Sounds good value - but my nespresso machine (a little Krups one with an automatic 'clamp' struggles with all the compatible, plastic pods I've tried. I only get a 40% success rate...so by the time you've thrown a load away...the value isn't so great

I've been trying the cheap Morphy Richards pods that was posted a bit back. They are plastic but I haven't noticed them not working. If your machine does not like plastic pods, how would you know? Do they just not pierce the lid bit?
andytanguk to MRGRINGO
29 Aug 17 #13
They crack the plastic body of the pod, so you end up with a weaker cup of coffee and more water in the drip tray.

I'm a fan of the Nespresso pods, but equally happy with the Starbucks ones. I'm not a fan of the Home Bargain offerings, and although my wife likes the Lidl/Aldi offerings I'm not convinced.

Each to their own, but life is too short to make do with bad coffee! :fearful:

Hot from me - have been using these guys for over a year now. Have got through a few hundred capsules and only had literally one or two failed pods on my Krups machine.

The coffee (for me at least) is tastier than the official Nespresso pods. All down to personal preference, but I'd say you've nothing to lose at this price.

these work out at just under 15p for a third party capsule, may as well just buy the ones from Home Bargains at 10p each, theyre not as good as genuine ones but theyre not bad and probably just the same quality as these.
musefan2001 to paulj48
29 Aug 17 #8
2 nearest Home Bargains for me never stock these Pods or I'd be all over that! I like that you have a variety of flavours and strengths with this deal. I use Lidl Pods currently at 18p a pod & they are pretty tasty & so far have been very reliable in the Inissia machine I use but I would like a little mix of flavours.

we have 3 Home Bargains where I live (don't know if that's a good thing or not :unamused: ) and they have 3 different flavours with a decaf variety as well.

Obviously taste and preference is subjective but as a long time heavy nespresso user I will give my thoughts on these as it might help someone.

I have had Nespresso machines for about 7 years now, going through a lot of coffee in that time. I have tried every off brand capsule under the sun, and it has always been a source of frustration that people pipe up about x,y and z you can get in aldi or lidl and compare the cost vs nespresso capsules. Generally speaking, non nespresso capsules are completely incomparable to actual nespresso ones in terms of flavour, smoothness, etc. This is why generally speaking I just buy nespresso ones as the slight premium you pay is well worth it for what I consider to be a far superior product.

HOWEVER, of all the off brand capsules I have tried, the fine coffee club ones are the best. Not great, but far better than the cheap ones in aldi/lidl for example which lack flavour and leave a bitter aftertaste for the most part.

These are still a distance from Nespresso in terms of quality, but the best of the rest. There is, in my opinion, ONE exception, which are the blue (Rwandan) ones which, dare I say, are close to some nespresso capsules in terms of flavour.

Obviously this is all simply my opinion, but I have had a lot of these capsules over the years so it may assist someone! For the price you are paying here these a definitely a good buy.

Hi if you get the voucher for 200, when you enter the code at fine coffee it populates with a selection of 200 pods.. ignore this if you select your own you can actually end up with 220 pods (the voucher actually gives you around £49 credit) which with delivery is around 10p per pod.. we've used these pods with no problem and for us the taste is excellent..

30 Aug 17 #17
nearly 5p per capsule and I'm not sure how you quantify the extra cost on this deal to equate to better quality coffee, you do realise Home Bargains sell branded items and don't actually knock their Nespresso compatible capsules up in the back room.
Zoea to paulj48
30 Aug 17 #18
I paid £22.99+2.95 for 200 so that's 13p each. Someone above said these are closer to nespresso than home bargains. I find the home bargains one good just a little bitter sometimes.

plastic pods do not work well in the nespresso machine.
they are not always pierced properly, and can cause stress extra pressure on the machine, plus may damage the spikes which pierce the back of the pod.
aluminium ones are designed to work with the machine.
i have tried lot of plastic pods, and they sometimes get squashed in at the back, when pins dont puncture them properly
Cakeboy79
3 Sep 17 #20
I'd agree with whoever said the Nespresso capsules are best. The machines are designed to work with them and the failure rate of other capsules means the price is getting towards comparable anyway.
_BANNED to Cakeboy79
3 Sep 17 #32
Never had a 'failed' capsule - had Aldi, Lidl, stuff from Tesco, Starbucks, Morrisons + more

Perhaps the failure rate is down to a particular machine

My Inissia machine, which I got from the Nespresso Subscription deal last November, doesn't like plastic capsules very much. They either brew too watery or they just dribble coffee out very slowly. No problems with original Nespresso capsules and no issues with aluminium third party capsules like L'Or.

We have a few Inissia machines at work along with the 'Fine Coffee Club' capsules in this offer and I estimate that one in 5 capsule just fails to brew correctly. Yet when I stick my own Nespresso capsules into the machine they work perfectly.

