Hi folks, couple of questions, advice much appreciated:
Given this is wifi, would you be able to 'facebook live'? Is it like a dashcam, constantly looping and recording over previous data? If so, how long would a 32gb card record for?
Thanks in advance folks, really tempted.

22 Aug 17#26
I purchased the Aldi action cam they had for about £30 or so, about 12 - 18 months ago and it was absolutely dire. Research before you buy it people, does NOT compare remotely to a GoPro. Even the footage the person posted at the top of this shows that its not even close to GoPro quality.
hcc27 to Leemhero69
22 Aug 17#27
It's about a tenth of the price of a GoPro3, the image quality is definitely not a tenth of the GoPro. Ergo, it's a DEAL FOR THE PRICE.
Leemhero69 to hcc27
22 Aug 17#29
I do understand your point I just want to make sure people know exactly what to expect, which I dont think its an unreasonable thing to share with people. People see "1080p action cam" and think "Oooo a GoPro for 13 quid". Certainly not the case with these cheap ones speaking from from personal experience.

Given it effectively looks like the SJ4000 clones doing the rounds a couple of years ago I wonder how it compares to one? Bearing in mind the SJ4000 wifi was around £60 at that time, I guess it's not implausible it could match the quality after this time

I made a comment earlier which seems to have been deleted (mentioned another retailer? dunno) - anyway, got practically the same camera (exact same specs and attachments) for only a quid or two more and I'm really impressed with the quality and the stabilisation. As for memory cards, it wouldn't read my 64gb - solution: Macrorit Disk Partition, which removes any partitions and can format a 64GB to FAT32

Seriously avoid this one guys....
I bought a similar action cam from TomTop a couple of months ago, both the camera and the customer service from TomTop were appalling. The camera arrived with a damaged screen (though still usable), but the build quality was rubbish (buttons hard to press, ill fitting battery door etc). The image quality was grainy and the camera was generally buggy and would crash / hang constantly. Maybe OK for a kid to play with etc, but certainly not a camera you'd want to trust with recording any serious footage.
I applied to TomTop for a refund as the camera was faulty, they wanted me to return the camera (at my expense) to a random address in France! I replied that I didn't feel I should have to be out of pocket to return the item as it was faulty, they simply ignored me from this point.
I'd paid via PayPal, so got them involved. Again TomTop ignored PayPal, so eventually PayPal ruled in my favour and refunded me.
In the end I paid a few quid more for a different action cam from Amazon (Apeman A60) and it is a thousand times better in every way than the lump of crap that I bought from TomTop.
jeczap
31 Aug 17#73
can you provide a link to the camera you purchased? (not that I want to buy it!)
hgthompson
31 Aug 17#74
Yes of course, this is the one, it's actually dropped in price since I bought it so for 30 quid is well worth the money in my opinion. No WiFi on this model though and a smaller screen (though Amazon stock those better models too). But the build quality is good, image quality is great, and of course it's easy to return items to Amazon if needed.
oops - sorry, I meant the original purchase. I'm just curious, as the near-exact to the camera in this post that I got seems perfectly fine. I know it's all to do with firmware, etc. I just wanted to see the link to the dodgy one you'd purchased to compare
