Ignoring the RRP of £259.99, this seems to be around £159.99 at other places, seems like a good price, I think?

The Dyson V6 Top Dog handheld vacuum cleaner is powered by the Dyson digital motor V6. This 350W motor, 2 Tier Radial™ cyclones and a re-engineered nickel manganese cobalt battery combine to provide powerful suction.

Personally don't see the point of these without the telescopic tube. I've recently inherited one and I've not used my full size vacuum since.
Have a 3 bed house and can comfortably clean the whole place without running out of power. I think those that run out of charge don't vacuum often enough I do it every day so takes a few minutes. I have the V6 base model I think as it doesn't at anything else on the machine.

It's also handy without the telescopic tube for quick clean ups and doing rugs. Great for those with kids especially.

Totally agree. Give it to the kids to play with when they've been good and set them loose on the upstairs carpets

Yes I agree that they are useful without the telescopic tube but I wouldn't buy one that didn't include it as it's just not worth it without. Should be included as standard really great machine though the suction on it is impressive to say the least. Only downside is the bin is so tiny I need to empty frequently when cleaning dunno where it's grabbing the dust from.
donslibi to adhkarzf
31 Aug 17 #5
Maybe not worth it for you as you are replacing a normal vaccum cleaner but good for others. I agree with the small bin comment, although it's only really meant to be used for small areas at a time.

Annoyingly, I read that it's not compatible with my Fluffy attachments, or I'd get one as backup/mother-in-law visiting panic button.

I have the V6 Animal. It truly was the biggest waste of money I've ever spent. My wife's sister told me they were a waste of money but I just had to spend £360 on it to find that out. Never again would I buy something like this.

Anyone who tells you they get any more than 5 minutes of decent vacuuming out of one of these is a liar, plain and simple, they are lying to you. Wood flooring? It will do a quick runaround. A deep pile carpet in a large room? Forget about it. It will destroy the battery in minutes.

I've got a three bedroom house and can do everywhere but the stairs on one charge flicking between high setting for carpet and low for tiles. Best £330 we've ever spent. I don't tell lies either.

Couldn't agree more I can do all my house no issues at all.I don't care what other people say they must be lying as the battery lasts as long as it should.Great piece of kit and worth every penny deal up but get one with the tube and motorised head.

Maybe you're using it on boost/max mode. I hear it's on that setting when it comes out of the box.

Oh and just because you can't seem to use such a simple product doesn't mean others who are competent enough to use it are liers

I've inherited a used one and its excellent in my opinion just as good as my full size vacuum. Never owned a dyson before either. It has a few minor flaws but suction ain't one of them. I have laminate, carpet and tiles and the only one I can't vacuum properly is the tiles as I don't have the correct attachment.

Or you have a faulty unit! Plus you certainly paid too much for it.

I also have a V6 animal, and for me personally it has been the best purchase I have made (electronic wise). It makes cleaning nice and easy, rather than having to lug the heavy Henry out that does a terrible job on carpet.

You should be getting 20mins out of the unit, unless of course you have left it on 'max'

The battery on mine provides enough time to clean upstairs and downstairs of my 3 bedroom semi and is not flat by the end so no idea whats left. In fact the only time I have flattened the battery was using max and not knowing the first time I used it. Max is certainly not needed for daily cleaning

Your comments about carpets are not reflective on mine, this is where the unit excels. I have deep carpet and thick underlay. It picks up hair and fluff very well performing a much better job than my Henry ever could.

Well we have a dc59 which is essentially the same machine, and I don't run the battery out in minutes. So either I'm a liar or you have a lemon.

I have the standard handheld version of this and it's absolutely brilliant for quick food spills and whipping around the stove etc. Also perfect for a quick clean around the car. For a family this is a brilliant bit of kit! heat from me!

Dyson are also selling the non-dog version for £130, probably better for the car as the wide nozzel on the dog version looks like a pain to get into small spaces

I totally agree with this person, the quality of these products are not what they were, there are better machines on the market at the moment at half the price don't be taken in by thinking Dyson are the best. I used to love my early model Dyson, so when I needed a replacement it was the first name I looked for, how wrong I could be, I have bought 2 and both had to be returned faulty and poor quality products.

I stand by everything I said already.

I am staring at one of these pieces of junk hanging up on my wall as I type this. I know exactly how it works and how the boost works. And do people think I'm stupid enough to pay £360 and then not take it in to be checked? There is nothing wrong with the unit, its the product that's all wrong.

If it was sold as a five minute tidy up job and had the price tag to match I could understand it but it was more expensive than all but Dyson's top models when I bought it.

My words of advice to anyone considering buying one of these is quite simply don't do it. You will come to regret it as I did when you get 5 minutes out of a 4 hour charge.

Right, so you've really annoyed me enough to actually test what my battery life is as you are not representative, so you are misleading people.

