I have a smart TV that supports casting but my laptop doesn't. Will this resolve that problem?

Yes, you can cast via chrome and use apps such as videostream.

SWEEEEEEEEEEEET!!, I recall asking a very similar 'casting' from Windows Laptop question some time ago? (wayyyyyyy back last year sometime?).
But the answer at the time was to no avail ...
Thanx for that, hehehe. :-)

There is Plex too which is quite famous. There is currently a free 3 month trial for the pro version. Look for the code in one of the recent threads.

Could always buy 2 for £35 using the £5 off £35 spend code. Beats the £19 then.... If buying with someone else or needing 2 obviously.

Save £5 when you spend over £35 on selected Electricals and Gaming using TDX-HMFR
Save £10 when you spend over £75 on selected Electricals and Gaming using TDX-HYTP
Save £20 when you spend over £150 on selected Electricals and Gaming using TDX-WFTW

I've purchased one, but I've no idea what it does...Lol Do you need Bluetooth on your tv or just the internet? And a HDMI..?

23 Aug 17#47
The Chromecast plugs into an HDMI port on your TV. It then needs to connect to Wifi and your laptop needs to connect to the same Wifi. If you use Chrome as your browser then you can "send" videos such as Youtube to the Chromecast.

How does this compare to the original? I have the first version and just dusted it off to use for BT Sport App to TV. I also have just got the Amazon echo, though only find useful for turning hue lights on and off and asking weather. Seems dum for usual questions as she never knows.
Would this be a no brainier upgrade for the twenty pound to make the other redundant

Does google have plans to release newer version? Just wondering why the price drop?!
amour3k to Lats
23 Aug 17#39
If that be actually the case, then why not?.
After all, this particular Google Chromecast 2 version, has been out almost 2 years now? (yep, 2 years already?!, lol).
And things like NOW TV version 2 Boxes have been been randomly dropping to the £15 mark where everyone else has been selling them for £35!, and selling them randomly for the £10 mark where everyone else has been selling them for £30! (I know, as I've been hooking them up as such when they are allllll those above respective prices ... )
And the NOW TV version 2 Box has arguably been out for longer?!. So why have both of them cheaper now?.
After all, the NOW TV line of Boxes, are debatabley the more sophisticated of the 2 Devices too!, so ..... :-)

Looking to get one of these as an easy way to get streaming media to a projector without clutter as this can just sit in a HDMI and probably even be powered from the USB on the projector. Thinking of getting 2 for £35 with the code but I'm still debating holding off until after the bank holiday just in case an even better deal pops up somewhere. Is there much danger of this deal going? The code is said to be good till 1st Sept, only issue is if they raise the price of the Chromecast but surely that would be a daft move when it's £20 or less all over lately?
Anyone think there is any hope of a sub £17.50 (£35/2) Chromecast anywhere?

26 Aug 17#50
There is always hope but it has not been as cheap as this for a long time I was waiting nearly a year for this price so bought a second one at £19. Before these offers was much higher so 2 at £17.50 each a good deal could be cheaper black Friday but not much or not at all would buy today if I were you in case stocks run out.

Thanks, I actually got one (only needed one really, was just going to buy two to get the £5 off) from Currys at £19 but I got the quidco £2.50 cashback on a purchase over £10 so provided the cashback gets honoured it's £16.50 but if not I can live with it at £19, better than having a second one I didn't really need....
