It is true you cannot jumpstart a ford mondeo silver calcium battery as it has a smart charge system? As it could spike and fry the electrical components. Can you recharge one though?

Cannot see from the op photo how many amps or cc this is. The cheap leads are usually too thin. You want jump leads that the box says are suitable for 2500 cc or 3500 cc .
Never heard of not being able to jump a car . The things is to turn the key for 20 secs or less , then give it a couple of minutes before you try again if it fails to start. If you short the leads out then I could understand it .
As to shortening the battery life 7 years to 1 years , I cannot believe that either . All you are doing is providing enough power to turn the electronic ignition/ starter motor. After that the cars alternator will try to charge the dead battery . You are not charging the dead battery with the donor one.

Also, you need to be wary on battery damage AGM batteries WILL NOT thank you for jump starting it, IF it's discharged, needs to be charged with the correct pulse type charger too... Jump starting an AGM battery ONCE reduces its life expectancy from 7 years to 1 year, AND invalidates manufacturers warranty, and it is possible to spot the damage caused!!!...you have been warned, I have JUST been on a manufacturers course, where we were all told about it, and how to reject an attempted warranty claim! ..also damage to the cars electronics is VERY possible, a steering column ECU will cost you £1000+....and don't expect warranty to cover it, they won't...

It's letting the battery go flat in the first place that damages the battery, Not jump starting, Yes trickle charging would be more beneficial as a way to charge the battery but the damage is already done.

You should be careful these days jump starting one car off another. Many cars now state in their manual you should not use your car to jump start another. My dad got caught on this when he used his Mondeo to jump start my sisters car, it killed his alternator. When the garage replaced it they told him to check the cars manual and they were right, it specifically states not to jump start other cars.

would love a techo to confirm this cos all you are doing is using your car to charge the other cars battery to start the other car just make sure when the car you are boosting has not got a short battery and make sure you at least quarter rev your car when attempting to start the other car

^This^ Jump starting via battery won't cause any problems providing you don't short the terminals which can fry the electrics and ecu.
Jump starting via pushing or rolling isn't recommended these days for various different logical reasons.
Also be careful with jump leads, Some cheap cables can't handle the amps, They can literally melt.

never heard of jump starting a car fry the alternator unless the car you are trying to start has got a short battery or the other car you got thats trying to start the car has a battery or alternator problem thats waiting to happen,then again a garage would tell you anything to get a deal.it might just have been a fuse on the mondeo charging circuit,.unless you got them to give you the duff alternator back as well so you could get it checked,but they would have probably said its an exchange alternator so we cannot give you yours back,its not called rip off britain for nothing

Apparently new cars use alternators that regulate the voltage in a different way (hopefully someone can confirm). The 2 cars alternators dont like be connected to each other.
Yes very simplistic answerbut how it was explained to me. Also my last 2 cars have specifically stated not to do this in the manual and so does my dads Mondeo.

They are not the same i think. Mine are not rac but auto tech.. i couldnt find them online though
