Stupid question but someone might know the answer. If I moved to an EU country for 6 months or 1 year, and had this deal, I could use it without a problem abroad right??? Or does the new roaming thing have a limit?

EE impose a European zone data roaming limit of 15GB per 30day period, and after 120 consecutive days abroad EE will start the 14day disconnection procedure.

Free roaming is meant for holidaying/relatively short period of time abroad. If you are going to another country for more than 2 weeks I don't think you will get charged extra but most probably data service will be severely limited. I would recommend getting cheap data sim from a local retailer.

After 2-3 months your data will either be chopped or cut off, plus just because you have 30gb per month in UK you may have only 12gb in EU, you need to check t&cs.
This is so it is not abused abroad.

Are you going to offer any extra info to back up that remark? It's a bit worthless if you don't tell us your experience with respect to these 'hidden charges' - surely in order to make this comment you must have had some, so it would be useful to forum members if you could embellish on this - certainly I'd be interested to know about it as I'm an EE customer so I'd like to know what to be wary of.

EE slowly merged Orange base stations and dismantled excess, EE is not what it was. My coverage was better on T Mob & with Orange roaming bonus, it's not as great as it was nor speed but care is much better than either.

Son is on EE, Daughter on 3.

They are both crap in places. But sometimes have covered where Vodafone and o2 don't!

So your opinion, not backed up by facts. As I can compare pretty easily. In fact in most places, 3 beats EE. I have EE as work phone, lots of places end up tethering to daughters 3 sim, to get any signal!

I have been with Three since 2013 and i can confirm this.. for calls and messaging its absolutely fine but try watching youtube at 1080p during the hours of 10am-1.30am,

Three limit their speeds to 5mb/s while isnt terrible and should be absolutely fine -- its not a constant 5mb/s. It cannot maintain that 5mb/s and will drop down to 3mb/s when it comes to streaming -- It doesnt matter if youre on 3G or 4G, they will just throttle speeds down so hard to make it absolutely pointless.

EE might throttle, but in my experience I have still managed to pull 20mb/s if not over that during the same hours.

This deal is a steal

misterleoni to alex_uk
8 Aug 17 #166
I think you only get F&F on contracts over a certain price. It's also only 30%. I have friends and family on my tariff and it's barely even worth upgrading because the tariffs are still now more expensive than via third parties even after the discount. I don't expect the person who claimed to get this deal to prove it as they probably can't - I've been with EE since the early days of One 2 One and have been friends with call centre staff over the years and I'm pretty sure a deal like that couldn't exist even if the CS rep wanted to give it to them. There's only so much discount they can give, unlike with Virgin who seem to be able to offer everything for £5.

The person could post a photo of their bill if they wanted to prove it, but frankly they probably can't be bothered (or simply can't). Either way this deal is still good and no normal person can get 30GB for £5 so best to just enjoy what you can get and move on

I've only tried the EE 4G Mini, it works well and I haven't experienced any issues. Typically lasts 4-5 hours off a full charge but I usually leave it connected to the USB port on my laptop. It supports bands B/G/N but not AC. There's no ethernet port though it can transmit data via USB if you install the Windows driver.

I paid £9.99 at Currys however that was a reduced price as I was signing up to a 30 day contract.
Off-contract they're £49 so there are probably better options available, there are several listings on eBay for £25-35.

Lots of people moaning that they get the same for cheaper. The thing is you don't if you're on another network. EE has better coverage and faster speeds than most other networks. 7 Aug 17 #46
Wow. Without calls minutes this really doesn't make sense. Also their customer service is astonishingly crap in EE - I signed up for one of those contracts in April, after activating my SIM card - made a call and most of the calls dropped due to poor network quality.

Called CS, after holding me for 1 hour on the line telling me useless things to try with my phone(I'm an engineer myself, they don't know what they are talking about), when clearly network is the issue(I tested that by having same issue when sim was in my other phone) - they told me that I'm free to leave them as still without the first 14 days and they are not going to try to do anything unless I keep following their ridiculous out of subject debugging tips.

They were refusing to get the call to the right person (read: trained they will be in trouble for any call passed to higher level managers), which helped with Three usually.

