This or a oneplus 5?

I have a oneplus 5, my brother has a pixel and I can easily say that their perfomance is pretty much identical, perfectly smooth
The pixel will have more updates and quicker, and without silly battery drain issues etc that can pop up with the oneplus 5
Also the Pixel's camera is fantastic, I've taken some good photos with my op5, but they dont compare.
OP5 is still a brillint phone though.

Pixel tbh. Quality of the phone and also OS is unmatched. The One5 is great and all spec wise but the OS which u interact with on a daily basis is lacking. Ridiculous draining issues, heating issues etc. Plus the one5 doesn't get quick updated like pixel does from Google, with the pixel you'll always get the latest official version of Android from Google asap (no waiting around for months at a time such as with other Android devices)

Big plus with oneplus is the dual sim, plus much more storage.

£400 for an outdated quad core phone? Not likely. That spec shouldn't go over £200 now.

Something like the Motorola G5 which is very similar (except that it has an OCTA core processor, expandable memory etc. etc. and starts around £169).
It's not a patch on this phone. This has a much much better camera for a start. It is faster, with twice the memory, a 4k video camera etc. And only 4 months older that the G5

It the Google software update s which makes this phone special. Otherwise old hardware from last year . The biggest problem with Android is no software updates. I have old iPhone which is on latest version of iOS and new Android phones which will never see any updates, even after a serious virus vulnerabilites. So this phone holds value because of software not hardware

Basemark OS II Google Pixel: 2901 Motorola G5: 952 Just because it's Octa Core doesn't mean it's faster. The GPU is also better on the Pixel as it's an Adreno 530 as opposed to Adreno 505 on the G5.
The Pixel is actually still in top 15 of fastests phones at the moment. Not to mention that since it's pure Android it will be snappier than a phone with similar benchmark results.

People are so dumb to buy quad core phones these days man..... It's like.. how on earth does anyone use a smartphone that isn't at least octocore for average smartphone tasks?! Ridiculous. /s

You forgot to mention it's a Snapdragon 821 quad core with an Antutu score of 145,387
I think that puts things in to perspective. The so called quad core 821 isn't doing too bad a job is it? Obviously not. So probably best to think more before you post.

Decent price, and lowest its been. But I don't understand why anyone would drop £400 on a phone that will be replaced with the second model in two months in October. Don't get me wrong the camera is still top notch on the device, but the same should be said for the capacity, 32gb is too small in todays world and you cannot expand this device with an SD card.

Don't get why people assume previous flagship chipsets underperform as soon as a new soc is out. People with that mentality buy a new flagship every year are wasting their money! The day to day use will be almost the same bar playing few new intensive games but how many people really do that? not much. A good deal however I wouldn't personally get 32gb
wild_quinine
9 Aug 17#34
the only thing outdated about the spec of this phone is the storage capacity. From a consumer perspective, 32 GB should really only be sold where expandable memory is an option, at least for flagship devices

lovely phone but I expect more than 32GB for £400

9 Aug 17#36
Give me the XL with 128GB storage and I'd be all over this, but otherwise I agree that 32GB isn't enough for any flagship, especially without expandable storage...
I am looking to a new phone too, undecided after previously being spoilt by the price and spec of the Oneplus One.

I wish people stop with this "octa-core" rubbish, it means nothing, you primarily see cheap Chinese phones with bad Mediatek chips bragging about that, and they perform like garbage, as others have mentioned, the quad core processor in this Pixel still outperforms many of these "octa-core" handsets

9 Aug 17#40
The interesting thing of course that the camera quality is due to clever HDR software, so the hardware should have scope to be much cheaper considering the memory they've included....

I can easily illustrate how the Pixel still competes with many of this years current flagships (if not all) but that would be pointless given the level of tech awareness I have read in the above posts.
However, some posts by the uninformed make me chuckle here.. especially comparisons with Moto G5 (really!?) so I had to comment!
For starters the Pixel has both a compass for accurate navigation and NFC for Android Pay.
Secondly the SD 821 CPU in the Pixel is second to only the latest SD 835 (and the latest Exynos from Samsung).. one of this years flagships.. i.e. LG G6 has the same CPU as the Pixel so it cannot be that outdated/rubbish!
Storage wise its UFS storage so it means super fast write/read speeds! Granted the Pixel has a base storage of 32GB but Google give you unlimited uploads/storage for native resolutions images/videos in Google Photos for Pixel users (that is a big plus compared to clunky SD card technologies).
The Pixel user experience is still smoother than the Xperia XZ Premium/HTC U11/LG G6/Galaxy S8/One Plus 5 etc.. it is on par with iOS on the iPhone so the £399 investment is more than worth it in my humble opinion.
Lastly but definitely not the least.. camera performance was so far ahead last year that it is still in the top 2 out there including this years flagships!
Peace out! :face_with_monocle:

You forgot arguably the most overlooked but really important factor - Pixel will get the monthy critical security patches and will get an update to Android O (and most likely P). Something you cannot say for 90% of the other android manufacturers.

It's worth bearing in mind the End-of-life for the Pixel, although as you say, this will at the very least guarantee updates to Android O along with continued security patches:
That being said - the Pixel is compatible for the new 'Android Treble' project which supposedly should help with updating patches to android without having to rely on device manufactures - so potentially we could see an extended service period

Thanks for posting this. My daughter's old Xperia Z is dying, so I was looking for a decent phone to get her. I came on here and saw this. That will do nicely, A couple of
extra pounds via Quidco (not quite as uch as if I had gotten the Carphone Warehouse deal from a few days ago). DPD will be dropping it off tomorrow. I notice that mobiles.co.uk and Carphone Warehouse are the same company! This new phone takes a nano SIM, but
fortunately my daughter's phone has a Virgin nano SIM in a Micro SIM holder, so that can swap over. Result.
