Hp with similar special but a 1tb ssd was the same price. So not good value in my opinion.

I have a model up from this and I personally am happy with the screen. It's a laptop, you sit directly in front of it - why do you need viewing angles? Granted IPS is better but I wouldn't be put off by the screen at this price. The 7000 series are a very well reviewed machine and are great gaming PC for those that don't need high end graphics and a laptop that shouts "gaming" at you all day. Having said that, the 1050Ti that I've got is able to handle high settings on all the games I've thrown at it recently.....

The TN screen is not good. Poor viewing angles, high response times and low colour reproduction. I'm not sure how anyone can put up with such subpar components.
You can run games at a lower than native resolution. 1080p will scale nicely on 4K and the 1050/1060 will run it just fine. The best of both worlds.
Anyone thinking of getting this machine needs to swith out the screen with a decent IPS panel.

Just been looking on YouTube at switching the screen out. Looks easy. 4 screws and 1 cable. Looks like you can pick up a decent IPS screen for about £60.

If this was the New IPS Version then I'd be all over this. Sadly It's the Poor TN Panel & I can't go back from having an IPS Display to that awful screen. The reason why these are dropping in price is that they're introducing this Laptop (Base Models) with the Option to Upgrade to the IPS Displays. Have done in the US & Canada since May of this year. So will wait it out. The Specs itself are very good & If you plan to hook it up to a 4K Monitor then that's an excellent way around the TN Panel.

Yep, totally agree (hence i've just ordered the 4k model myself). However, for anyone considering buying one anyway - this is as cheap as you'll get it.
A tip for those considering the higher spec laptops - speak to livechat first.
The 4k model is £1,349 on the Dell website now. They also offer £150 cashback over £999 orders.
I spoke to customer support and said my budget was £1,000 and could they do any better on the price, they offered me 10% off to match student discount price, I politely refused and said I can pay £1,150 maximum + cashback.
Few days later I got a phonecall saying they spoke to the finance team and agreed to it, meaning I'm paying £1,000 for a £1,349 laptop - pretty happy about that!

Max they'd offer me over Chat was £1220 + Cashback I politely refused & Gave them My Number & Email address if they wished to contact me etc but told them my limit was the same as yours. Fingers crossed they get in touch over the next few days. If I can get that at the same price you did then I'll be snapping It up for sure for £1000.

Decided to Live Chat them again today out of the Blue & a the Chat Agent & I Agreed! He called me & I managed to get the 4K Model from £1349 down to £1149 + The £150 Cashback! Can't wait. Have to wait up to 7 Days for It as It has to be made as It's not in stock at the moment. But for £1000 Total cost It's not bad at all!

Sure but thats not what I was getting at :smile: Whats point of having 4K screen if you have to run games on low setting and suffer low FPS?
I am not trying to put the deal down but trying to understand what is the reasoning for going 4K on these machines.

I really wanted the Inspiron particularly, for its large battery life and excellent cooling among other reasons.
In the U.K, buying the 4k model is the only way currently to avoid the TN panel - IPS is only available as an aftermarket upgrade, which I really didn't want to have to do. Additionally, the 4K will still be beneficial when streaming video etc. correct?
I don't think you'd find much better for £1,000 or less, but do correct me if I am wrong!

There are lot of benefits to 4K but this is being sold as "gaming" laptop hence why I was hangup on that! Anyway as log as you are happy and this suits your needs, all is well :smile:

When I spoke to a Dell they said they were not adding an IPS option outside the 4K screen to the 7000 series in Europe. Be good if they do as the screen on these is horrific...

You can get their alieanware ones for around £1300 and they are HD IPS and slightly better spec (1060, etc). I would think thats the better options? Or is there some reason to get Inspiron orver those if you are spending 1000+?

for gaming yeah, but video, photo desktop tasks should be fine and games should upscale *ok*.
