Do you need separate modem for broadband? Cheers

Yes, this has ethernet connections only. You likely need a modem that can handle VDSL, or for slower connections ADSL.
Yes. Not sure if you can do that on the stock firmware though.

This one has been reduced a fair bit and has a built in modem:
Yes, very simple process and works fantastically with ExpressVPN

Can I use this to set up private internet access VPN over my whole network ?

This might be a stupid question to you all but why would I need this over the router supplied by my ISP?
Thank you

Generally better hardware than what's provided by your ISP (increased Wi-Fi range, multi channel/band, better admin panel) - some devices also let you install custom firmware, for adding extra features to your network.

V2 version so power limits are hard coded to 20dbm. It's still a very capable router. Runs like a dream with LEDE.

I have a Netgear r700 which vastly improved my bt hub6 which dropped out several times per day and has no qos so ps4 or xbox one lagged every time. Qos and boom ps4 and Xbox no lag. Also far better app with loads of options such as turn off certain devices from the internet. I'm guessing this router does the same sort of stuff

Ordered one. Let's see how it works on VPN via TigerVPN or Windscribe.

Great router. I have the combo together with 8 port switch. Works like charm on Virgin (using dd-wrt).

Does DD wrt void the warranty,?

No it shouldn't. You can revert back to stock easily.
It's a good job it's officially supported by LEDE then

I dislike Linksys routers, same old dated user interface and no firmware support from Linksys.
