It's not that bizarre when you think about it:
- Gearbest have about a million different product lines so info is going to be a bit hit and miss, as there's not going to be tech head around who knows everything about every product in alot of detail. Can you imagine going into PC World and asking one of their sales reps about a product? They won't have a clue. - Even Amazon don't answer online questions about products they sell - they leave it to other customers - English isn't going to be the Gearbest reps' first language so the fact that they answer at all shows that they're making an effort. - They have different warehouses with different stock and model revisions. - The discontinued could be an error or it could be referring to the v3 which has been replaced by the v4 here or it could be referring to different stock at different warehouse locations

Please bear with me, it's been a while since I bought a PC, I have not seen the eMMC before. Won't it be much slower than a normal HDD? Do you also have to therefore factor in cost of putting in a SSD? AS 64 GB is not much storage space.

is this worth a punt? I am so tempted, but would need to get a m.2 (another $80), plus possible import tax and VAT, not sure that it really adds up then?
- better higher res IPS screen - aluminium build - thinner / lighter - faster storage - get a m.2 SSD (+£60) and you've got over 320GB of storage.
If I bought that Asus Vivobook, it would never get used in my house - too heavy, too brick like, too slow, low res TN panel screen etc.

Hmm, tempting. Does anyone know if these support Encryption of the disk? You need a TPM chip to allow device encryption, can be done here if you're logged on to the laptop with an MS account: support.microsoft.com/en-…ion
I would imagine they don't fit TPM chips (probably illegal in China(?) + saves a dollar or so). Please confirm when you get your laptops if encryption can be enabled

Not sure why you'd want to though - ChromeOS is really quite limited. I love its simplicity and low hardware requirements but it drives you nuts after a while due to the software limitations.

While chrome os might be lightweight my experience with chrome browser is anything but so I'd prefer to get a little more power than the woeful defaults offered by chromebooks. I suspect my downfall will be rock solid wifi chip support but I'll try it on my laptop and see how i get on

Mine arrived today. Took 9 days from ordering from GearBest. Its lovely. It looks to be the v4 version. It has a subtle rubber rim around the screen, and the M2 port has a cover over it.
Only got as far as seeing that it boots up, but it is everything I hoped for so far. Windows is in English.
Also got an MSI accessory package for it for 76p. A mouse, mouse mat and keyboard cover.
If you need a cheap laptop to surf and type on, you will be hard pressed to beat this.

I ended up backing up everything and doing a fresh install of windows 10 to make sure, this has got rid of whatever it was and doesn't appear to have affected stability or performance from what I can see.
Hopefully wasn't anything useful but seeing as it's an unknown program sure can live without whatever it was.
Also not sure if related to the meimengmeng program or not but windows updates were disabled and had to manually enable them since reinstall is now doing what it should do automatically.

Found this in the user comments below the above linked newflash on TechTablets (link in my deal posting above).....
Just confirming I ordered from Gearbest on Aug 23 and the newer version was delivered to Canada on Aug 28! I now have a V3 and V4.
The trackpad is 1000% times better. It would be nice if there was some kind of BIOS setting that we could make on the V3 to make the trackpad more usable.
ONE BAD THING I noticed… it seems there is some kind of Chinese spyware loaded on the V4 which I confirmed isn’t on the V3.
I think it is spyware, but haven’t had a chance to run it through any scans yet… but it certainly looks like it. A new windows service “msdevice” was installed; it disabled windows update (i seen this on the V3; but no spyware?).
The service keeps it’s files in C:\MSConfig in a hidden folder. I’ve disabled the service until I know more about what this is… anyone else find the same??
Yes, there is something strange : MeiMengMeng.Win.Clients is loaded on startup. After digging a little deeper I found a log file which content indicates that this is some kind of service which uses windows volume activation. It uses slmgr /ipk “windows licence key” command. I will explore this a bit more…
Volume License Activation (KMS) is definitely fishy for separately sold devices. This looks like an emulator for a KMS service that executes with every boot in order to reset the 180 day activation grace period of business activation. Quite common way to “pirate” Windows 10 Professional.
However, shouldn’t the Ezbook 3 Pro v4 have the Home version of Win10?! KMS activation does not work for Home editions, Professional and Education only.
It would have the home version. Sounds odd because the EZbook 3 Pro V3’s all have valid licensing and installing my own copy of Windows 10 Home it will activate without any issues as a digital license I think it said. (Win 10’s pulling the key from the bios SLIC)
I think a coworker might have messed something up there. It does not make sense to try activating Win10 Home with KMS at all, it is literally impossible. As you said, the key is in the BIOS and once it synced with the MS servers at first activation, the key is bound to the machine and can always be activated with anothe copy of Win10 home.
The only difference would be the very specific “Win10 Home Chinese Domestic Market” version, which actually only activates the Chinese verssion of Win10. I’ve seen this aswell in your videos just like the temporal licenses, which I’ve actually never seen before. You never stop learning I guess."
What does all this mean? If anyone can explain in layman terms? Do I need to do anything when I receive the V4 model? :thinking:

