Seems like a good deal to me but looking to get one for my birthday so would be interested if anyone knows of a better deal around this price range as I'm not an expert
Or onedrive. You get 1tb of cloud storage with office 365. It syncs your photos with the photos app.

I'm very interested in the speed of opening pages an ssd would give me but as a complete Luddite, where would I store my thousands of photos that are currently on picasa? Picasa has not been excluding duplicates of my photos when I try to upload them, hence the thousands. My memory of 500gb is totally full. Would I be better off seeking a 1tb laptop? I'm not interested in gaming or amazing resolution, at my age I'm glad things are not still in black and white. Thank you for any assistance you can give this old person.

You could get an external drive for your photos or use Google drive

Yet the Macbook is a bit of a clone of the ZX81 in that they used the same membrane tech.

I'm sure it's resemblance to a MacBook is entirely coincidental.
Full hd & i3 (but no ssd) for less but a little more chunky.

Unfortunately most laptops below 500 with a decent processor are. Been looking for 2 weeks with no luck for a decent 14 inch laptop around 400.

That link for the medion Gordon Bell suggested looks a really good buy for the money. I'm aftyer one for my daughter sub £400 and I'm thinking I like it

There was one posted the other day. However apparently the customer service gets terrible reviews as well as the quality of the laptop. Some come doa... Put me off the medions.

Actually the link in captainbeaky (above) post seems like better value - Same processor, full HD. Only difference I can see is 4GB ram, but its £50 cheaper. You probably don't need the extra 4GB, and even if you do it costs about £30-35 to buy. currys.co.uk/gbu…868

So thats a saving of £15 then for a silver one with 8gb ram. I think I'll stick with my choice. She likes the white as well but thanks for the steer

Just noticed the Medion has an IPS screen instead of TN - so its likely to be a much better screen.
Edit: See link in CaptainBeaky post below for cheaper option (£50 cheaper with 4GB less - other spec look the same to the Medion)

They've been superb in my dealings with them (two laptops has issues, had full replacements and no messing about). Had a desktop from them that had no issues too.

WINNER. And I'm not bothered about HD... I assume this has been created as a HUKD?

Full HD screen
8GB
2 year warranty (although I'm not sure if Medion has decent customer service)
If you don't mind a lower res screen see the link by Musiccrab (Processor is slower Benchmark 2667 vs 3192 the model above)
