I recently saw the philips hue lux set for £39.99 (bridge and 2 bulbs). I personally have a my full home set up with smart bulbs. Something which Philips don't advertise themselves is that the Philips LivingWhites are in fact compatible with the hue system. It works slightly differently in that you link the controller to the bridge rather than individual bulbs, but the overall effect from the app is completely the same. You can save a lot of money trying to set up a fully smart lit house by using these bulb in combination with the philips hue lux starter kit (I have them connected to generation 1 of the bridge, but I believe they still work with the newer generation bridge).

The set consists of 3 x 20W bulbs, 2 x 15W bulbs and a remote control.

Thanks Op. Bought and delivered. Easy enough to pair the bulbs with the remote but other than that I can't figure out how to put them through the hub to work with Alexa.

Can't find a YouTube or Web page with instructions.

Does anybody know how?

I ended up using the iConnectHue app on the AppStore and usually I’m not one to take the easy route out but I had bought 10 bulbs and a starter pack of living whites so thought I’d do it this way after earlier attempts failed.
What is pivotal to know though is that the bulb needs to be in a light socket fairly close to the Hue bridge, within 5 metres. I also found it worked better when the remote was paired first.

Anyway, I now have my whole house with smart lights and all work with Siri too. For me I have two switches in most rooms, GU10 spots and then one main light. We do tend to use the spotlights more but this is very cool for the other lights and cheaper than the two Hue lights I already had.

To note: I have the version 2 Hue bridge and have two existing Hue whites

Good job on getting it working, I went back and tried with my Hue version 1 again, and it works exactly as was in the video. It's a shame that it's a bit more of a pain with V2! If you don't already use it, setting up IFTTT to turn lights on/ off based on whether you are at home is great for energy saving as it guarentees my lights are always off when I leave the house.

That's the video I tried. The first bit worked with the light and it flashed with the little noise from the remote. When I tried it with the bridge the bridge did flash but the remote noise was a buzz instead as though there was an error.

Then I could use the remote with the light but no new lights were showing on the hue app when I searched. I tried a good few times and turned everything off and on again.

I appreciate this is using the living colour remote, but from I remember it is the same process for the livingwhites.

Can you control each bulb independently say for instance in the hallway I have 3 bulbs can I have one on dim one on full and the other off?

Yes, once connected, they work exactly the same as the usual hue bulbs!

With that said, would each bulb show up indivually in the hue app to control from app and not the remote?

and would i be able to use the remote on my other philips hue bulb?

I believe this is only backward compatible, so the LivingWhite remote cannot control a hue bulb, however from the hue app the LivingWhite bulb appears as normal, each bulb is individually dimmable/controllable.

It's not for sure, the spiral bulbs (like those here easy-lightbulbs.com/lig…wcB) are usually not LED, I believe they are known as CFL or Compact Fluorescent Lamps.

As the Amazon page and subsequent google search didn't clarify if they're LED or not, I won't bother, as they look like CFL in appearance. Good price though this is, I'll stick to LED.

Yes bulbs are fully dimmable and to answer previous questions fully controllable from the hue app.

As I say, I am currently using V1 of the bridge. An active thread for the lux starter kit is linked above, this is £39.99 also which includes the initial hub as well as 2 of the hue lux (white light) bulbs.

A confirmation that these definitely work with the second bridge would be really helpful.

This article seems to confirm that they do work together and the philips website doesn't seem to show anything on the contrary, but a first hand confirmation would be great.

What size are these?
I have small depth shades on my ceiling lights, just wondering if these will be hidden or would they stick out of the top.

Should work with bridge version 1/gen 1- OP is using gen 1 bridge- see description.

Bridge version 1 or two varies from 20-50 pounds- check e bay, amazon or gumtree/sphock.

Yes can confirm these work with alexa :smile: though please note, it is required to be connected via the hue bridge so you will require one before using these with your phone app or Alexa. I simply posted this as a cheaper method of creating a fully smart lit home for those that already own a philips hue brige.
