The Star Rover is an outstanding story. Written in 1915, the story of the journey of Darrell Standing.
Quoted from a review... In The Star Rover, London assumes the central identity of one Darrell Standing, a 40-year old ex-college professor, who is incarcerated in San Quentin prison in California, initially having been given a life sentence for murdering (in a fit of pique) a fellow college don, but is latterly waiting on death row, having been sentenced to be hanged following an assault on a prison officer.
I first read this over 30 years ago and it's stayed with me. I've recently started looking for a copy and found this.
Give it a read, it's beyond description, poignant, amazing, sad, shocking, impactful and exhilarating.
