After last week's great deal on the first generation Pebble Steel smartwatch I've found that the 2nd generation of Pebble, the Pebble Time is now reduced too, and for less than £50 you're getting an amazing bit of kit in my opinion. It's not quite as stylish as the Time Steel versions, but those are £90+ The Pebble Time is a significant improvement over the first generation Pebble Smartwatches. It's got the very latest firmware, and also has Pebble Health built in which is a very effective activity and sleep tracker, and integrates with Google Fit and the Apple equivalent. Unlike a lot of smartwatches Pebbles work with both Android and IPhones, which is great. The reason they are being so reduced in price is because Pebble got bought out by Fitbit and these will no longer be developed or supported in the future by Pebble, (however there's a group of developers taking it on so some more features might be possible). But most importantly, it all still works wonderfully, the Android and iPhone apps do all you need and the software is very well refined already with hundreds of Pebble apps available on top of all the watch faces etc. I'd not had a smartwatch before last week and I have to say I have loved it, most of all it works really well as a watch and activity tracker, the battery lasts 4-7 days, it's not the top of the range smartwatch but there's lots of problems with those in terms of battery life and usability. For £10 extra I've decided to return my Pebble Steel and get this instead. Useful review here: uk.pcmag.com/peb…ime

Tools? Ummm. Can't say I've ever seen a Black and Decker drill wearing a smart watch.

yes, it really is. I've had numerous pebbles (from the first one up) i now have an apple watch. Pebbles are great, maybe not so much as a fitness tracker but for notifications they are awedsome, battery life is brilliant as well. For 50 sheets it's a worth it

I love my Pebble Time Steel. This one is a bit cheaper, but has the same internals. The best ballance between functionality and battery life.

I absolutely loved the first generation one I got this week, but the latest features on this, plus colour, plus a microphone to dictate text replies just made it a no brainer to return and upgrade. The app works really well, links to the watch via bluetooth, instantly updates the watch faces and apps on the Pebble, I've been very impressed. There's a slight sacrifice in looks I think, the Pebble Steel had a nice leather band etc, but to get that version is £90 and the better tech was really my motivation. Can't wait to get my hands on it!

If you don't mind gold and red I've just seen you can get the Pebble Time Steel version for £63 on Amazon at the moment - amzn.eu/aJI…vOR The nicer black and silver versions are still over £90 though.

The black was £79.99 for ages, it's just gone up to this price as presumably the original seller has sold out.

How comes this post was allowed but another person's this morning was removed? I clicked on the link this morning to say the post had been removed and this is the exact same post.. Its 'Extreme Deals' who still only have stars89% positive in the last 12 months (281 ratings).. same as this morning. Smh.

I posted it this morning with another supplier who weren't allowed, so checked and found Extreme Deals were allowed instead of them so reposted. You actually get proper Prime Delivery with this one though, the other was just free expedited delivery with Prime so I've actually bought this one.

Pebble sold out to Fitbit so you won't get any support. Notorious for screen going wrong and we had one, just google it. Wouldn't buy another.

Only the first gen had screen issues, as for no support, the app was updated again last week...

The 1st gen Pebble had screen issues due to it's construction (fixed by opening it up and inserting a cardboard shim apparently). These second generation Pebble Times don't have the same issue as far as I've seen from my research.

Fingers crossed then but a cardboard shim seems a bit heath robinson. Wonder if 2nd gen is the last one from kickstarter then.

I've had my OG Steel for 3 years next month, love it. A week battery and the brighter it is the clearer the screen is, the complete opposite of any other smart watch, it's great.

I have the same one, with the metal strap too. Great watch, I really like its design, haven't seen anything else I would want to replace it with.

14 Aug 17#16
It's got a year's warranty (or is it two, I never know) with Amazon backing it up so worst case scenario just send it back if there's a problem. As has been said, the phone app that pairs with it is still being updated and that's all you need for the watches to work. The latest update has actually specifically removed reliance on any Pebble cloud services so that it doesn't matter if that stopped, and it's opened it up to developers so that other firmware could be used with it: rebble.io/ (The ex-pebble developers new software branch)

I am seriously tempted by this...
I love my original Pebble, and the screen tearing problem was an easy fix. It does exactly what I need a smart watch to do : it's cheap; it tells the time; it tells me who is calling me, or what a message says; it's waterproof (or at least it was, before I managed to knock a couple of the button caps off - I haven't been brave enough to put it in water since then!) and, importantly for me, it has physical buttons. I listen to a lot of podcasts, and when I'm in the freezer at work, all wrapped up in coat and gloves, I can easily start/stop/rewind/change volume etc simply by feel - I don't have to take my gloves off to use a touch screen, or pull the watch out from under my sleeve to see what I'm doing...
Maybe it's a good time to upgrade with this deal - thanks bobthewibble!

I've the original pebble steel black, I love the steel bracelet which still looks fine, is this the same fitting so i could swap to the bracelet?
bobthewibble
15 Aug 17#21
I believe it's a standard 22mm fixing on the new one so any strap of the same width can be swapped in. I think the Steel had a unique split fixing didn't it?
john306 to bobthewibble

Thanks. I'll have to look into the split fixing you mention, I've never heard of it to be honest.

Thanks, I was very close to getting the Nike+ apple watch deal the other day but really couldn't justify that much money. As my Up Move broke yesterday this seems a decent first foray into the world of trackers and smart watches.

Had the pebble time since April 2016 and love it. It does everything I need and has great battery life. I wear it running (basically to control music from my phone - Google Play) which is useful. I wasn't crazy on the strap so changed it for a reasonably cheap metal one and I think it looks great now. I was gutted when Pebble sold as I was watching the Time 2 with interest. Just hope functionality carries on for a while yet...

Can I remotely control Bluetooth devices on the watch ? Does it do speech to text ?
Lahn to foes4you
15 Aug 17#29
It does speech to text, although it's not perfect at picking up what you say. It can control apps on your phone - so you can turn the volume up/down or next/previous tracks on things like spotify, but it pairs with your phone, so you cannot directly control any bluetooth devices.

However, I have my Alexa hooked up to Spotify too, so in effect I can control my Alexa's music with my watch if I'm too lazy/out of range of Alexa herself. :stuck_out_tongue:

Good price for what it is so I'll vote hot When Pebble had been bought out at the end of last year I panicked about the support and sold my Pebble 2 that I had only just bought from their last Kickstarter page. As it turns out I didn't need to panic about the support. I ended up buying a Xiomi mi fit band 2, the deals we see often on here for sub £20 and it does most of the things the Pebble did/does for a lot less money. Appreciate it won't be to everyones taste with a much smaller screen but if your looking for a good value smart/fitness device thats still supported and being developed go for the Mi Fit, especially if you want a heart rate sensor. I would prefer an Apple watch but the high cost and low battery life are still putting me off.

Great watch for the price. Devs have (with Fitbit blessing) started Rebble.com with the intention of carrying on support for the watch.
