Great little server for the price, can be easily converted to a NAS box. Processor a bit underpowered but it can be upgraded.
Has dual NIC's and a ILO card.
Note £98.31 is the cashback price, it's £156.64 before cashback.
Plus VAT it is £187.97 (less the cashback) Plus delivery £3.28 to a local store (I think this is the cheapest) -jasee

Would this cope with a plex server running mainly local movies and also a windows server 2008 via ESXi 6.5 after upgrading the processor ? Thanks

I have managed to get 7 drives and a DVDROM in my HP Gen7 Microserver  FreeNAS boots from 2 mirrored flash drives and uses a separate 16GB PCIE ssd for the System partition (so that USB sticks are used in read mode, not write).

I have a gen 7 and the extra space at the top is real handy. The processor is too slow for any decent transcoding though which is why I am looking at the gen 8 since you can at least upgrade the CPU, choices choices :unamused:

I've got gearbest.com/tv-…tml (with KODI running as an app) which will be future proof for at least a couple years and I don't need to run a more powerful CPU which would increase the electricity bill. I have 3 torrent disks which run 24/7 without any spin down and I have configured other disks which store data to turn off after a couple hours. All the benefits and no disadvantages

How would this be for a development environment running Sql Server, SharePoint etc?

No real reason why not.

It's a little weak in all areas to be running that. Better value with other servers for your needs. Just my 2p

Surely a Gen9 is better as it's very similar money. Also, don't you need a license for the iLO?

Been using one of these for my Plex server for about 18mths to 2 years. It easily copes with transcoding one 1080p for sending outside home network while simultaneously direct playing another 1080p on same network and this is with no upgrades to the server and also I lowered the CPU to low power mode. I've never needed it to do any more so not sure what it can handle beyond this. Hope this information helps somebody.

Set it up with freenas, your going to want atleat 8gb ram though but it's the best thing i ever did.
I use 16gb RAM, old 1090T Phenom and 2 3tb Reds. Does Transmission Torrents, Subsonic Music streaming, Plex, CCTV record, fileshare and PC backups. Awesome setup for the price.

A PC deal that doesn't mention a single spec apart from the dual NICs is unusual! These are ridiculously good value though.

For those who can't afford or find a compatible Xeon the Intel Core i3-3220T is a decent option. I used to have this server with a 3220T in it and it handled Plex brilliantly, whilst running Server 2012 R2. I had to upgrade to 8GB ECC RAM as well though.

No PCIE on these from what I recall, which is a pain otherwise I'd upgrade my N54L.

Forgive my ignorance, is it possible to set this up with 4x4TB WD reds in 2x2 mirror using the box as both a NAS for my PC's and Plex server for our tablets/TV's, if so this could replace half a dozen Sammy M3's and WD Mybooks, which would be nice.

The simple answer is yes, you can either put a Windows OS on this or do what I did and put this software on, works a treat: freenas.org/ - the OS can even be stored on a USB stick leaving your HDs free for storage

Thanks Bob, much appreciated, now need to find somewhere to transfer all my portable storage data to salvage the drives out of them.

Any info on which ones it can take? I'm looking to create a plex media server which can transcode a couple of 1080p streams at the same time.

Its socket 1155 iirc. I went for a Xeon E3-1220v2 for mine, bagged off eBay for about £80

Discounted due to the new Gen10 microserver. I would prefer this model over the new one CPU wise.

You should list the including-VAT price in the title, since that's what most folk will pay.
