 backward compatibility. Got it from Virgin Megastore with 3 games and an extra controller bundled in for about four n half I think. So more than a decade on weighing on the same sort of dough for the current state of the art console don't seem that steep at all.

You're right I will almost definitely get the Pro but not before there's a price drop I'll bite at and a colour/edition I want so I am prepared to be patient

FInally decided to buy it, using the credit i have for the trade in of my Xbox 1 and just found out they do not take gift card credit for pre order purchase  . I only have to hope that tomorrow it will still be on the website (without the preorder) so that i can buy it with my credit..
