Hi actually one of these got taken off me on a flight from Turkey to Birmingham . they were checking everyone's hand luggage. They told me that it was new regulations and they disposed of it. I was gutted but they were taking them from other people too.

Why would you carry it with you I also keep it in my storage and use iPhone charger

21 Aug 17#39
I had in my hand luggage. I have always done it on the past but they were checking everyone's hand luggage and confiscating power packs. They didn't reimburse me or offer to ship it. I didn't have a bag shipping over. Only had hand luggage

I would definitely not have allowed the theft of my belongings and would have complained at the highest level.

Not always a wise move with airport security! Hope you like the sound of rubber gloves being snapped on for the resulting intimate search :joy:

Nonsense. I don't accept poor service anywhere, wheth at an airport or anywhere.
happpychappy to Rastafari
22 Aug 17#44
Think you need to grow up a bit, this is nothing to do with poor service. Restrictions and regulations are put in place for good reason based on safety and security. If you decide to take the risk of flaunting them and get caught then you accept the consequences of losing your restricted items. Put up a fight over it and I'd say its cast iron certainty you'll end up missing your flight and spending time in a cell, go ahead and test it if you like, let us know how you get on!

Codswallop. Airport security staff are private firms, not government agencies. They make up their own "rules" as they go along, as they like. There's no consistency across airports even in the same country. If the staff are being unreasonable, challenge them by complaining to their manager. I always do. By being scared of them and bending over to take whatever they want to do to you, you're contributing to allowing these firms to do exactly as they please.

I did actually call for the manager and spoke to him. They said blame your government for putting restrictions on what we can fly into the UK with! It's bizarre they let you fly out but not in. I agree with the other posters a complaint would have got nowhere. I tried and they refused and I'm sure they would have stopped me boarding the flight if I didn't agree! They done three check point stops on everyone's hand luggage to ensure they missed nothing and believe me they didn't

Blame our government - who won't give a toss. The flight operator and tour operators do their best to warn you that our government forbid any electronics larger than a smartphone or thicker than 1.5cm from being taken into the cabin when flying to the UK from several countries, including Turkey. When I flew back from Turkey in May I placed my battery pack in a jacket pocket, folded the jacket over and placed it in my carry on bag... My phone was taken out of my bag and I had to show it worked - ditto for wife and also her camera - but they didn't find my battery pack. Not that I recommend it. Also, I have concerns about placing any battery powered electronics in the hold luggage - exactly where our government wants you tablet and laptop computers... Muppets!

They were extremely vigilant on my occasion and literally had three hand luggage checks, each a few metres away from the next. And they stopped you on everyone and checked everything
Rastafari to Mr.Sinnister

So I assume they either offered to check in your bag for free, or to reimburse you for consifcation of your property?

I got this Aukey one with quick charge 3, it's currently £19 but I got it in a lightning sale for £14 so might go down again. Very happy with it, especially the fast charging with my phone and its just slim enough to fit in my switch case
A good battery bank. It's a shame you can't take these on aeroplanes. Perfectly fine to take on a plane

My bad, the last time I looked I was reading that 20,000 mAh was the limit allowed. Now it looks like you're allowed 100 Wh. This powerbank provides 75 Wh so it is fine.
Mistakes were made :worried:

Is the 20,100mAh based on the 3.7V of the internal battery or the 5V output? Never known which it is.
K1LLER_HORNET to nitro228
21 Aug 17#37
The Anker website states it provides 75 Wh so it must be based on 3.7v.
Cant put one in the hold, taking it on with your hand luggage is fine.

You absolutely can take these battery packs on a plane, but must be as hand luggage. This is due to fire risk, as they get incredibly hot if they go up.

21 Aug 17#33
The strange thing is I flew from Birmingham and it was fine. It was on the way back they checked my hand luggage and took it. They had a template they were checking the size of the power banks with and it would have to have been a lot smaller to pass
Mr.Sinnister

So I would be careful telling people that they can take these on flights. My flight was just a few weeks ago

It's because of rules transporting them. Basically it's a mess and only a certain amount can be transported together in theory. I presume some post is sent to NI by plane which makes it even harder

21 Aug 17#28
Yeah something definitely changed and it might have to do with royal mail I'm not sure bit Amazon have their own logistics here so I don't get it, we can send batteries from here.
I'd rather not buy one from ebay

It was RM - they kept holding the parcels as suspicious & taking weeks to deliver them - happened with this very item for me & also with cleaning products - can understand them being cautious, but it is annoying.
EDIT Oh and amazon did not help - some labelling on the parcel would have helped, e.g. contains Lithium battery. I think some retailers mark them as do not fly - surface mail only. There must be a market for an NI mail forwarding service - take recently I wanted to order a £40 hand luggage case - until £25 delivery was added, instead of free for mainland!
