Looks absolutely huge on the wrist, esp for my wife who is quite petite? Any real life experience?

are you asking if your wife is petite and has real life experience?
well I cant say how large or small she is as I have never met her, is she an mmo junkie? if she is into esports this watch really isn't aimed at that.

Does look rather chunky. Maybe get a fatter wife?

Posted this also, great price, I've been waiting for this to drop below £200 for a longtime. There may be a newer Garmin coming soon but it will be much more expensive than this.

Seems a good price but the HRM is rubbish so better of with the 230 and use a strap if you require accurate heart rate data.

Presumably you can pair with a strap and use that instead
JellyFox1 to Orbdemon
26 Aug 17#11
You can pair it to the basic strap but not the HRM-RUN/TRI etc (you need a more advanced watch for those), but there's no need, straps aren't all that great anyway.

Good price for a decent watch, note that there's a warehouse deal sitting there at £166.47 so go for that if you want it cheaper.
The watch face is a good size and typical for a Garmin running watch, you'll get 4 fields on it which is ideal (pace, distance, time elapsed, heart rate). The elevate HRM on this is pretty good, never had any issues with it myself (I don't have fat wrists).
Have a read of DC Rainmaker's in-depth review for more info.

So it says, I've bought a fair few warehouse items this year and they've all looked new, possibly been opened before or the box has been bashed but this doesn't bother me. Plus if you're not happy with it just return it.

Great watch. Well worth it at this price, great accuracy and info when linked to the app, not that large on the wrist at all!

Had this for just under a year. Wrist based HRM is OK most of the time but has the odd glitch which can distort the analysis quite badly. Personally I would go for the 230 with a strap if I could get it at a decent price.

Can you give me an example of the types of glitches you're experiencing and how they're effecting your analysis?

The heart rate will sometimes spike for a few seconds which then messes up the graphs and the times in the various heart rate zones.
JellyFox1 to stephenashforth
26 Aug 17#16
Interesting, do you have a screen shot of this? How frequently is this happening to you and how long are you running? I can't imagine a spike of a few seconds having that much effect on your average HR on a 30 - 60min run, certainly not enough to warrant ditching the on wrist monitor and going for a soggy chest strap.
stephenashforth to JellyFox1
26 Aug 17#17
I am not sure how well you can see this but there is a spike up to 180 beats about half way through. This was a hike rather than a run.

26 Aug 17#21
Yeah I see what you mean and that does seem a bit odd (unless you had a cardiac arrest). Perhaps it lost track of your HR or something, if it's happening all the time you could have a faulty unit as I predominantly HR to train and don't experience this.

Considered this before plumping for the 735xt, pleased I did as I wasn't aware you couldn't use it with hrm run / tri. Depending how serious you take your running, the extra information the hrm provides can be quite interesting. Size wise, think oreo, that's what dcrainmaker compares them too in his excellent reviews.

I must have huge wrists because mine looks normal sized compared to the picture above.
Good watch with decent battery life (when GPS is off). HR monitor can be a bit questionable but I've compared it with a chest strap against similar HIIT sessions and the results have been relatively consistent.
If you're an elite athlete obsessed with data then there are better options but if you just want to track workouts through Garmin Connect/ Strava with limited data then this is perfect.
The added bonus of viewing text notifications on your wrist is quite handy when you're driving.

Absolutely steal at this price. Ignore the comments about the hr bring unreliable it works absolutely fine. Battery runs and runs and there are some great navigation aids like the dwmap application as well as the ordnance survey grid reference add on that gives you the os grid reference. Heat from me.

I bought one of these a few months ago - but returned it because I thought it looked to tacky and cheap plastic finish. I now have a Fitbit Blaze which I find suits my needs much better and looks great too.

Had loads of issues with the HR on my 235 so ended up returning it and got a 230 instead. Size is fine (actually probably more than fine, its ideal for me really).

I have this watch I have had it about a year. It's not at all huge and the wrist heart rate sensor works great 95% of the time. I find it's only unreliable if it's been sat around not being charged but still on. If I charge it just before a run or reset it, it's always accurate. It had a rubbish battery life when it was new but firmware updates have fixed that. For this price it's a great watch for more serious runners.

I have girly thin wrists and it looks fine on me.
Wrist HRM is very hit and miss, in the gym on the bike machine it will read 20bpm higher than it should for about 15 mins, then it settles down. All day tracking is good to give you an idea of resting HR, though I find its results are less accurate than Fitbit.
Straps are much more accurate, but I find they fail after a year normally. They start giving out random readings constantly even with a battery change. I have had Polar, Wahoo, and a none brand I recently bought got £20 from Amazon. Not actually used Garmin but reviews for their own straps are mixed.
It is a good watch though, I bought it at £200 during an Amazon deal at Christmas and I thought it was worth it then.

Excellent price for this watch. Heat added.
I was torn between this and the 630. Went for the 630 in the end as it has more detailed running stats (lactate threshold, vertical oscillation etc.) but it lacks the optical HRM. Had it for about a week and it's excellent but it doesn't feel as solid as my old 410 which took hundreds of knocks and bumps. You can get a second hand 630 for about £160ish on ebay.