Though on EE - nothing. I then called back after a few days to cancel the contract - it took me another couple of hours(3 to be precise) ending up in a formal complaint I had to write by email after being thrown around / told "you're calling the incorrect department, we can't cancel the contract, nor can we transfer you to the correct one." "Took out the contract with a cash back offer - our partner has to cancel it for you, we can't help".

Called the partner - "we can't cancel any contracts, as the contract is taken out with EE Network, not us" - kind of expected, as the contract is legally binding with the network, and the cash back partner is not in that contract at all.

Took me 6 calls of being thrown between those companies, and as I said, only a formal 2-page long email helped.

Sorry for the rant! Good luck to anyone trying EE!

It's a data SIM. If you want a phone SIM get one with minutes. If you want a SIM for a data-only device like an iPad, it makes perfect sense. Having said that, I had a 12GB valid-for-a-year SIM in my iPad, and only used half of it, so 30GB a month would be total overkill for me. I'm sure it makes sense for others, though.

Been with EE for years. No point worrying about customer service as all the networks are bad if you get the wrong agent. A lot of them even use the same call centres!

You can't use a Three SIM in a mifi if it is a phone contract, and tethering is restricted to less than 30GB even when you use your phone as a hotspot, so comparing with them is irrelevant. How much is their 30GB mifi SIM?

Cold though as I get 40 million petabytes per month for 46p, and of course this site is all about how this price compares to my flukey one-off deal.

3 offer upto 1000GB (1TB) per 30day cycle on PAYG for £25 (edit: £35 from Aug 2017), all tetherable if using correct kit. Obviously that 3 deal is better value per GB, but this EE deal seems great for users requiring regular modest allowances and no mins/txts.

It's not a mobile broadband plan, it's (abuse of) a handset plan. And unless you can find some pre-paid AIO25 packs dated prior to Aug 2017, 3 will charge the 1000GB PAYG 30day allowance as £35 from Aug 2017.

I grabbed this deal last time around, it wasn't clear from the way they set out the invoice page on the website whether I would get it for half price or not, but I did. I've paired it with a Huawei B315 data station and ditched my cable broadband, there's only me in the house so no problem with capacity, plus when I go on holiday I can take thw SIM with me and put it in my MiFi unit.

Tried EE but the network is pants and oversubscribed.

The 4G network frequently had no throughput and have to switch to 3G to get it working.
The 4G network did get an impressive speed at 1am in the morning.

Voice works fine outside but indoors is poor compared to O2/Voda.

Asked at the EE shop, he said they are having 'occasional teething problems' with their 4G network and just select 3G only for reliable coverage.

It's all very well saying oh I've been with {insert mobile network operator's name here} and it was pants or is good but no use wasting your time if you don't say where you are and whether you checked coverage on their site beforehand.

I'm on EE and there are areas I frequent on daily/weekly basis which are Manchester, Preston, Blackburn, and the south of the Ribble Valley. Never had a problem, nor have I had a problem with their CS. It all depends on who you end up talking to when someone picks up the phone.

Last time I checked signal coverage on all the mobile operators' websites I was torn between EE and Vodafone when I checked key areas that I frequent year round. Three and o2 were lacklustre for my needs.

I used the Mercury One2One coverage map as my guide :face_with_monocle:
The EE coverage map said i was supposed to get 'Double speed 4GEE'

4G was never particularly fast (when it got throughput) except in the middle of the night.
EE replaced the sim several times saying they were all 'faulty'.
The EE shop finally admitted their 4G network was pants and to switch my handset to 3G only.

I've been with every network and its quite simple. Wherever you live and work get the network that works best for where you use it most, simple. There are places where one network will be better than others it doesn't blanket means its rubbish because you can't get it in your room.

Also this is a DATA SIM of course it has no minutes!! I use this for my tablet I still have a main sim.

I completely disagree with what you say, as a 3 customer moving to EE then to Vodafone, I never could fault 3's service, if I had to nitpick the lack of 2g when out in the "sticks' was the only downside with 3 but 4g coverage was great and back then also free compared to EE's crazy prices but then again I couldn't fault EE's service except crap retentions which made me migrate again to a rival network, maybe I'm just lucky but I never seem to have network issues like alot of people.

