The new model is in dealerships now (I know, I was in the showroom yesterday picking up my new car). I think the photo shows the new model, but I would assume this deal is the outgoing model. IIRC Visia is the entry level trim on Nissan models. Good price though for a car with plenty of space and excellent ride.

A great deal for a brand new Qashqai but a quick check on Auto Trader threw up the same car used as a 16-reg with 6k on the clock for £12.8k and a 65-reg with 7.6k on the clock for £12.3k. I always used to buy brand new cars with a decent discount but I've now changed my mind and buy low mileage cars with an even bigger discount.
My lad insisted on getting a nearly new Qashqai because they were popular with his mates. He really likes it but I have noticed he's now getting caught out by annoying faults (a/c isn't working on the passenger side) which aren't now covered by warranty. Had he had his time over, he might have listened to his Dad's advice to go for one of the more obscure SUVs which have lower prices and longer warranties. Again on Auto Trader, I quickly found a 66-reg MG GS Excite TGI with 6.8k on the clock for £12.5k or a 66-reg Ssangyong Tivoli SE with 10.5k on the clock for £10k, both of which come with the balance of 5 year manufacturer's warranties (vs the 3 year one for the Qashqai).
Voted hot on the deal but personally think nearly new for less is the way forward...

I would certainty add the ASX to the left field choice too. The top spec with the 6 speed auto and the 2.2 diesel is a stunning nearly new purchase!

I suppose in theory your points are valid but majority of people don't have the 12k plus to buy off auto trader, or are you meaning that the deals you saw are from a dealer on auto trader ?

The deals I found were on AutoTrader.co.uk. Agree that not everyone has £12k in readies but a lot of the cars on Autotrader are sold by dealers who can do finance.
My own experience of buying cars off Autotrader is that dealers are amenable to giving you an additional discount (especially for a decisive, quick cash sale) but private sellers (possibly because they ask for less in the first place) want the posted selling price and won't budge.

Indeed, also private sellers on Autotrader (like many dealers) tend to see their vehicle as being worth more than it really is.......

I bought a year old 1.4 Turbo vauxhall astra for £8000 with 5000 miles on the clock. Absolute bargain imo and webuyanycar still offering more than I paid to trade it in. Should see me fit for 10 years I hope.

What is a good way to ensure the pre owned cars that you get via auto traders are in good conditions and there aren't hidden costs staring back at you pretty soon by way of faulty parts, not disclosed things etc? I am debating whether to buy this one or look at auto trader for low mileage cars.

At the end of the day, whether you buy new or used, the thing you must have is a manufacturers warranty. That's your best protection in the event of problems. Whenever I've bought cars off Auto Trader (both private & dealer sales), I've always bought cars which have around two years left to run on the manufacturer's warranty. If you buy cars outside of their warranty, or maybe only have six months to run, you will pay even less but your potential risk will correspondingly increase.

No, there is no filter but if you look around you will quickly realise manufacturers crudely split into three groups; ones with three year warranties (like Nissan & Suzuki), ones with five year warranties (like Ssangyong, Hyundai, Toyota, etc) and one (Kia) with seven years cover. Once you know what the manufacturers offer, you can quickly work out from the reg of the car, how much warranty is left to run.

Qashqai's are good cars, even if there is a new model, which is more of an update then a totally new car, if the price is right and you want to get 5 years good years family use out of the car then it should be a good buy.
This Nissan is built for families, they are reliable, good quality cars that drive well. Theres no reason this would not turn in a solid 5 years of family work.
Buying the out going models always leave you stuffed if you pay full or close to full OTR price and want to trade or sell it for a newer car in a 12 -24 months time.

Gorgeous looking car! This or something 2nd hand for same cash price? Warranty any good with Nissan - burning a hole in my pocket but would LOVE a new car!!

