Decent saving off a new Alfa Romeo 4C Coupe at Drive the Deal, on the new "67" reg. This particular one comes in Giallo Protipo (yellow) with black leather sports seats, with a racing double tip sports exhaust, other options available including:

White with red leather sports seats

Metallic Rosso Competizione with black leather sports seats

Unusual for this type of sports car to come with a saving, 2014 used models are advertised starting from £38,000 upwards on Autotrader (most of which are red in colour), so thought this was a good deal for a brand new one. (As always if it is the car you are after). Imo think they look awesome.

Also states that "Alfa Romeo are offering 4.9% APR Representative PCP or Hire Purchase finance over 24-48 months with no minimum deposit, if so required" however not compulsory.

It's very very nice, comparison to the latest mx5 ?

There is no comparison?
Each of these would not register as a alternative to the other, unless you know nothing about cars?

They designed and priced this car way to high. Shouldn't really have been made from carbon fibre. Visually looks like a £30 k sports car. People think it's MX 5 money!

Local body shop should have no problem with that, shame looks great.

Are you for real?

I'm inclined to agree. I was shocked to see this actually retailed at £61k. No doubt it's a gorgeous car that performs well, but even with £16.7k off there are PLENTY of cars I'd rather buy for the same price.

Alfa used to have a terrible reputation for depreciation , I don't know what they are like now . I have never seen this model on the road, presumably because no one is daft enough to lay out £43 grand on one ?

Quite a good deal although the list price is inflated, only £51-£53K list depending on the colour/seat options. Really nice looking in real life and nothing at all like the comparsions people are making to a MX5. The Fiat 124 Spider/Abarth 124 Spider are MX5's. History went that the latest MX5 incaration was designed alongside the FCA group (actually built in same factory) but Alfa came out to say they would never build a car outside of Italy and it became badged Fiat/Abarth.
Living with this car is a total different story. The pictures do not do justice to how actually wide this car is, along with the one piece carbon fibre monocoque chassis (just like an F1 car) which make it a total nightmare to get in and out off, speed humps and multistory car parks are both just no no's Could rant forever about how you couldn't live with this being an everyday day. Here's a couple of youtube videos instead!

Living with a 4C

How it's made an Alfa Romeo 4C
TheBiker
26 Aug 17 #12
IMHO Very expensive for a 1.75 litre turbocharged car despite its good looks.
vulcanproject to TheBiker
26 Aug 17 #14
It has a carbon tub and swathes of aluminium. It's actually quite cheap for what it is. It has had mixed opinions from launch though.
cecilmcroberts to TheBiker
26 Aug 17 #16
It's all about the power to weight. Car only weighs 900kg, good for 0-60 in 4.5. F1 cars only have 1.6 engines. The Mercedes-Amg Project One Hypercar car is only going to have a 1.6 engine, which is likely going to be upwards of £1M
TheBiker to cecilmcroberts
26 Aug 17 #18
Regarding the power to weight, yes its all good for 0-60 but what about top speed? Yet to see a road going Ferrari with a 1.75L engine. Despite all their tinkering with the engine it doesn't rev very high either.

In essence very exotic but IMHO too much carbon fibre etc but not enough oomph to justify the price tag.
Agharta to TheBiker
26 Aug 17 #22
This for me is more of a flash Harry track car that is bearable on the road if you are a petrol head and the rest of us would find it a pain.
Nothing wrong with the performance and the top speed is fine unless you are going to tracks with long straights that allow you to get well over 150; this hits 160.
An interesting review here: caranddriver.com/com…e-2
I'd rather drive a Ford Fiesta than this though, my GTI days were decades ago.
TheBiker to Agharta
26 Aug 17 #24
I'll stick with my Nissan 370Z which was a lot cheaper.
vulcanproject to TheBiker
26 Aug 17 #27
Which is slower than a 4C to 60mph or even a quarter mile, by a fair distance
TheBiker to vulcanproject
26 Aug 17 #28
Cost a lot less though......... and its a V6,,, with 300+HP
vulcanproject to TheBiker
26 Aug 17 #29
It can have a V12 for all that it matters, it's slower. You'll get annihilated by this Alfa with it's little 1.75L engine away from the lights.

