Update. If you have more then one card from FD. Register them under separate accounts. That way you will benefit even more. Lets say u have a few current accounts or credit card. Register them separate. Remember this has to be VISA

I've just signed up and will use the Esso £5 off £40.A few Tesco Express shops are connected with an Esso station, so an option to buy giftcards.

£10 off a £40 spend at Lidl too. Stock up on booze. ;-)

No, it will be Esso.
I've done this in the past when Amex had a similar offer - £10 off a £50 spend. Once it was £5 back, but unlimited and I bought a few B&Q giftcards. Used via a trade card at B&Q.
If you buy a Tesco giftcard, you can also use that for petrol purchases, but only at Tesco and not Esso, although sometimes the staff unknowingly allow it.

It is legit - the lack of an email from First Direct probably just reflects the fact that these Visa Offers through them have only just started.

I can assure you it is legit. O did not get an email till this moment neither. But someone did. I knew ir is legit as same VISA offers available through Nationwide for years.

So I have a Visa Debit card and also Visa credit card from FD... Can I register both and will I get offers on both?

Edit: Just spoke to FD about some other matter but also confirmed this offer and you can register upto 5 cards including debit and credit....

You will probably be able to use the offer only once if registered on same account. I'd recommend registering cards under separate accounts.

Please note that it looks like the Esso offer only refers to Esso branded stations so excludes e.g. Esso stations with Tesco Express. Look at the map of nearest stations under the offer subpage.

I can see visa offers page clearly says offer available on all registered cards instead of just once per account. If later was the case then they would not let you register multiple cards with one account.

Will this work with Apple Pay instead of using the physical card?

Edited to say: I couldn't find it on the terms and conditions so emailed the offer provider. I asked FD in case they had a more in depth faq list, and they said the offers wouldn't work with a 3rd party wallet. This suggests it won't work but double checking with the visa offers help, which should get back to me within 5 working days.

They usually send you an email after a couple of days to confirm the cashback and then they credit your account a couple of days later.

My Tesco Express / Esso purchase didn't work......it's worked with AMEX in the past but this Visa offer hasn't turned up. :cry:

Really? How long did you wait? They typically take 2-3 days to notify that you've successfully redeemed the cashback.

Filled up last Thursday evening, account charged Friday. I used the same card in Boots on Saturday £5 was in the account on Monday.

How odd. The Esso (Tesco) Expresses are definitely Esso branded still but perhaps some or all are not participating. I've posed the question to VISA anyway and will report back once they've replied.

Seems like someone did not understand your question. And im pretty sure offers r nit matched to your spending. At least to start with. Also how can they match if there was no spending. And all cards we have come with the same offers. Would be interesting thou to change registered post code and see what happens.

I'm not sure I trust the store locations list as it is merely made up of a Google Maps search for "Esso"

Finally got an official response from VISA:

Thank you for your query and for using HSBC Visa Offers.

We can confirm that the offer can be redeemed at all Esso branded petrol station, including the ones with Tesco Express attached to it.

Just a heads up for the "stacker" massive.... u know who you are :raised_hand:

Boots today - Combine the following for some serious savings at Boots:
1) TCB for cashback
2) 20x Boots points of a £50 spend (ends today) £50 = 1000 points, i.e. £10 in reward points to spend
3) Use your HSBC/First Direct Card for £5 cashback off a £40 spend

I'm on my 8th order right now lol

@Proj Visa's intention is probably so you can use any of your registered cards to get the offer once. If you want multiple dips, it seems you have to register each card separately under a separate email address.