Had a qashi, from new, for 3 years, due to change soon. Best recommendation I can give is that I WILL be changing for another one.
Superb car, very comfortable, and never missed a beat. Mine is the diesel 1.5 which pulls really well and will easily return 70+ MPG on a motorway run. In mixed driving I average 57 mpg.
Over 40k miles now and it stil drives like new and in someways better as it probably took 10k miles for the engine to loosen up.
I dont know if were allowed to give links to owners clubs so I wont but googles your friend there.

Don't forget diesels have the dpf filters issues and can need very expensive replacements of them and other filters.

I have a one year old Qashqai, diesel 4x4 and it is a fantastic car. reliable, nice to drive, and i feel really safe in it. love my car and would certainly get a new one again in 2 years time.

Purchased a tekna Xtrail three weeks, which is the bigger version of the QQ, 7 seats, 66 plate, 7k miles, lovely dark blue for £21k if anyone needs something bigger. similar feedback to everyone above, lovely car, tidy and you get so much for the money.
I was originally after a £40k discovery sport, while it might not be as good, I am happy with the huge saving and the good quality/reliability and much much lower running costs.

when and to whom does leasing a car makes more sense? just want to do the maths and understand what is more cost-effective...
For example: this deal on Infiniti Q30 - £4471/24mths,
let's say you could repeat the deal for 3.34times then you would have
the Infiniti for 6y6mths for the same price of the Qashqai (3x new car
cycles); but no residual value. Does it make sense to have a lease only
if you use a car a lot and want to have a new car every 24/36mths
rotation?
Reason for asking is that I bought a nearly new Kia in
Sep/13 with warranty until Sep/20. I do low mileage and thinking of
keeping the car until for 10y or maybe until it starts to fail. However
I've been trying to understand whether leasing could be an
alternative....
Thoughts?

Doesn't help that you're not comparing Apples to Apples really. Nissan and Infiniti might be the same company but one is standard, the other is luxury.

I've picked up the Q30 as an example (because it was posted recently)....It could/should have been another small SUV....the point is about being cost-effective financially.

I did the same thing, bought a Cee'd in Nov 15. As a private buyer doing low miles and not fussed about changing the car every few years (which I actually find to be a chore) an approved used Kia with 7 year warranty is a sort of "third way" particularly as I want an auto, which is always an expensive option. You get most of the benefits of new (the car is barely used) with a big saving on list, you can keep it a long time and you're still covered against major failures.
As I understand it, where leasing starts to make sense is when you start to do bigger mileages (15k plus) there is a bigger chance of costs racking up with an older car (even if it's just tyres and servicing), so you're just as well having a new one and changing often it thus avoiding the hassle of maintenace and repairs.
Of course where leasing really comes into its own is for business use, as it's a tax efficient way to run a vehicle.

I have a 64 plate Tekna - been to the garage 6 times with various rattles (dashboard out 3 or 4 times) given up, panoramic room 3 or 4 times still cracks along and gives up the ghost, failed to start a few times before they replaced the battery as a kindness (known to be weak but not automatically covered under warranty), new tyres and brakes at 17k (continentals at £250 a pop are too soft), intermittent problems with the poor Audio and Climate control, and the 1.2 petrol is downright dangerous I.e. Zero power from start especially in the cold and before the turbo kicks in - all in all a fabulous car. I have done 24k and looking to change - any takers ?!!

I have the 1.2 DIG-T and if you miss that sweet spot on take off there's a good chance you'll just be left stranded in the middle of the roundabout waiting for the acceleration to kick in.
The car is fantastic. This engine is not. Although for the price still hard to beat if you drive conservatively.

I've had one in the past, the engines too small for the car in my opinion.
General door to door it's ok but motorway overtaking is tedious and needs 24 hour planing.
There is a facelift due soon, a new model is several years away.

A 1.2 in a car this size and heavy. Someone is having a laugh. I have driven the 1.5dci and thought that lacked grunt. Maybe fine to keep the emissions and tax down but that engine is always going to struggle. We had. 1.2 fiesta and that was bad enough. Scary when wanting to overtake even on a dual carriageway.
