Just found this on my Halifax Credit Card. Generally not too many discounts at Aldi recently.
Possibly also available with other banks such as Santander.
Earn 10% Cashback on your next purchase at Aldi, maximum reward £30. Offer expires 03/09/2017 and is valid one time only. At Aldi.co.uk you can enjoy low priced, high quality products every day, including a range of Specialbuys on categories ranging from Baby & Toddler to DIY and Cycling. See the latest Specialbuys ataldi.co.uk.
Pay with your debit or credit card (unless the offer states you must pay by Direct Debit) to get the cashback.

The missus has got 10% on halifax but nothing on our santander account which we use regularly at aldi... pretty sure they target you when you don't shop at these places

We shop all the time at Aldi, no discount available. We never shop at Co-op and Waitrose and have a 10% discount at both. So this would make sense.

Yeah. I think in very simple terms when you sign up to these cashback schemes you give the bank permission to sell your transactional data (anonymously I'd assume) to the highest bidders.
So if a company can see you're shopping regularly at morrisons they'll try and pull you away to aldi/ waitrose/ Iceland. The bank gets a kickback and you get some cashback.
Just my assumption.

Is it just Halifax and Santander that do cashback like this?

5% on Aldi and 5% on Waitrose for me - and the Waitrose one reappears every month.
Coupled with the £8 off £40 vouchers that Waitrose send out if you don't use your myWaitrose card for a while, plus the myWaitrose 20% off, that brings Waitrose prices almost down to the Aldi level.

Not on mine. They always seem to give you offers on where you haven't shopped before (usually this is where you don't want to shop - for me anyway!) as previous people have stated.

I'll only buy something if I want it and it's an affordable price anyway...cashback offers are just an added bonus & not a reason to spend more money unnecessarily in my opinion. Each to their own though.
