TBH, I never understood people's fascination with metal phones (which blocks/interferes with wireless charging). I'd rather have a plastic or ceramic back and wireless charging rather losing that option in exchange for metal.
That said, you wouldn't really need wireless charging if phone manufacturers produced decent perfectly fitting charging docks at a low price... I don't see why every manufacturer can't simply do a rubber mold of the bottom of the phone which can then slot in / interchange with a standardised and universal micro USB charging dock.

How many people use their phone in a case?, your idea would work assuming no one used a case or I guess you could always take your phone from the case daily to charge, not ideal though

I never said it it was nice, functional or pretty. I was only pointing out that's how you use this to charge a iPhone in answer to someone.
