Last time i used a wifi extender, my wifi sppeeds dropped from 36mbs to 1mbs. wonder if this kit will do the same?

This is not just an Wi-Fi extender but a powerline set too. So long as you have fairly good cabling it should work. I've been using gigabit poweline adapters for tv boxes and they have been excellent

If you wanted one but Argos were out of stock, it's worth checking again. It's round the time uncollected reservations expire. (I let mine lapse after deciding not to get it).