So, I purchased my refurb (although i think I got a new one) Dyson V6 Animal from Dyson eBay July 2016 (for £160 for those interested). This means the battery is over 1 year old (at least, if it was a refurb it'll be even older).

I put the carpet adapter on at 5.43pm tonight. I then proceeded to hoover (vacuum) my 3 bed semi. This took until 5.54. For reference my house is wood downstairs, and then heavy carpet on both the stairs and upstairs, so 11mins carpet. After this I put the fluffy adapter on and kept the button in until it went flat and hoovered flat surfaces. Switch over took 10secs. The battery went flat at 6.03pm.

This means my year old battery (at least) lasted 20 mins.

So no, you didn't check the battery and yes you are a patronising person that thinks everyone is lying just because their devices don't perform like your dud.

For reference my device was last charged Monday night so it's actually had chance to discharge in the week as i don't leave it plugged in all the time as this kills the battery.

How do you explain this?

I put mine on to charge at 6:05pm, so i will report back how long it takes to charge a little bit later tonight.

They seem to have a bee in their bonnet and can't accept that others have had a positive experience. I've never had a Dyson before and have no brand loyalty. Think dysons are generally overpriced but I love my V6! I've only had it about 2 weeks and mine was a hand ne down and I still get 20 mins out of mine not timed it but I can do a full 3 bed house and not run out of charge. Not needed to use the boost mode yet either.

Even with my positive experience I can accept that some may not, but to call people liers just because you don't agree with them is just crazy! The reviews speak for themselves to be honest.
gary333 to adhkarzf
2 Sep 17 #24
I agree with you. It's the being called a liar part that frustrated me enough to post and check my own machines capability. I have always been suitably happy with my device. All companies produce goods which can become or are delivered faulty, or just not come up to spec and it's how they react after this event that matters. From what I have heard Dyson are at least willing to investigate under performing devices and replace or refund.

Speaking of warranty claims after my above test I will be checking out the experience as it's killed the device - d'oh. Flashing red light and won't charge. So yes, it can certainly do 20mins, once :).
deanjohnson666 to gary333
3 Sep 17 #25
Apparently if the device is too hot or too cold it will refuse to charge. Also try checking and gently cleaning the battery terminals with a little vinegar

Ive 'annoyed' you enough? Really? Ok, you win the internet award for annoyance for today. I don't know whether I feel more sad for you or for me.

This is a piece of junk. I paid £360 for it when they first came out and it was and still is overpriced unless they start selling it for £50.

I KNOW how crap these things are because I spent an age on the phone with Dyson demanding that they send me a replacement as it never performed even close to its advertised ability. I took it in, when it was 1 week old, to have it tested at a Dyson Service Centre and I was told there is nothing wrong with it at all.

My Sister in law had exactly the same experience and she warned me not to buy one telling me it was never, ever going to replace my corded Dyson and that it was only good as a back up but I did not listen.

Dyson have horribly mis-sold this thing to mugs like me and I will never again buy a Dyson product because of it.

My honest and true opinion to anyone at all reading this is do not buy this machine. Not at any price.

This is my last post on it. You and the other guy can continue bigging it up till your heart's content. I have better things to do with my life.
gary333 to Ev0lution
3 Sep 17 #27
If it was one week old why did you not take it back to the shop for a full refund as per your statutory rights? Ignoring that, why haven't you sold it on as there is a strong used market on eBay for them if you find it poor and get sone of your money back?

Dyson have just sent me out a new battery (well within 5 days) free of charge as the above test killed it. As you can see even a faulty battery is capable of the timings they quote so quite clearly your device is not working correctly.

No one is bigging the device up, they/we are saying your observations are not reflective of this device in general as there are hundreds of reviews praising it. As I said every company makes a said proportion of duds.

There are things wrong with it, the bin design is poor, the plastic where the 'stick' connect feels cheap and will break if being used by mr heavyhand, it's too bulky to properly clean in tight spaces like in the car around seats/floor area.

However, suction and battery life performance make up for the weaknesses as far as I am concerned.

We use an animal V6 at work to hoover up aluminium shaving from our industrial router and I’ve been using it 2 years now. We have had zero issues at all other than cutting off roller brushes with the sharp alloy filing but that would happen no matter the maker.

It’s used more times I guess than a domestic user as it’s used maybe 30 times a day and charged 30times a day quiet easy.

Because of the abuse it gets I’m actually going to buy a V6 total for our own house.

Poor people being sucked up into buying this worthless piece of junk. Thinking it will give you what you want. It will give you nothing like the tv adverts. They have just about managed to have a success with the V8 model but anything below this model is like chucking money down a drain.

I have a little handheld Dyson and it has changed my life! I love it! Perfect for whipping round, dusting with the brush attachment, hoovering the stairs. Yes, it has a small capacity, but the suction on normal is fantastic! Leaves freshly hoovered marks all over the carpet. I think it's the best £120 I ever spent, and mine was a refurb too. If anyone is in any doubt, just get one. You won't regret it.