Got this the last time it came around, shortly after signing up they sent me a offer to double the data to 60GB if I signed up for 12 months @ £26. 8 Aug 17 #164
Anyone claiming they have 30Gb for £5 is full of it. There isn't a plan like that - they may have wangled a load of discounts by speaking to a weak advisor on the phone, but there isn't a plan of that amount,

'We’ve got your order, but we need a bit more information. We can’t deliver your device or SIM until we’ve spoken to you.

I tried logging in to EE site to add this as a second line, but the website wouldn't let me - I don't get the option to add a second line. So this morning I just ordered one without logging. A few minutes are someone from EE calls me and says they he couldn't process my order because they don't have this offer on their system and that I need to talk to customer services. I told him that I didn't understand why he was calling me in the first place since this was all meant to be done online and that a £2 credit check charge was already showing up on my credit card account. Also mentioned a lot of people don't realise it's only data, no minutes or texts. I asked if I could have the existing customer discount as well and they said it's only for 12 month contracts or more. After the call I got an email to say the SIM has been dispatched and should arrive Thursday. I currently pay about £20 a month on EE for a SIM only 16GB data unlimited texts / minutes (Maybe not unlimited I very rarely use either regardless but constantly hitting the 16GB).

If I buy one of these are there any really portable MiFi devices (ideally something I could put on my keyring for example) so I could just carry this round with me and connect my iPhone up using the WiFi? Then just have a PAYG SIM in my iPhone for the rare calls and texts I may happen to make?

Trying to think about the best way to go about it, but since 95% of my mobile use is data it makes sense in financial terms at the moment!
kar999 to johncas

You won't get a MiFi for the size of a keyring but most of the Huawei 4G ones are not much bigger than a box of Swan matches.

Got this deal over a year ago ... when it was 50Gb for £25 (compare that with my recent fling with Virgin Mobile... who charged £39 for 1Gb!!).

I use it to power the internet for all my devices when not at home. iPads, phones..

I got this originally with the EE mifi device (Osprey), but the battery life was not too good (3 to 4 hours). So I put it in my OnePlus 3 (which has the capacity for a dual SIM); one SIM card on PAYG with EE... the other providing massive data for all my devices when travelling.

However, I didn't want to put enormous demands on the battery in the OnePlus... so I got the Netgear Aircard (which, although expensive and not without faults, is serving me well).

EE are also not without faults (who is?)... but the combination of the cost and the ubiquitous coverage make this a deal not to pass by.

Thanks for reading.

(and please, nasty Troll people, pass me by; I am heartily sick of your worthless and superficial comments)

Would suggest this deal. Im on the 64GB for £16 deal when they messed up and then honoured it when people called.
Use the data every month.
Watch out for roaming, wanted to get this for my parents who have a house in Spain to use for the Internet. But im sure you can only use 15GB abroad with this, not 100% as i thought that was illegal now to ban tethering abroad. Might be thinking of capped roaming charges.

Shame they dont offer more data or unlimited. Tethering is essential for data SIMS. Would go to 3 unlimited if they offered tethering and didnt exclude it in their terms. Should be an offence to say its unlimited when you cant tether.
EE always been nice and friendly when i have called up with problems. UK based call centre as well.

The extra 5 destinations are

USA
Canada

NEW Zealand

So the answer to your question is yes. The data can be used in these places (Upto 15Gb)

Just ordered this for £15pm - does this £15pm last forever or does it go back up to £30 after a while?

Also got a 4GEE WiFi portable hotspot from eBay brand new for £40 (it's £80 on the EE website). Has anyone got any experience with this? Any good?

Looks like a great deal and I noted that existing EE customers could get 10% off so £13.50 per month. However, when I logged on to my EE account, I could not see a way to get this 30gb deal. When using the link in the original post, there is no option to log into the account so I was being treated as a new customer. Has anyone any advice on this? Thanks

The £15.00 will increase by Retail Price Increase annually so pennies rather than pounds.

The router, it really depends what you are going to use it for.

