I think that was one of the upgrades with the V2 is that it can be mounted on a stand, the V1 has no option for this

I installed mine yesterday. It's a bit odd that the manual doesn't tell you how to control the physical thermostat (doesn't seem that intuitive to me!). Also is is possible to get a stand for - I can only see the v2 one for sale?

1 Sep 17#58
Will this need to be disconnected from the boiler or the old timer
johnwillowlfc
1 Sep 17#57
I would probably say it cannot do that as the thermostat back plate screws will not match up with the recessed box, also its battery powered so no need for a recessed box unless you somehow convert to a mains powered thermostat
badheadday
1 Sep 17#56
The installation guide mentions that the thermostat back plate can fit directly to some type of existing fitting. Maybe a 240V recessed box?
johnwillowlfc
1 Sep 17#55
Yes you should disconnect the old thermostat and the hive receiver should be wired up next to the boiler. My recommendation would be to remove the old thermostat off the wall and just replace with a blanking plate so it hides the holes unless you are good with plastering

31 Aug 17#50
Im fuming. When I ordered mine I chose pick up in store. I got a confirmation to pick up from store and that it would be ready in 10 minutes. I drive down to the store to be told that the order had been put down as a delivery to store and that the stock had been sent back to the distribution centre that morning. The guy said not to worry and it would probably be back in 2-3 days. Just before I arrived at the store I told a mate about the deal (2 hours after I ordered) and they ordered one to be delivered. This morning I get a cancelled order email and my mate gets one in the post. I rang up and they gave me a load of BS about stock levels. I explained that my mate get hers and she ordered 2 hours after me and that I was given a confirmation to pick up in 10 minutes which was not possible. The girl started cracking on as if the store stock had not been processed in time which was not true.

Mines a combi boiler I scratched my head for a while watched a few videos and mine I wired up like so Neutral, Live, Common, CH On. Definitely look at the wiring diagram of your existing system though before you anything take a picture. Good luck ><... I love how vague the instructions are though.

Very few left in store now, wouldn't be surprised if this is just selling off old stock and none will be delivered.
As for fitting, picked mine up yesterday (last one in the North West of England at Rochdale) and it fits straight on to the existing timer back plate, no wiring necessary.
Remarkably easy.
Edit - just checked and there are way more in store than yesterday so looks like there is quite a bit of stock around.

Anyone know what the difference is between the off tab and the manual tab in the android tab? I know the temp can be controlled via both so wondering what the difference was.
Tigger21 to EN1GMA
29 Aug 17#37
I THINK you're right in your interpretation - "OFF" is basically frost-prevention, and will only turn on heating as it approaching freezing. Manual will try to keep it above your specified temp, and will keep it there 24/7. So not much fundamental difference. I've had the V1 for a couple of years, and the thermostat/controller is APPALLING, and I never use it! However the Android/Ipad/Windows interfaces are "consistently inconsistent"! The main temperature dial operates differently in each of them, and the Ipad app insists on being landscape mode, although in Android it's quite happy in portrait! If I could justify the expense of upgrading to V2 I would, like a shot, but it wouldnt alter the usefulness of the system.
EN1GMA to Tigger21
29 Aug 17#38
You've no idea the trouble I had when I first got it. Apparently there was an issue with the android app affecti some users. Took over 4 weeks to resolve.
Its summer so I wasn't that upset. Will await winter when I can check out the system. In theory it sounds great. No more times where we're put away and the heating comes on because we forgot to adjust the schedule

As this has a battery powered thermostat, does anyone have any advice for what to do with the wires from an existing mains powered thermostat?
johnwillowlfc to cheesebox
28 Aug 17#6
You can just disconnect them from your boiler and place a blanking plate in its place, or you can use the wires to connect the hive receiver, however the receiver is best placed next to the boiler
SewerSide to cheesebox
29 Aug 17#35
I used some choc block (toolstation.com/sho…539) to just link the wires in the mains thermostat, and put that inside the back box, with the Hive thermostat mounted on the front. Otherwise the heating wouldn't come on, as the circuit goes [Control box] - [Old Thermostat] - [Boiler].
Make sure you check wiring diagrams though!

28 Aug 17#26
Couldn't resist at this price. If in the future the smart part goes pop as in the Android app no longer works, can everything be done via the control panel?
Will this show a chart of how often the heating system has had to come on during the day? I'm trying to be efficient as possible so if this had a log of usage that would be brilliant.

29 Aug 17#31
Have a look on YouTube there is a video on there of someone showing the information you can get from a browser on his laptop, shows a fairly comprehensive control system with information such as when the heating came on over the course of a day, week. I did read in some other comments that this data does just pile up over time so you send up with one long timeline, hopefully they will have fixed this already although I won't be installing for a couple of months.

johnwillowlfc to 1616french
28 Aug 17#28
Yes you can have different zones in your home so you can have the heating on downstairs and not upstairs, people who have this setup would need two thermostats to regulate the temperature in each zone

Should be just a matter of finding a wiring diagram for yours then comparing the 2. Both will have L & N. Then its just a matter of finding HW on H on HW off and H off.

Functionality via the app is exactly the same - I bought this version last time it was on here for this price and as I didn't have an existing room thermostat, I wanted something to try to be more efficient anyway. Plus I now have the ability to switch heating on in winter remotely on our return, when we've been away on holiday, so not coming home to a freezing house!
It's fairly simple to install but did take me nearly a whole day to figure out the wiring and sort an awkward wiring access to my boiler's main board to connect it correctly, but that's because I didn't have an existing thermostat, just a basic pin wheel timer on the boiler itself. If you have an existing room thermostat/programmer, it'll be very straightforward.
I now also have motion sensor, door sensor and lightbulb connected too. These cost more than the initial system!

I've already got a Hive Hub for Wifi Light Bulbs that I got free with British Gas. I believe you should be able to add this thermostat to the existing Hive Hub if you have one rather than connect the one up you get in this package. Maybe sell it on eBay for a few quid or keep as a spare.
Also stay away from the accessories as they're an obvious rip off i.e >
