you can have them removed of the account all you do is contact custom service on the tablet and say they get in the way and they will remove them.

I think you need to have it for a certain length of time (unknown) before they will knock them off for you. I've tried twice just asking CS and they won't do it and refer you to the page where you can pay them a tenner to remove the ads, negating the saving made by buying the ads version. To be honest, the ads don't get in the way and simply swipe away, just as you would do a typical lockscreen.

I must have been lucky because i bought the tablet one day and the next day i contacted the custom service from my table and asked them to remove and about 5-8hrs afterwords they contacted me and said they had removed the ads and they have not come back since. I have been with them as a customer but i don't have prim and i don't use my account very much and the tablet was the first amazon gadget i have bought from them.

I phoned CS the day after getting mine and told them it was for a child and that the adverts weren't appropriate and they removed them. They were really helpful.

Yep, same here, and it was true. Instant removal by CS upon restart.
That was what I came on here to post - beat me to it!

Got it for the same price on the prime day deal. Google play store can be installed easily. I've been mainly using this for reading books and watching Netflix, prime video. It's cheap and good enough for some light weight media consumption.

I got one on Prime day and really like it.
It took about ten minutes to get around the Amazon only interface (loads of step-by-step guides online) and then from there managed to fill it with apps I wanted from Google Play store.
It's now my kindle/emulator machine for my upcoming around the world trip.

No need to worry about lock screen adverts. I find that when the screen is locked its because I'm not using it so don't give a @@@@ what is on it!

Can anyone recommend an inexpensive case that offers good protection ? The official ones seem dear. I'm looking for a tough case, so not bothered if it's an 'always on' or removable sleeve type. Thanks.

I find that the official case fits perfectly compared to third party ones which tends to be a bit loose
