Can our resident computer experts give a verdict whether this is a good deal or just a phony flash sale?!
Although I'd normally say go for the fastest CPU you can afford I don't think the difference is worth £100 in this case (the memory and SSD help in this case); if you have the cash spend on extended warranty (this is a personal thing really); and don't forget code LEN4600

I've got this laptop and I decided against the i7 because I believe it is just an overclocked i5 (ie. the same CPU).

Great CPU. If your budget goes to £600 -> get it.

4% off using LEN4600. Must be a £600 spend so the i7 model? Doesn't work adding the extended warranty unfortunately or additional items

yoga 710 11 £449.99 £150 0ff rrp. plus 10.5 per cent cash back .
The Yoga 700 11 (previous model, only difference minor CPU upgrade) was on sale on Amazon for £340 1.5 years ago. Not sure if £450 is such a great deal for the 710 11.

Tempted had set myself a budget of £550 max for a laptop but this seems a good deal.
Wanted for general use, media playing and photoshop/InDesign work, with some light gaming (stuff 1/2 years old etc).
Should I pull the trigger?

Good for all those things, except the gaming part. Aim for games from 4-5 years ago.

I have a dell laptop, which is a bit heavy. An i7 4500 which is't particularly fast, its a 15" laptop, I would need to do general data management.
I'm not sure for performance what the best would be to go for.
Want it as light and manouvarable as possible, but not sure what would suit me better 11 or 13, and if i need a yoga?

In the description for the laptop, it says Intel Iris graphics is optional. This enhances graphical capabilities but doesn't say if it's included in the machines on offer...... anybody have any idea whether it is or not as I don't want to get the lower spec if possible?
Also, anybody know what delivery times are like and is the warranty return to base location in the UK?

Suspect they are trying to sell these off cheap as there is an Ideapad 710s PLUS now with a newer processor and fingerprint scanner. I only want a lightweight machine for office work so went for the i5. Fingers crossed it won't be a dud

I bought this laptop about a year ago, I paid about £550 for the i5 model when you take cashback and a voucher at the time into account.
I've not been keeping up with the latest laptops etc since then but here are my thoughts on this one for anyone thinking about buying:
Good: 1) It is very light and very thin, so super compact and portable. 2) It is plenty fast for everything I use it for - I don't game on it apart from some retro stuff which it obviously handled with ease 3) The screen is really nice and it's the perfect size 4) I find the touchpad very good too 5) It's extremely fast to wake up - literally open the lid and it's ready to go (though I expect this can be said of most laptops now) 6) The speakers are pretty good 7) The keyboard is very nice in terms of travel and size however... see below
Bad: 1) The battery life is only just OK - you'd probably get 3-4 hours of normal use with the screen turned up to about 70% 2) The fan can be very noisy at times out of the box - I have largely gotten around this by installing a third party application which controls the fan instead of the preinstalled software - it's very rarely loud now in my normal use 3) It can get a bit hot underneath (again, this can probably be said of most laptops and is probably partly due to me reducing the fan profile), and I use it mostly on my lap - though it does have vents on the top as well which help 4) The keyboard is a weird layout towards the right hand side. The arrow keys are full size at the expense of the return key, and I find that only the top half of my return key works. Also, one of the keys (the actual plastic bit you press, not the mechanism) broke on mine and Lenovo wanted to charge me over £100 for a new keyboard. In the end I had to buy a new key from a third party for like £7 or something (despite the fact I actually bought Lenovo's enhanced 3 year warranty) so.... 5) Lenovo customer service and aftercare is (in my experience) appalling, and the warranty doesn't seem to be worth the paper it's written on - YMMV
Would I buy it again, definitely yes - but definitely not directly from Lenovo

Had the same problem and you have received the standard initial response,I persisted with another contact with Lenovo and received a new replacement.Check out Lenovo forum for such issues.

25 Aug 17#48
Yea I did a bit of searching around beforehand and saw people being persistent and sometimes getting the outcome they wanted.
The thing for me was that this was a part worth literally a couple of pence, and they were saying it was my fault it was broken (a key, after like 6 months!!!) - the laptop was in pristine condition... Had it been a more significant issue or something that would have cost more to fix elsewhere, I wouldn't have relented, but it was a key...
I was without the laptop for like a month while we argued about this and eventually I just thought f**k this and I got them to send it back to me, and I bought the key myself as it was worth the £7 just to get it back.
I swore never to buy a laptop again that didn't have an ironclad warranty with it - so next time I'll be more careful who I buy from. I will never buy anything from Lenovo again though, that's for sure.
Edit. I should add - don't get me wrong - I really like my laptop and this is probably still a good price; however, buy with your eyes open. If anything goes wrong with it, at best you are going to have to fight tooth and nail with Lenovo to fix it with couriers and being without a laptop etc. involved.

Thanks djbenny1. I got this in the current deal, but having the same fan issues - it starts up with the most basic usage. Advice given by Lenovo tech support hasn't helped and now they suggest sending it back to check - which is not an option for me as I need it for daily use.
Does the third party application remove the problem? Or does it only bury the symptoms - i.e. switch the fan off or delay it. I'm worried that there might be a bigger issue which is forcing the fan to come in.
I'm still within the 14 days, so I could return it for a full refund, if they don't want to give me a replacement.

John Lewis have the i5 variant for £700, which includes their 3 year warranty. Lenovo offer a 3 year warranty for an additional £50 but are far more likely to try and wriggle out of honouring it, should something go wrong. So basically, an extra £50 spent at John Lewis will give you greater peace of mind by way of superior after sales care plus you can go and pick it up today. My local store told me they have plenty in stock.
I'm 80% committed to getting this and if so, would definitely go the John Lewis route.......... johnlewis.com/len…825
Don't bother with the i7 as that's £950 at JL

The un-upgradable RAM has killed it for me. Every laptop I've had with only 8GB has chugged with the amount of Chrome tabs I tend to have open.
The same applies to the Lenovo that I'm typing this message on.

What do you mean by 'good luck'?..... do you doubt the integrity of their 3 year warranty?
As for posting it as a separate deal, no need to as I've linked to it on this thread so anyone reading the comments will see it, plus most folk tend to vote based simply on price and don't necessarily take after sales care, seller, location of stock etc into consideration..... in which case the JL deal is not as good as this one.
