One of the bigger memory versions of the SE at a reasonable price with the usual O2 caveats. Check previous deals how to go through to get the lower price (i.e. Pay the handset off and discard the contract during the cooling off period):

No, but as per the description, it's the price you get for the handset only when you cancel the airtime plan within the 14 day free cancellation period. You just keep the handset and pay it off.

These O2 Deals confuse me because when I click through I cant find out the tariff's suggested. I posted this enquiry last time a n O2 deal was posted and no one could give me any details on how to obtain a refresh deal and cancel without incurring a penalty. If anyone could point me in the direction of a guide to do this I would be indebted. Many thanks

Just take out the contract as if you were going to keep it for 24 months. Within 14 days, call / live chat o2 & say that you'd like to cancel the airtime and pay off the device plan. Simples. By the way, it does leave a mark on your credit file as o2's refresh contracts are similar to a loan. Just a heads up.

Just bought 64gb for £192. How do I cancel it? The airtime part? Need it unlocking and wanna stay near the £192 cost ha. Looks like £8 a month. Do I ring up and cancel the airtime part and just leave the device part coming out for 24 months

Check if it's unlocked sometimes they are . Put in a request anyway . Ring them and say you want to pay off device in full and cancel airtime . Obviously don't make calls or SMS just ring 202 a few times etc with the aim

Insert sim, activate your iPhone. Don't use any minutes/text/data. Ring 202, request for unlock code first. Once request goes through, tell them that i have already paid for device in full (if you have selected option of pay for device in full while ordering), can i cancel airtime? They will proceed with your request. If advisor tells you about 30-day notice period, you need to quote that i am cancelling my airtime and sim, which is allowed within 14-days period. Cancellation of airtime takes 24 hours while unlocking will take upto 72 hours. Remember to provide them correct email address so they can send you unlocking confirmation email.

I'd say £229 from giffgaff for a refurb that is brand new for all intents and purposes (I've got one and not a mark on it), has a year's warranty with Apple and doesn't need the contract process which has caused issues for others in the past.

Guys I just took this deal out.

Got the phone and paid for the device and got it unlocked.

however the customer service advisors won't cancel my airtime and are adamant that I must give a 30 days notice. Even though it says I can do this in their T&Cs.

Any any thoughts on how to escalate this or other solution please

Once the phone is paid off, who is the warranty with?

I ask as i purchased an iPhone 6 from O2, paid off the balance immediately. Some months later it developed a camera fault. Being not brand new, there was no remaining Apple warranty on it and O2 now say that once the handset is paid off they are not responsible for the handset. O2 keep saying go to Apple, however Apple say the manufacturers warranty had already expired as it was not brand new.

I'm keen to purchase another refresh handset but reluctant because of this issue.
Anyone else had this problem?
Rastafari to 24bar
9 Aug 17 #42
12 months handset warranty, as per O2 website:
o2.co.uk/hel…new

Unlocking the handset does not void the handset warranty. Disconnected the SIM card does not void the handset warranty. Suggesting either to be so is ridiculous.
24bar to Rastafari
9 Aug 17 #35
Thanks for the reply.

The last correspondence with O2 (last week) stated:
"The warranty is void with with the Service provider once the contact has been cancelled."
They have literally closed the door to any further assistance and keep saying I should go to Apple, however Apple can't do anything as it's a refurbished handset.

Perhaps I'll write to O2 and refer them to that link.

I have 3 weeks of warranty left and this has been on going for 4 months now.
Rastafari to 24bar
9 Aug 17 #37
O2 exempt from the Consumer Rights Act then, are they? Nonesense. Write to the CEO.
Anon to 24bar
9 Aug 17 #49
That is not true - it seems you hit on one of their staff who does not understand what they are talking about.

I had an issue with my camera on my 5S in the final week of the O2 Warranty. I had to phone up rather than online chat as apparently it is a different team and they could not access the details with the contract being cancelled. I had to give the mobile number that it was bought on (easily retrieved from the MyO2 disconnected account) and send a proof of purchase. I requested it from them and they emailed it across to send with the Warranty/Repair paperwork, which was also sent across by email.

If they are not letting you claim on the Warranty, write to the CEO/complaints team.

Are these all out of stock now?

Also quick question, can you pay device off in full when going through check out?

When it turns up try your SIM in it, if that works showing it's not locked to O2

All I need to do is contact O2 to cancel airtime?

Or do I have to of have it activated on o2 first

Hope that makes sense
Anon to vanwilder
9 Aug 17 #50
If you insert your SIM it will be unlocked and then likely lock to that SIM/network. The reason for inserting the O2 SIM, phoning 202 (or a freephone number - anything that will not run up a bill!) on the phone to make sure it has connected on their network, then requesting an unlock is this phone is then factory unlocked forever :sunglasses: for free.