If its your main sourceof internet, long term, like me the Huawei B-315 is best. Huawei make the 4G upgrade equipment for EE masts, on my local mast anyway, so a Huawei is a good match.
If its short term use the eBay router will be fine, and less expensive, probably wont have an ethernet socket though

I've already got landline broadband at home, the portable 4G router is purely for internet when I'm out and about e.g. on the train or on holiday

I did this last summer. Sales team rang me and said if I signed up for 12 months they would give double data and 50% off. I have been paying £7.49/month for 64GB. I spoke with CS last month as contract was due to expire to see what deals they had. I was informed that no time limit had been added to contract. CS advised me to keep with current deal as they would never be able to match it! Very happy. Routinely get speeds of 40MB and up to 120MB

Simply put "the deal of the Century"

Have you got a number of contracts with EE, sounds like a glitch and you struck lucky.
But it is your first post, could you screen shot an online bill sans personal detail, to be fair it is hard to believe.
I've been with the company 12 years on a data plan and pay £30 for 100 Gb
So 30p a gb
your on 12p a gb the more I think about, I think your trolling

A lot of getting a good deal depends on the adviser you speak to.
I find the Newcastle call centre the most generous. You have to phone back and speak to someone else.
A few pages back someone got the £13.50 deal

Agree. I placed an order online and had to call the sales team to complete the order. Adviser confirmed my details and completed the order at £13.50 per month. Even mentioned that the £16.50 discount will stay till i cancel the contract.

I think if they sent you the MiFi device, its a 2 year deal. Thats what they told me anyway. At first was annoyed as it was supposed to be a year, but 64GB for £16 is very hard to beat. In my current job i do shift with hardly any work so having massive data is essential to me. Some days when football is on i can use 10GB in one day streaming in HD.

Going to have a look at that mate. Trying my phone over the weekend, try and pass around 30GB through it and see how the battery gets on. On 4 days at the minute under light usage, 9 hours screen time.

i went away and ran about 20gig through it with a laptop,2 mobiles and a tablet and it fried the insides(had to get it repaired and pay EE£25 to loan a device while they fixed mine)
the one i got off amazon just plugs into wither a usb wall plug, laptop, cig lighter etc and never needs a charge

For those wanting to get it for £13.50 for being an existing customer (think you have to be pay monthly)

- Log into MyEE account in a browser
- Scroll to the bottom and select "Fancy something a little extra?, SEE ALL PLANS"
- Select "Data Sims"
- Select "30 Days"
- Select the 30GB plan which should be showing as £27.00 instead of £30
- Then add the code at checkout

I placed my order online then was told to ring just to confirm and everything was fine £13.50 a month

Can be had for £13.50 if you log into an existing EE account and order as a second line.

I have 3 lines with them but just got this feedback from sales. "Additional line offer is not for data SIM and the actual price of 30GB deal is £30 however now on offer its just £15 so no other discount can be added."

guys, I just signed up to this offer yesterday. I have a shared plan with family so 5 lines in total, despite the crazy discount, they will not offer 10% even though at checkout it states it. Just going through a complaints process. Its not about the money, its the principal.

I ordered my SIM as an additional line yesterday and called them straight away and the adviser was happy to process the £16.50 discount. Getting the additional £1.50 discount seems to depend on who you speak to. If your order has not been processed at 15, call again as the next adviser will probably apply the additional line discount.

I just ordered online.

In my basket the voucher was applied, and by checkout it was back to full price. I competed anyway.

Called EE to confirm the discount, who are saying that my order has been 'referred' for credit check (just checked my credit rating and its 997 out of a possible 999) and the lady will ring me back later to apply the voucher manually.

Who wants to take a bet on the order being declined.......

Well !! i just tried to get this deal, i am a current ee account holder & low & behold, they gave me some rubbish that the deal shouldn't be linking direct to ee & they were in the process of getting it removed as it is a 3rd party deal, they would only offer me a cheaper deal if i agreed to a 24 month contract, so i cancelled my current deal & i'm going to try buying it via the link.

"Can be had for £13.50 if you log into an existing EE account and order as a second line"

Unfortunately EE did not honour this for me. Ordered it yesterday and it confirmed £13.50 in checkout, but it said I needed to call them. Called them and they said they wouldn't knock the extra 10% off for the second line. Really disappointed in EE for messing me around. Did anyone else have better luck?

14 Aug 17 #291
For those who have received their sim have you checked your bill, £30 - 50% in theory should be £15 but EE calculate it at £17.10.

