Great deal, direct from Hive website. Under £80 if you already have a hub through one of the various British Gas promo's where they gave out hub + lights, or hub+sockets.
There are hubs for that price, but they've been registered, so are completely worthless!

The complete central heating only version with the original stat is still available from toolstation for £60. No difference in functionality or support, just a more traditional looking stat which you'll probably never look at anyway.
No more heating and water ones left if that was what you need.

I got the heating and hot water one from toolstation a month or so back but haven't yet installed it. Do you know if it will work with a combi boiler so the hot water will still just kick in on demand? Thanks

Think you need the hot water only one.

Ah, hopefully I can swap it for that one

Central heating only. They don't do a hot water only :nerd:

I have hive with a combi boiler, it is the hot water and heating one, works perfectly. Hot water on demand as always.

Brilliant - thanks for the clarification  So it just connects up to the boiler as normal and in the app what setting do you have the water on? Just turned off so the boiler does it on demand

You can’t change any settings with the water with a combi boiler. It is what it was always like with your hot water

Thanks for the help. At least I don't have to send it back

I have the original hive fitted, will this just replace my old temperature control?

I think you would need to feel very confident about writing the programmer or else this is going to cost a heck of a lot for a professional to make good your DIY efforts.

Anyone give me some advice on this, we just moved into a new house it has no thermostat just a combi boiler in the garage with a timer on it, and there are thermostatic valves on the radiators which i think are useless IMO as you have to adjust each one etc..
so can i connect a thermostat to the boiler in the garage and take the display/control unit part into the home?

You connect a wireless receiver to the boiler. Thermostat is the display/control unit. This sits in your house on the wall or portable. Then you need a hub connected to your router.

Is the self install easy enough for someone with a bit of DIY sense or is it recommend a professional does it?

Ultimately it's just a few wires from the reciever into the boiler (for me it replaced the controller that I had as a snap on part of the boiler) and think the power runs via the reciever too.
Not something you want to mess with if you aren't sure, you don't want to screw up your system or electrocute yourself after all. identifying the right terminals on boiler can be tricky if not clearly marked out or in same terminology as Hive (check online for details of your boiler, installers forum etc ) - but once you have that sussed it's easy enough.
Ive a combi boiler with the Heating &HW hive system, works fine and future proofs for when I move to a house with both needed & take the hive with. Just don't connect up reciever HW wires, leave empty terminals.

What type of wire do you need? My current set up has three core flex.

5 core is ideal, but there's no harm using 2 x 3 core

Amazed why anyone really needs this when compared to a timer set close enough to daily needs

I have a combi with standard (?) Brit Gas wireless thermostat. Would I be right that the existing small receiver box has to be replaced with the equivalent Hive unit and then a further box also has to be connected to the router via ethernet, or is it more complicated than that?? Also, it looks like the Hive boiler controller (i.e. the small square box wired into the boiler) is pretty much the same size as the existing receiver of the BG wireless thermostat. The Hive website speaks of interchangeability with certain other systems. Is the old style BG wireless thermostat one of these, so the box is is just physically swappable ?

You have the best set up for this. Clip the receiver off the wall, and clip the hive receiver in its place as they use the same back plate and same wiring configuration. The hub just plugs in to your router.

(Or hive hubs are going for under £20 on ebay).
