This is true. The published weight limit is below most adult's weight. I wouldn't be without mine for the 3 kids though. Me and the missus use folding stools at the end and it's perfect. Mine was also from Argos in the sale for £15 and has lasted 3 years.
They do need folding carefully though as the struts can bend easily if not careful.