Hi there, I just received this machine and the trackpad is fine - it has some software on it to choose sensitivity options. I am not sure if this is the enhancement, but the responsiveness and accuracy is great. My issue is that it has a sealed battery as far as I can tell. Does anyone know how to order a replacement or to reduce degradation by turning the charging function off (therefore prolonging its life)?

Not sure of the whole explanation of what they are saying, but personally if i don't know what it is i don't want it as could be doing anything without you knowing or could be completely harmless there is very little information on what the program is.
If you know what you are doing i would recommend doing a fresh install that way can be more confident that there is nothing nasty on there and put mind at ease.
I did a fresh install on mine and doesn't seem to have any issues, so should be fine for others but don't blame me if anything does go wrong :smile:

The version of Windows 10 supplied with this loads a rather odd .exe file on startup called "MeiMengMeng.Win.Clients"
Not entirely sure what it does but its definitely not standard. You may want to disable it via msconfig.

Just received mine today and I am very impressed so far.
The screen is beautiful and the laptop feels really well made. I got version 4 of the laptop and the track pad seems great. It should serve me very well. Can't imagine getting something better for the price.

Just install the intel wifi first and run windows update. seems to have auto found all the drivers needed.
Early thoughts - I love it! Great screen, keyboard and trackpad (keyboard is much better than that of my Onda 21). Wireless is as fast as my fibre (52Mbps). Build is brilliant, feels oddly premium! EMMC is slow in benchmarks but seems fast in use due to the decent 4k read figure. My 128GB Kingspec SSD is much quicker though - Windows is installing on it as I type.
However, there are two things which will definitely drive me nuts! Firstly, why is the AC adapter lead so short?! I want to buy a replacement 12v 3a adapter which is longer and with a UK plug - anyone found something suitable? Secondly, there is no print screen button! Arrrrrrgh! My OCD is going nuts (although the snipping tool is working fine :smile: ).
Cheers, I've ordered the complete adapter from Amazon though as I want a proper UK plug.
SSD eventually went in ok after some faff...windows 10 wouldn't install at first - not sure if the SSD wasn't seated properly or I was using an older Windows 10 installer - either way, fixed now.
For anyone who wants to install Windows from fresh, backup your Windows\System32\Drivers (and possibly Driver Store) folder first. This contains all the missing drivers from a fresh install. You'll need to go into device manager and for each missing driver, search the backed up folder.

Not sure why you'd want to though - ChromeOS is really quite limited. I love its simplicity and low hardware requirements but it drives you nuts after a while due to the software limitations.
While chrome os might be lightweight my experience with chrome browser is anything but so I'd prefer to get a little more power than the woeful defaults offered by chromebooks. I suspect my downfall will be rock solid wifi chip support but I'll try it on my laptop and see how i get on
Update 5 September, and..........arrived today, looks gorgeous, can't wait to have a play.
1) isn't the windows 10 in Chinese? How do you change this?
2) is the keyboard in an American layout?
3) how much will the import taxes be and how do you pay them? Is this factored in to the price?
4) how large a SSD can be fitted and is it easy to do?
5) how does this compare with the Medion Aldi laptop with touch screen for £249 (3 year warranty)?

