Bought few days ago, bit gutted as see what looks like a better build quality one in homebase for £5, sometimes you can get caught up in Lidl doing one off deals, if I actually needed one I'd of probably looked in my local Homebase and just bought it without thinking of the price too much.
Great handy gadgets tho, heat....but cheaper in Homebase looking better quality.

I saw them last week. Not on the web site. Had to resist! HB are selling off a lot of the Craftright brand.

Craftright brand. Is that a good or bad thing?

Looks all right to me. I got a bolster for £2.50 and extending clamps for 4.

Can't see anything similar on Homebase website. Just tried these tho and I am very impressed. Used to cheapo pliers type and these appear so much better. Come with a whole pinch of terminals in addition. Gonna get me a set if still in stock tomorrow.

Made in Germany and I bought one. Then thought WHY ? I never use them. Took it back. I bought the other solely wire stripping tool for less than a fiver which I probably will use (which is also made in Germany)

I'm dubious of lidls product origins, the strippers say tested in Germany but no sign of "made in" anywhere. It's the same with almost all of their stuff, packaging always has Germanic overtones with no clear place of origin. I'm not suggesting that they sell bad stuff just that I suspect most of it is made in China. Conversely aldi is very honest with their stuff.

I thought Lidl was German, hence everything looking like it came from there? I got these last year and they're good, don't feel quite as good as my other much more expensive pair but I'd say very good for the money.

I prefer German strippers than Chinese, may be just me

Quite understandable. But a socket set I bought off Lidl so intrigued me with the high quality of build I did a bit checking. Eventually I found a motorbike bike enthusiasts page (American) which talked about best for buck socket sets. One of them was Brit raving about the very one I'd bought. Another American said they should be they're made by an OEM maker in Germany (can't recall the name) who make tools for various manufacturers "own brands" The name "OWIN" appears on most Lidl tools. Some Powerfix tools are known to be made in Germany. Many hand tools are made by Hangzhou PanGong Tools Co.,Ltd - as are Aldi's "Workzone" Chinese.Obviously.
Pays your money takes your choice. Or your chance. Take it or leave it. I've found Lidl tools especially excellent quality for the price.

Thanks OP, I ran out of breath reading your story halfway. Here are a few full stops you should definitely use in your description ................

Lidl's tool used to be German origin, then Chinese and the last I purchased Indian.
Gradually going down the cheaper production and sourcing route..

The wire stripper might be fine but the crimp part looks rubbish - no better than the cheapest ones available. I had a basic crimp tool for years and usually it was an exercise in frustration and wasted crimps. I then got a Silverline ratchet crimper, it's not perfect but it's a damn sight better than the basic crimpers like this.

Misleading name these, they are a wire stripper with a crimp function. Better with a ratchet crimper really, and cheaper elsewhere. I bought these as a crimper and disappointed.