The itemised bill is not £30 -50%, instead -5%, -20% & - 25% issue currently being investigated.

Phoned EE as I'd ordered mine separately from my account as it was failing. It hadn't moved at all so it's now been merged into my existing account. At least it means it's now been despatched, although I'm expecting to have been charged wrongly even though I clarified the amount on the phone!

Same experience - I couldn't add it as an additional line online last week but happy to pay £15pm so ordered it, but still not received 8 days later and when I rang then it's not been sent out as the order had been held up, she cited "teething problems" with some manual order system. But now on it's way and I heard her apply a £15 discount to my account.

You mean you are still thinking that Three piggy backs? Not for some time. In 2015, they used to drop back for 2g to EE, but even then your comment is complete rubbish.

If Three has good 4g reception, and EE has none, then Three will show good reception. EE will show the one bar of 2G

If threes reception fails, it will drop back to EE 2G, of which both phones will now show 1 bar.

So not nonsense then. Plus your "research" is 2 years out of date.

moneysavingexpert.com/pho…ing

But I'm sure it's just your opinion, so don't let facts get in the way of you thinking you're right, just being wrong when we look at the facts :-)
iancwatkinson
17 Aug 17 #301
Derek thinks its 2015 still and doesn't understand the difference between 4G/3G and 2G as Three only ever fell back to EE 2G signal for calls.

So as you say, if there is 3 signal and no EE, then Three will show signal and EE won't which is what I described :-)

17 Aug 17 #302
Hahaha, calm down! So MBNL is now defunct, abandoned?

Doesn't appear that way to me?

mbnl.co.uk/

Still a fair bit of RAN sharing goes on as far as I can see?
nublets2k
17 Aug 17 #303
Three and EE 3G share at most sites so signal should be similar, it's 4G where they have lots of variation as EE didn't want to give Three a leg up with 4G.

Three roaming is on Orange not EE, and it's not the same deal as MBNL.

MBNL is still very much alive, but it's only mast sharing for 3G, 4G is site and back haul.

Has anyone actually received their sim yet? I placed my order on the 9th, they called on the 10th to try and say I hadn't completed the order but I had the confirmation email and order number and surprise surprise she found the order but then hit me hard with the sales pitch and now still no sim :joy:
I called a few hours ago to chase the order and she said there had been a glitch meaning some orders haven't been processed correctly so she had to manually process my order and had to input it as a different discount and I'm now not convinced I'll be getting the correct deal.

I will say ive been on 32gb 14.50 for 5 months now and just went on EE chat to say im struggling to stay in the data and they just upgraded me to 64gb on 14.50 rolling no questions asked. If you have a period of loyalty I would try this out.

20 Aug 17 #307
I have an EE SIM in my Buzzard 2 in the car. The deal was half price so £14.50 on a 30 day contract for 32GB of data. I didn't and don't need any texts or minutes as the SIM remains in the Buzzard. I have never used more than 5GB of data but can't find a cheaper deal and EE can't offer anything either. My monthly charges have now been reduced to £13.50 due to EE making a billing error and giving me a loyalty discount. Any info on a cheap data SIM would be appreciated. 8GB - 10GB would suffice to be on the safe side.

20 Aug 17 #308
I had exactly the same problem a few months ago when I ordered my 32GB SIM. Waited for it to be delivered after everything being confirmed online. After a few days and it hadn't arrived I called them and they told me there had been problems with their online system and it was re-ordered. Arrived in 2 days and it hasn't let me down yet. As you spoke to someone on the phone I would reckon it is on its way. My SIM is only put in the Buzzard 2 in the car for Wifi. Also be aware that monthly payments MUST be made by direct debit and if you make any other payments they will charge you for them.

Managed to get the extra 10% off on the second attempt. At first they refused to apply two coupons but I pointed out the 10% off isnt a coupon and it was just shown when logging into the account, so he relented. £13.50/mth isnt as good as some posted here but I'm happy with that for now. The crux to getting 60% off is pointing out the extra 10% isn't a coupon.

Sorry for the late delay, i was told on the phone that they were telling existing customers that the 10% 2nd line offer wasn't to be used on this offer. the guy i spoke to had to speak to his line manager and when he came back on he stated that the 10% should apply as it's not restricted by other offers.