9 Aug 17 #48
Cheapest tarrif I see is £19... Which tarrif are you selecting ?
texantacitus
9 Aug 17 #52
I did this. Stock levels move about so just keep checking the site. When you order pick the lowest tariff if you are planning to leave airtime within cooling off. If you do NOT pay up front for phone you will have to pay it out when you cancel- but AFTER you have got it unlocked. They insist on 30 day notice period but it is only for 30 days following canx- hence use low tariff. They insist on this despite 14 day cool off by saying that by buying out phone you have changed contract. Way to dodge this bullet may be to pay upfront for phone at time of order as per other posts and canx in 14 day cooling off. As to credit rating problems I have not seen any adverse effects...so far!!
I got a 'good as new' one and it was, except for rubbish cheap charging lead but when I rang to complain they soon sent a decent replacement. A pity their tarrifs are so costly. PS Some suggestions that some phones may already be unlocked when supplied so if you have a spare SIm may be worth trying - might save the need to request unlock.
Good luck y'all
Anon
9 Aug 17 #53
To get round the 30 days notice (if they say it is payable), request a PAC and transfer out to close the account (or transfer the number to O2 PAYG). It will then process and not charge the 30 day notice (as the system processes it correctly, recognising the 14 day cancellation period).

Go on website. Choose a new tariff. It will say have to pay device off first, do than then cancel new plan with in 14 days then no further charges and all done. In other news the device we received crashed today and iTunes error 26 which is hardware fault. New one coming tomorrow but annoyingly Since updating to new iPhone all content not backed up since Friday annoyingly. Pisses as phone looked brand new but obv underlining hardware issue.
MagicGS to MagicGS
17 Aug 17 #60
They delivered a gold iPhone instead of rose gold. If ya receive a phone with iTunes restore its got a hardware fault, don't use. Anyway as I've paid the tariff off and device off and only a payg customer now i was on the phone for 3 hours yesterday (a lot of waiting) being passed from contracts to payg to business and no one could help get the phone changed to rose gold. Been a lot of issues as the phones faulty. Don't think I'd do it again ha. Anyway I've sent a complaint and a manager post to be calling me today to sort something out. Il believe it when it's sorted!
Anon to MagicGS
17 Aug 17 #61
Why did you pay it off if they have sent the wrong phone? By paying off you effectively confirmed receipt, and by paying off took ownership. That said, if it is faulty they should still be arranging the repair.and that should be a straightforward Warranty repair/replacement (it is no surprise though that as ever with O2 there isn't a simple process!). I am not sure they will change the colour while repairing though.

Thinking about it, if you had paid for the device up front you still have 14 days change your mind so should still have rights - both under distance selling and consumer protection etc.
MagicGS to Anon
17 Aug 17 #63
I paid off when I received the rose gold which then went faulty. They then said yes we will replace but sent a gold version out which was not what was ordered. I've written in as was on the phone yesterday for ages and nothing sorted.

My SE 64gb came yesterday.
Got the almost perfect option as the perfectly fine had no stock and it wasn't much more to go up to the next level.
Phone is immaculate. Ibackupbot says abt 6 lifetime battery cycles. My old 5S had 650!
No Apple warranty remaining though. The estimated purchase date was June 2016.
Phone was unlocked earlier on today, will call tomorrow to pay the phone off and cancel the air time.
I tried calling web chat to do this but they said I need to pay the phone off via a telephone call.

17 Aug 17 #62
received my perfectly fine 16gb se yesterday and so impressed, not a scratch on it, looks brand new and was unlocked to boot. Will try this backupbot and see what info it throws up but very impressed.

Payed the £111 rather than paying off the rest over the phone so just need to cancel now, which ill do tonight.
Anyone recommend phone over chat or should it not matter either way?
OxWearingSocks to yarkiebrown
17 Aug 17 #64
I tried to do it on chat but they told me to call cancellations. Then tried with the leaving team who said I have to send the phone back even though I paid it off and it needs to be 30 days notice. I told them it's two separate contracts and I know people who have done this.

He very rudely says that it's been around for 5 years and it doesn't matter what other people do, because he's telling me what actually happens.

I asked to be put to customer services and then when they couldn't get me a better deal they told me that was fine and they'll cancel it tomorrow. I had to remind them I don't need to serve 30 days notice though. Be insistent.

Played a bit of ping pong trying to cancel but it wasn't too much bother.
Got put through to cancellations first. The guy quoted the 30 days notice thing.
I said to him could you please say in the T&C's where it says this.
He didn't answer but passed me through to someone else to cancel who then transferred me over to someone else!

I have had the 5s for nearly 4 years. It was definitely time for an upgrade.
I had my eye on the 7S or 8.. but really can't justify spending that much money when the SE does everything I want.
Would have also gone for Apple Care with the 7S/8.

It's worth the hassle for such a decent price
