Mine came up at £99. You can also order the Dot and they still apply the £20 discount.
Echo & Dot £123.99 (Thanks 'Bingohomer'). £10 Argos voucher when you collect. Another £10 'Voichercode' if they come through.

I have been pondering getting one of these but really they are so limited unless you have homeplugs and devices that are supported by them. I am not even sure it can play music from my DLNA server. Going to wait for the Gen 2 that is rumoured to come by the end of the year... Hence this stock clearance.

is it just me or are we headed to a world where entire house is voice activated or perhaps pre empted for us by predictive analytics. reminds me of irobot. that naff film with the professor held hostage by his own AI. Orwell and HG Wells warned us about this but Big brother here we come. before you ask I already suspect my phone and PS4. I remember a good few years back there was once a thing called the alexa toolbar. classed as spyware and hated by all. used to track and collect data and almost impossible to get rid of. is this a the great great great granddaughter of that? in a way it's ok as I have nothing to hide but for people that use this as a phrase to hit doubters I would say what is the reaction by most people of they see some one was watching them all the time? usually what I lookin at and a few choice expletives.

I thought very carefully about this: 1) The speakers are quite tinny sounding when playing loud music - tech review 2) if I need lights on I will get up and turn them on - I don't wish to be a lazy coach potato. 3) I have news and weather on my iPhone. 4) if I need to order anything from Amazon I quickly do it via the app. So even at £89 this is an average overpriced gadget. No thanks!

Paired mine with a Sony Amp - and you just need to say 'Alexa, connect speakers' - and the amp turns on with the output going through to it. A quick command to 'play XXX' then plays said track / artist through your AV system. As said, haven't found a way to get it to play stuff off my NAS (QNAP)...

Well done again CollectorCol - there's some 'told you so's' due from from you here now eh!!! Many thanks.
So even better than I first expected, £123.99, plus hopefully £20 in vouchers.
I know it might be a long shot, however could you then use the £20 in vouchers to place another order and get this for £103.99? Then return the first order?

22 Aug 17#72
It really depends on your setup at home, especially around speakers. The dot is good to have in rooms where you either don't really want/need brilliant sound for music playback or you have other speakers it can integrate with. The Echo has a better speaker and the sound quality is meant to be ok I think, so that is good for a room where you don't already have a speaker.
Personally I am a Sonos convert, I have a Playbase in the front room and a Play 1 in the kitchen and bedroom, Sonos are working on Alexa integration at the moment, so I currently have a dot in the front room awaiting an invitation to the beta when it comes, whilst getting used to what Alexa can do.
However with this offer, especially if the promo works with it, will give me an extra dot for the bedroom and an echo speaker, which I will probably put in one of the kids bedrooms for them to listen to music on.
collectorcol
22 Aug 17#71
I'll be trying that myself.
What are the advantages of a Dot if you have the Echo?
Bingohomer
22 Aug 17#70
Have both, Sonos are currently working on Alexa integration at the moment (due this year), so you would get best of both, echo in one room and your play 1 in another

I wonder if this will still work with the other promotion they have on at the minute of - Buy an Amazon Echo and get £20 off a dot, if so this will be amazingly hot. The £20 off dot offer states it is valid until 22nd January 2018.
I have added a black echo and black dot on the current offer to my basket and will see what happens tomorrow with the pricing. So potentially Amazon Echo and Dot for £128.99 plus £10 voucher.
Tempted at getting a new gadget for the house then also having the lights and TV connected etc
wonder if Argos selling anything cheap to get the £10 voucher for spending £100 seeing as the echo is £99.99 or wonder of buying a carrier bag will class then get the extra voucher save just getting a £5 one

More than happy with my Dot - was dubious about voice controlled speakers but now couldn't do without it. Sits in my kitchen and it can still hear me from the other end of the living room. Kids love it too - they can get some of their favourite songs playing by saying "ALEXA! Play LET IT GO!" (I had to upload that one to my Amazon cloud manually, mind).
I'll leave the full Echo... but may be interested in replacing it with the Echo Show if the price is right, and if I can get Plex to play video through it...

Lots of speculation that amazon are bringing out a new version with an even better speaker.
I believe that's a completely stand-alone Echo (called the Show) that is sold alongside the original Echo on Amazon US. I believe there is a new version of the (no screen) Echo in the pipeline with, apparently, a better integrated speaker.

Yeah, I've just been reading. This looks to be a global promotion for the next two weeks to clear out this stock.

They're brilliant and very handy for the home automation that we use. Wouldn't be without them now. Getting them on-board with Plex and Spotify is also very convenient - more so if you invest in the Harmony hub and get Alexa in control of turning on/off your home theatre system and Sky etc.
