And if your put on North facing wall and even on south facing on dark winter days,good luck.
Only fit one if confident diy or mate who is,have to drill through and run three core cable to light and. 5amp fused switch.As well as drilling and rawlplug and screw bracket to wall. Checked Scewfix prices a week ago and ended buying a 20watt? from ebay for £8 the cable was a few inches long had to cut internal cable and connect longer cable.screwfix.com/p/l…93h Think the £5.99 is better reviews and looks Thanks scottiebottle,ordered 2 of white Guardian.

I have the smallest of the MPOW solar security lights on a North facing wall, and its worked all of last winter giving light whenever I needed it (its mounted above the garage door). I was worried it wasnt gonna last hence only getting one, but it worked so well I now have more dotted around (in places where getting power to proper outside lights is hard)

MPOW is the brand you need. We have 3 of these up and around the house, 1 of which is north facing so doesnt get a whole lot of light.. It lasted all last winter giving light when needed. :smile:

I agree, I have 3 small led MPOW lights with motion sensor and also a large version.
Great for the price, cant fault them.
The light they give off for solar lights is impressive.

Hi,
I have the 8 led one at the side of the house, at the end of the driveway, and ive pointed it so it lights up whole side of the house as I approach. It's very bright for such a small light.
Also have an 8 led one above the shed, and the large one is a 24 led which is above the conservatory door outside pointing onto garden which is excellent.
They have an option for full brightness or slightly dimmer, which is handy.
It really depends what, and how much you need to be lit up?
You'll be surprised how bright they are.

Can't fault these lights, just got another couple and the 10w pir are ideal in the garage so when you open the door the light comes on no touching switch with wet hands if raining. I have other 10W along the garage via pullcord if more light needed

Amazing value. I got a 10w one last time they were on offer but have never seen them this cheap so just ordered a 50w to replace an old 500w halogen, great find and thanks for posting.

Do you know if the LED lights are a direct replacement/will mount on the bracket or is this just a suggestion? Good suggestion mind, just concerned about adapting to fit onto mounting if not direct fit. There is also a £2.99 option so don't even have to go to £3.89 if this works for some.

I don't know for certain. However I took an old Halogen Worklight I had. Removed the body and bolted a spare LED spotlight I had, straight onto the frame. Fitted perfectly. For £7, you could buy both. Look at them, make a judgement call and then return before any harm is done if you don't think they will fit. I'm 95% sure it will though.

Okay, absolute "newb" question...
Would the one withe sensor (as pictured in the OP) at £4.49 need an electrician to fit?

Wires up the same as any other 3 cable electrical item, you tend to find it has a 4 way connector block with instructions on what 3 to use, or one has no writing so you don't use that one. Either way it's quite obvious, if not post a pic up and someone will set you straight :smile:

Postie dropped a mail shoot off 5 mins after I saw this, some right bargains to be had. Bought 4 £2.99 floodlights to sort the loft and inside the garage, a 8w LED bulkhead to replace the CCFL one and turn the house 100% LED (bar fridge and cooker)

Depends whereabouts in the country you are... If you live in a hard electricity area best to go for 20w+, but if you live somewhere with soft leccy (i.e. Cumbria and some parts of the Midlands) 10w should be more than enough! Hope this helps, I'm not an electrician but I'm sure there are some on here able to correct any mistakes I've made and explain the principle in more detail if needed.

fitted two yale pir flood lights the other day and there already faulty the pir is full up with water and they are mounted under the soffit!!!
that was bad enough but on my house i fitted five various differnt pir flood lightlights all led ones and they again all became faulty, all with water ingress and then switching on randomly in the rain and wind...........

P.S The PIR on this is TERRIBLE! The field of view is really narrow and the dog doesn't set it off. It was the dog that said he wanted one - he's very disappointed...

The cases on these are quite solid, held shut by tri-wing security screws. very thin cases too
The 20W ones output something like a 100W bulb in a wide flood pattern
Unfortunately however you position them the gland is going to be up, and it's a crappy plastic gland, you will need a blob of silicon to seal it and probably wrapping the gland with some self amalgamating rubber tape too
the unit as a whole seems pretty well sealed.
You'll need flexible round cable to fit the gland properly, not the flat domestic lighting cable, so some kind of junction box will be required too

Bought a few of these.50w pir 20wpir and bought the £2-99p floodlight took out the halogen fitting and fit a 20w led in it only one hole to drill.makes a nice little led floodlight for £8.

Haven't done it yet as a small weekend project but that is one of the things I intend to try. £3.49 version rather than the £2.99 one as would have to buy the lights anyway.

I bought the £3-89p one but the lamp was part of the whole thing looked a pain to sort so took it back and got the smaller one.The cable from the halogen went straight into the led no problem,Just one hole to drill and that was it.

I installed a 20w pir one today, i notice now its dark its lit up ever so slightly with a light glow , then when the pir is activated it comes on full blast as it should
Anyone else notice the same on theirs ?

Can't comment on your problem as not fitted mine yet but if correct , you will be paying for a very dim light on all day. Assume there is a adjustment for when the light actually comes on based on daylight/dark? Have you set this correctly or inadvertently adjusted during installation.

I'm no electrician - but... I'd try the red :smile: If the yellow is the switched wire then it just means you'd need the switch turned on all the time to make the light functional. Either way - you won't be able to switch the light on manually...
