Came across this cheap Core i3 CPU. Currently 25 in stock. The £27.98 Price is inclusive of P+P.

I think you'll struggle to get a new motherboard due to the age of the cpu. The cheapest used ones are 50 pounds on eBay and many are not compatible with this cpu despite having the right socket (some intel ones IIRC).

DDR3 is expensive at the moment too. Not knocking the deal OP, for the right person this looks like a bargain.

If I'm wrong about the motherboards would love to know as I am half looking for one to replace the pegatron one I pulled from an hp business machine.

It's good that they have the two year warranty because I hear they're terrible when it comes to shipping computer components. The oft reported CPUs being shipped loose in jiffy bags without the plastic shells or any kind of ESD protection is one thing, but I've seen someone on here say they even sent a graphics card the same way! Best to only go that route if they have it in stock at a store near you to save the hassle.

On the note of 1155 motherboard demand, my brother has one sitting in a drawer after upgrading recently: GA-Z68X-UD4-B3, but it might have a faulty USB3 header on it. Would sell for around £50 if anyone's near.

The i5 3330 is a good buy there for £35 or so. That is about the limit I would spend on such an old platform though. Spend any more and you may as well go full Kaby Lake and get the G4560 for £50 and a platform with big potential for upgrades later.

The absolute best way to get value out of it is to keep an eye on the CPU/Motherboard combos on eBay. Sandy/Ivy Bridge i7s are still very competitive with modern CPUs, and people selling in this category often don't know or care about the legacy value of the platform. So you'll see bundles with those i7s, a high quality board, maybe some RAM and even a HSF for little more than what others are selling the motherboards alone.

I haven't seen anyone using the i5 3330. It has a TDP of 77 watts, (the original chip has a TDP of 35, the i3 in this thread has a TDP of 55, that is as far as I would like to go without replacing the cooling). Also, the i5 3330 does not support ECC RAM so I don't think it'll work in the HP.