I'm starting to understand what Chris from TechTablets goes through now!
Only got as far as seeing that it boots up, but it is everything I hoped for so far. Windows is in English.
Also got an MSI accessory package for it for 76p. A mouse, mouse mat and keyboard cover.
If you need a cheap laptop to surf and type on, you will be hard pressed to beat this.
Only concern so far is a program called meimengmeng that loads on start up, couldn't see anything on Google search anyone else have it on theirs or know what it is?

Hopefully wasn't anything useful but seeing as it's an unknown program sure can live without whatever it was.
Also not sure if related to the meimengmeng program or not but windows updates were disabled and had to manually enable them since reinstall is now doing what it should do automatically.

The trackpad is 1000% times better. It would be nice if there was some kind of BIOS setting that we could make on the V3 to make the trackpad more usable.
ONE BAD THING I noticed… it seems there is some kind of Chinese spyware loaded on the V4 which I confirmed isn’t on the V3.
I think it is spyware, but haven’t had a chance to run it through any scans yet… but it certainly looks like it. A new windows service “msdevice” was installed; it disabled windows update (i seen this on the V3; but no spyware?).
The service keeps it’s files in C:\MSConfig in a hidden folder. I’ve disabled the service until I know more about what this is… anyone else find the same??
However, shouldn’t the Ezbook 3 Pro v4 have the Home version of Win10?! KMS activation does not work for Home editions, Professional and Education only.
The only difference would be the very specific “Win10 Home Chinese Domestic Market” version, which actually only activates the Chinese verssion of Win10. I’ve seen this aswell in your videos just like the temporal licenses, which I’ve actually never seen before. You never stop learning I guess."

I just received this machine and the trackpad is fine - it has some software on it to choose sensitivity options. I am not sure if this is the enhancement, but the responsiveness and accuracy is great.
My issue is that it has a sealed battery as far as I can tell. Does anyone know how to order a replacement or to reduce degradation by turning the charging function off (therefore prolonging its life)?
If you know what you are doing i would recommend doing a fresh install that way can be more confident that there is nothing nasty on there and put mind at ease.
I did a fresh install on mine and doesn't seem to have any issues, so should be fine for others but don't blame me if anything does go wrong :smile:

The screen is beautiful and the laptop feels really well made. I got version 4 of the laptop and the track pad seems great. It should serve me very well. Can't imagine getting something better for the price.

Personally I would do a full reinstall of windows (switch the boot drive first to the new SSD). The Windows 10 key is in the UEFI BIOS so you just need to create a Windows 10 USB stick - microsoft.com/en-…s10

Early thoughts - I love it! Great screen, keyboard and trackpad (keyboard is much better than that of my Onda 21). Wireless is as fast as my fibre (52Mbps). Build is brilliant, feels oddly premium! EMMC is slow in benchmarks but seems fast in use due to the decent 4k read figure. My 128GB Kingspec SSD is much quicker though - Windows is installing on it as I type.
However, there are two things which will definitely drive me nuts! Firstly, why is the AC adapter lead so short?! I want to buy a replacement 12v 3a adapter which is longer and with a UK plug - anyone found something suitable? Secondly, there is no print screen button! Arrrrrrgh! My OCD is going nuts (although the snipping tool is working fine :smile: ).

SSD eventually went in ok after some faff...windows 10 wouldn't install at first - not sure if the SSD wasn't seated properly or I was using an older Windows 10 installer - either way, fixed now.
For anyone who wants to install Windows from fresh, backup your Windows\System32\Drivers (and possibly Driver Store) folder first. This contains all the missing drivers from a fresh install. You'll need to go into device manager and for each missing driver, search the backed up folder.
