Personally I'd pay the extra for the FX-991ESPLUS. Unless you're certain you wont go to college! It's currently 20% off at WHSmith or even cheaper on Amazon (£12.99).

Also worth considering is the Sharp EL-531X calculator on sale for £5 at Asda. Plenty in stock. Tried to submit the deal earlier today but HUKD seems to be rejecting my submissions lately. I think either calculator is fine for school but neither would be good enough for college.

I'm pretty sure this is a standard seasonal price... every year this calculator is on 'special offer' before the academic year starts... then if there are any kids without one once they've started maths, and the teacher tells them they need to get one ASAP, they have to buy it at full price.

The new minimum for a-level is the updated FX991EX (note the older FX991ES is insufficient - as the calculator must be able to work out statistical stuff which used to be done using statistical tables which will no longer be supplied). Sometimes referred to as "classwiz". Graphics calculators are allowed (possibly recommended - certainly make curve sketching easier!) but not required. The FX991EX tends to be about £25, but feasibly there will be reductions after the "back to school" sales really start.

Just be careful if thinking of A-level. As no longer suitable for the new maths A-level starting September 2017. Still suitable for GCSE though, and a reasonable price.

I thought this model was OK a it was the FX...'Plus'. What's the calc. of choice for A level please from Sep this year?

A-Level requires graphical calculators now... Which is banned at my uni but I used the FX991ES throughout uni and it's miles better than this if you're using it for maths/engineering/science etc. Some features extra that I used were - Matricies, Equation solving, polar to cartesian conversion and operations (This was most useful and saved a huge amount of time in my electrical exams).

This calculator is a must have for anyone at secondary school / college. I've used it since 2011 and am still using it now. It's a great calculator that's easy to use once you learn the basics.
Literally everyone I know uses this calculator, it has every feature you would need (even random integer generator).
I have never had to change the battery or anything, the solar panels work great. The display is also good as it can fit in a lot of information even 'levelled' things such as fractions on fractions with powers etc...

Tried buying on Tesco website and there is none in stock unfortunately and the ones on Amazon are only available to prime members.