The 370Z also better have cost a lot less, it's got average residual values and a low rent interior since it's a very dated and old car these days. I'm not a fan of the 4C but you're not exactly criticising it from a position of strength
TheBiker to vulcanproject
26 Aug 17 #30

Don't understand the logic you probably own a pushbike. My old Vauxhall Corsa VXR with remap had more BHP but my 370z has more oomph.
vulcanproject to TheBiker
26 Aug 17 #32
I own a push bike yes. Several. Your criticisms are currently 'my 370Z has more power and a V6/is cheap.'

Whereas my point is the Alfa is still faster anyway and seeing as though depreciation is the highest cost of owning a car this isn't a bad deal at all. It'll lose next to nothing over 3 years if you pay £43k for it, £5-6k maybe.

Whereas you can kiss goodbye to £10k on a new 370Z over the same period. Logical enough?

But it's not supercar money. It does 155MPH how fast do you want to go? In reality anything over 100mph in the UK going to get you in trouble.
It's party piece is stopping 70-0 in 81ft it takes a 458 146ft.
On a twisty B road it will definitely put a smile on your face.

Have a gorgeous 9 year old Brera S.

It's not without it's niggles, but I love it, and can't see anything in a reasonable price range I want to replace it with.

The front lights on the 4C don't work for me, although they improved it on the Spider version. Not that I'm in the market. Need a back seat even if a small one.

Compare it to something similar, say a Lotus Elise then it looks like quite good value for money given the full carbon tub.
I've always had a soft spot for these, would much rather drive this than a M2 (yes, I know that's a great car too) or similar value speed magnets.
Trying to think what other cars would fall in this class. Boxster/Cayenne? I think they're more.

26 Aug 17 #31
It's the usual Alfa Romeo, the outside looks amazing, and the inside is a designers nightmare where they've just thought yeah that'll do that looks alright, the design inside has so many flaws, as indicated in the videos posted earlier in this thread, the digital dash is like a Chinese bodged version of the much superior ones in Audi cars. If I bought this car then I'd invest in a lot of car polish as it will most likely be broken most of the time and just sitting on my drive, so might as well just keep it looking nice.
TheBiker
26 Aug 17 #33
Keep riding the bike and shut up. Its not as if you will be owning the Alfa in your lifetime.

If I kiss goodbye to £10k I AM STILL QUIDS IN.

I am trying to be very careful at this point as you strike me as someone who can only afford pushbikes and don't understand the refinements of a V6.

Neither. 0-60 of the GT4 is quicker, mine had been modified when I bought it, 0-60 was under 5 seconds.
Locknloadharry to simate

0-60 in under 5 seconds? really?
I cannot remember them having any chance whatsoever of doing that?
what's the top speed on your Celica?

The official 0-60 of the GT4 is 5.2 seconds, based on an unmodified engine.

Seen a nice example of the Celica the other week.

31842875-nFUUA.jpg31842875-en2c6.jpg
Example below of how petty this little 1.75l engine that they use in 4C is. Considering weight of car is 1400kg and in FWD, unlike the RWD and 900kg weight of the 4C.

31842875-TdNJX.jpg

Although I'll still stick with my Giulia Quadrifolgio.

Why are people comparing the 370Z and this 4c? They are totally different animals. The small engine in the 4C helps to keep the overall mass down which helps with the cornering performance. Given a choice between the two a decent driver is unlikely to choose the 1500KG Nissan over the 4C for a track day. But if you need a car to live with as your daily driver then the 370Z would be the more preferred.

Hot deal - amazing all the typical Alfa comments from non petrol heads who have never owned an Alfa. This is a petrolheads car, only real comparison is a Lotus. Everything is designed to save weight hence the low rent interior that is as sparse as possible.
The main problem with the 4c are the UK roads, anyone who has tried a 4c love them. They are expensive for what you don't get, but a carbon car at this price point is unique.

Google the Top Gear test review with clarkson and co when they were still at Top Gear and then some years later again when they were on the Grand Tour

But agree let's keep on topic because some of the comparisons are pointless.

Has anyone made an inquiry on these yet? I'm awaiting a factory order but the story I've been told is that the factory weren't opening order books until all stock vehicles had been sold. However, I'd been told that stock vehicles were almost all gone last week so it'll be surprizing if there are many left.
