As "goods that have been designed solely for disabled people"?

I assume it was a joke...

Perhaps, but with this having been posted under "entertainment" and "fashion", among other mostly non-eligible categories, I wouldn't be surprised to see it being misinterpreted.

Indeed a joke on the basis that you have to be mad to pay their prices.

It is a shame that Apple's prices are so high because their accessibility features are very, very good; especially for the visually impaired who, thanks to software such as VoiceOver, can keep in touch and stay connected with folk. When phones with physical buttons started go out of fashion, my wife was very worried but VoiceOver has made it much easier to use smart phones and iPads.

My Mrs got her vat back on an Apple Mac from Stormfront about four years ago. They couldn't work out how much the voice over and access facilities were worth on their own so didn't charge any VAT at all!

A friend of mine has a daughter with Cerebral Palsy.
Loads of the stuff she needs is hellishly expensive.
Would this be of any help to him or is it an adults only arrangement?

If bought for the daughter and it was a disability product, then yes. They would probably have found this out already though (perhaps not the Amazon reclaim part) but for other products.

Not sure why you call it road tax, when it's not, but you can only claim it is you have higher dla, higher pip or two other things. You would tend to have been told you can claim vehicle tax at the time you claimed/recieve these. It's a pain though as you have to apply every year even with the new taxing system. Also technically nobody else can use the car for their needs.

Amazon are very quick when they receive the form - we applied approx 3ish months back after buying some disability stuff and they'd refunded by the end of the same week.

I'm disabled. In most situations, it would cost you more to take advantage of VAT free products since they have to be designed for disabled people which comes with its own price tag.
Cheaper versions of such products are nearly always designed for everyone and you won't be able to claim VAT back on this.

Just bought a car seat for our little girl from Amazon. She is registered as disabled would this qualify does anyone know?
Illusionary to Blackhorse

Without knowing the specific details of the car seat that you've purchased, we're not in a position to say, but here's the guidance from HMRC. If in doubt, you could check with the manufacturer and/or with Amazon.
Goods that have been designed solely for disabled people You won't have to pay VAT on any goods that have been designed by the manufacturer
solely for use by disabled people. Eligible goods include white canes or whistling cups for
blind people, vibrating pillows for deaf or hard of hearing people, invalid wheelchairs, TENS
machines, Braille embossers and incontinence products.
What HMRC mean by 'designed solely for disabled people' This means that the original intention of the product's designer was to produce an appliance
or equipment solely to meet the needs of people with one or more disabilities.
Goods that are designed for use by disabled and non-disabled people alike can't be bought
VAT free. Goods that are bought to be used by or that are mainly bought by disabled people
can't be bought without VAT unless they're designed solely for use by disabled people. For
example, general purpose equipment such as a laptop, an air conditioning device, a reclining
chair or an orthopaedic bed might benefit a disabled person but can't be bought VAT free
because they're not designed solely for use by a disabled person.

Thanks. Worth pointing out claims must be made within 3 months of purchase, mine was refused as I was a few days out (I never knew they paid back VAT until now)

Anyone with such a condition will already be aware of the products available, but may not have known that they were able to purchase via Amazon, so that's useful. I hate that most advice you get suggests specific suppliers that are often well overpriced for the items they sell and work out bad value even with the VAT off.
One example was a T-Loop system I purchased last year. The recommended suppliers wanted £120+ for it. Amazon was around £17 for the exact same product. If they have the items you need you can save a small fortune.