Must be an issue with that particular machine. It was the cheapest Nespresso available though.
lumsdot to flibblesan
3 Sep 17 #41
dont know if there is a safety issue with plastic pods, i..e if they do not pierce, does the machine

its not your machine, it was designed for aluminium pods. plastic pods are hard to pierce, ive given up on them, not worth it

Just drink Azera if you're going to Cheap out, that or go the Filtered Coffee route. The Nespresso Coffee is actually really good, my work got a machine for us all to use and everyone has switched to that from whatever they were using before. The only problem is you really need a Milk frother that warms up the milk as you cannot put cold milk into it... it doesn't get hot enough for that.
Drooler
3 Sep 17 #22
Just don't. The only pods worth the money and containing quality coffee are the genuine Nespresso capsules.
I have had a Nespresso for about 5 years now, and tried the lot. There is nothing that comes close to the official coffee. Worth the extra few pence per cup.
dooper to Drooler
3 Sep 17 #27
I've tried 18 varieties of Genuine Nespreso capsule, & find that Aldi Ristretto capsules compare very favourably. Which? Best Buy. Only 18p a capsule.
angie7777777
3 Sep 17 #23
I agree with Drooler, best to pay a little more and get Nespresso, I've got loads of compatible ones floating around and none of them are anywhere near as good as the originals, having said that I only drink 1 cup a day and at 35p for Nespresso it really wouldn't be worth changing to an inferior brand! Still cheaper, more convenient and better quality than Costa etc for me.
I also don't feel the need for a frother, just warm a little milk in the microwave for 30 seconds!

I love all the 'pay a little more' or 'worth a few pence extra' comments.....

In my experience I've never found genuine Nespresso capsules for anything less than 30+pence.

Hence 'pay a little more' now appears to equate to a 100-200% increase, dependent upon final choice of compatible and price of genuine etc etc

In our house we have 4 or 5 cups a day, so I use compatible couples (with say 2% failure rate). At say 15p a capsule (compared to 30p for genuine) that saves approximately £268 a year!

I'd love to be someone who was able to regard such a chunk of cash as 'a little more'.....

Rant over!
Drooler
3 Sep 17 #26
It is a little more though (pence per pod) for quality. I'd rather pay 30p (or even 39p as some are now like the latest limited edition varieties) for a genuinely tasty and satisfying espresso than pay 15p for a lower quality cup.

Then again, im easily pleased. I like the designs on the pods and have all the cup ranges by Nespresso and even have previously purchased the Nespresso brand sugar sticks.
soldierboy001 to Drooler
3 Sep 17 #30
In that case why don't you buy a decent coffee machine and use beans. A proper one I mean not a cheap £100 or less variety but a good £300 region machine. Much cheaper in the long run and everyone can have the bean of their choice if you have one like mine, 2 bean compartments and a ready ground chute, and as someone else said warm your milk up in the micro. Mine works out at about 10p a cup as i use the medium setting for the grind and I'm not a coffee snob so don't go for expensive variety's.

3 Sep 17 #31
I am preaching to the choir here I think, but for anybody who likes Nespresso capsules only, if you haven't done so already, get a Nespresso subscription! There is zero catch.

I am paying £45 a month for 12 months for a Latissima touch, but all of that £45 goes onto my account as credit, and the credit doesn't expire until 2 years after the contract ends! Basically, if you only ever buy Nespresso capsules anyway, then get a subscription and sell the machine/have a spare/upgrade machine...
Drooler to leypb

Agreed. I've got 2 payments left so will be 45pm better off shortly. Might do it again though for another year and get another machine to sell on.

Heat. Good value even if not quite a good as the official Nespresso ones.

Couple of things that people might find helpful

You can actually change the selection of coffee if you want more of one type Instead of the wide range. You have to pay the difference if you go over the £24.90 voucher value.

It's free delivery on orders of 101 items or more, so you can order another pack of 10 pods, or do what I did and order a packet of the coffee machine descaler for 60p and get free delivery. Descaler will come in handy too!

I've gone through hundreds of pods from all different companies and never had a single failure..

I've ordered from this company before and thought they were good apart from a couple of exceptions. The decaf was dreadful, no taste at all. The caramel coffee I didn't think tasted too good either.

Hot chocolate was surprisingly great to make mochas with.

Might try these. Thanks op.

The best non Nespresso pods I've tried are the LOR branded ones, which are often on offer at Asda £2 for 10. The pods are aluminium and work just as well as the official ones in my Inissia machine, with good flavour.

Ive bought the Starbucks ones a few times before when they have been on offer, but I've found that I have a 50% success rate. The capsules seem to get crushed by the pressure very easily, and more water ends up in the drip tray than the cup.

The Taylor's pods (Also sold as Asda Extra Special) also have good flavour, and work reasonably well in my machine.
theshabster to chancooluk
5 Sep 17 #50
The Taylor's pods are the same as ASDA's Extra Special? Are you sure?
I bought two packs of Taylor's limited edition capsules a couple of weeks ago and one pack of ASDA's Extra Special just to see what they were like. I thought both pods looked very similar in terms of their colour, but I didn't realise they were actually the same. Not doubting you, just curious where you found this info.

On a side note, I'm a fan of the genuine Nespresso pods, but I also think that the L'Or and Starbucks brands are pretty good. Also convenient to pick up during the weekly shop. Taylor's Limited Edition Praline is also quite good.
